I forget if it comes up in the book, but in the last moments with Beatrice.... the look on her face was utterly heartbreaking. Considering why it was that she actually saved him and the truth about that 'gospel' she was guarding. And, Garfiel pulled a Rem on why his actions change so drastically towards him.

A very good ending ngl. This anime has very, and I mean VERY rare wholesome moments

There's something that seems to have been overlooked here about Subaru's scent; I haven't read the manga/LN so I don't know if it was mentioned there and just skipped in the video, but a huge thing that should help explain the drastic changes in Garfiel's attitude is that Subaru's scent should be changing suddenly after his return point. So, he goes into the tomb after Emilia, and when he comes back out suddenly he reeks of the Witch... since he didn't before, that'd make anyone extremely suspicious about what happened

I only watch the anime, so I will say that I think it does a reasonable job getting most of this across. The fact that Subaru was happier, more focused, and also reeked more of the Witch was what I attributed Garfiel's changing attitudes to. I did not pick up on Otto's reasons for concern, so that didn't translate as well as the book apparently got it across, though. It's funny how Otto became friends with Subaru in far less time than it took Subaru to find out about it (given Subaru looping and Otto...not). I can't help but feel strongly for Otto; he's a nice kid, with a good heart, and braver than he gives himself credit for. And he's obviously not entirely unsuccessful as a merchant, but also a struggling one...and so very young for it. We don't see him act like he has any support network. The other merchants weren't mean to him, but they weren't close friends. He doesn't seem to have a family - parents established anywhere - he could fall back on or even refer back to. So he's pretty impressive with what he's achieved apparently on his own, building himself up. And he's a sweet kid. Gentle but not harmless. Kind but still determined enough to do what is needed to both survive and truly help others. Selfless without being self-destructive. There's a lot to admire about him.

Something about Roswaal makes me think he might know about Subaru's Return By Death. The way he said in the first conversation how he put all his faith in Subaru coming out on top, the way in each failed attempt during Arc 3 Roswaal hasn't even shown up, it's like he knew Subaru would restart and try again and again until he succeeded. That and the fact that he has some sort of tie to Echidna, another Witch (whose significance is even greater after episode 8).

Really like your analysis. I am binging your series after finishing the anime and am enjoying it a lot so far :D I was kinda confused after this episode why Garfield acted so differently each loop since having a thicker witch scent seemed a bit lacking as the sole argument. The explanation that Subarus behaviour especially emotionally changed each loop makes it much more plausibel.

I really do enjoy these extra explanation video since I probly will never read the light novel and much as I enjoy the series

Lot's of clues in the intro have been missed as well. Like near the end of the intro where there are many copies of Ryuzu standing around in one short scene.

This really made sense of what happened after the 2nd fight with the bowel cow. I didn’t notice that others were off put about how Subaru wasn’t worrying about Emilia as usual, it was because he was too focused on thinking countermeasures on dealing with the bowel cow.

In the WN, instead of using a glass shard (from the teacup?) to try and end his life, he instead bites off his tongue and swallows it to suffocate on it and his own blood but is of course saved by Beako. At that point, Elsa had already crippled him hard. It’s been awhile since I read it but from what I remember, she cut one of his arms in half......vertically. (Someone correct me if I’m wrong, it’s been awhile)
