Ok, I went down memory lane and it was WORTH it because this movie is legendary. We stan everything Morticia & Gomez and their undying love for one another. Also the costumes and the angst and the SCRIPT. Holy hell what a treat. Get into the fantasy, children - this is a perfect film.

Fun fact: It was originally going to be ambiguous as to whether or not the Uncle Fester in the movie was actually an imposter or not, but the actors were super against it and picked the then 10 year old Christina Ricci to speak on their behalf. She apparently gave an impassioned speech about how Uncle Fester shouldn't be an imposter and it should be made clear that he was a true Addams, so they changed the script to reveal him as the genuine article.

Honestly, they made the right call. Cheers to Ricci for preventing the movie from giving us a bad plotpoint similar to what the Simpsons did.

Gomez & Morticia are one of my favourite on screen couples, Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston have fantastic on screen chemistry and have a brilliant balance between the classic 'Adamness' and the more sophisticated, joyful interpretation that John Astin introduced when he portrayed Gomez.

I can't believe I've never noticed it before but whenever Raul Julia goes in to kiss Is Angelica Huston's hand, she is already extending just the pinky so he can start on that and work his way down the line. That is the kind of detail thrown in by 2 people who know exactly what this relationship is supposed to be.

That’s what I was thinking, the kids don’t quite understand the hardships that Fester had to deal with from being in a storm, and having to reconnect with his family after dealing with an abusive woman who treats Fester poorly after being rescued by her.

It could be that Fester was trying to reconnect with his family, because the voice inside him wants him to be set free from an abusive mother who never understands family. He was doing great with the kids, his stuff gives him clues to his past, and he perfected the Mamushka with Gomez. When he grabbed that Hurricane Book, that’s him telling himself “I found my voice, now to set myself free”, and he did; he killed that woman and got back his memory. What he did after reuniting with Gomez, he continues with this happy life from this point on. This is an incredible character arc.

One thing I've always been curious about; are the Addams Family indestructible or something? They're obviously strange, and supernatural in one form or another, but it's never blatantly stated how. The graveyard statues prove that they can be killed same as any other person; but what are the limits to it? Also, would anyone else buy that clock from the opening of the movie in a heartbeat? I refuse to believe it's just me.

They just... are. The Addams Family... is. No explanation for their strange powers will ever be satisfactory, so we won't ever get one. If you've been watching _Wednesday_ , you'll know that even among monsters, Addamses stick out like a sore thumb, for that matter.

Full agreement. Fester finds the Lament Configuration on the grave of a forgotten ancestor in a graveyard the family was visiting as part of a cross-country clan meeting, and brings it home. Pugsley figures out how to activate it, and the Family are taken to the Cenobite's Hell. It turns out that almost a third of the people down there either are Addams, or idolize the Family, and the ancestor is revealed to be the first Addams, from far back in history. From there, it's revealed that Satan himself ( or the Barker version of the creature ) has a crush on Morticia, and Gomez and Satan must duel for Morticia's soul. Gomez accepts the powers of a Cenobite, and the battle commences.

You should check out the Addams family sitcom from the 60s. Morticia would ask, "do you mind if I smoke?" And then proceed to cross her arms and smoke would eminate from her body. Priceless.

So it is unsaid how old fester was when he went missing, but Gomez did say that "after that night" and "when you left" meaning when they were teenagers Fester left for 25 years. So Fester being the older sibling who was about 16-17 got amnesia and spent 25 years doing that old hag's bidding thinking that she was his real mother. She legit kidnapped a kid and gaslighted him for more than half of his life.

I'm trying to pin down the scene that Wednesday and Pugsley are reenacting. Sounds like Hamlet, but there are lines from different parts added together. "How all occasions do inform against me, And spur my dull revenge!" is from the What is a Man speech that Hamlet gives, and the "A hit, a very palpable hit!" line is from the fight between Hamlet and Laertes at the very end of the play. I wonder are they taking the parts they liked from Hamlet and just stitching them together to have an epic fight scene with great lines?

The sequel I’d say is about 99% as good if not 100% as good. Some of the scenes are even better than any scene in this. Plus you get Fester the whole time.

Raul Julia makes this film, supported brilliantly by Ricci, Houston and Lloyd. The idea of the Addams Family in and of itself is a fun idea sure but it’s improved a billion percent by that cast and that 1991 feel. A childhood classic so it’s elevated above and beyond it’s already celebrated status.

Ya know looking back if Tully had just asked for some cash Gomez probably would have just given it to him, but then Fester wouldn't have come back. I guess the moral of the story here is that underhanded schemes and fraudulent practices always lead to happy endings, also always believe a person with a suspiciously fake accent and no references.

Raul Julia would of made the perfect Don Diego Dele Vega/ Zorro for a new series or movie if he was still alive. His performance as Gomez is a diamond and the rest of the cast still great today. These movies still hold up, great music video, theme, and design. Still gets big 👍 from me in 2021. I can say for myself I want a man like Gomez too.
