Here's a follow up on my Diamond Dove that I've been taming. She's doing very well around human. Very relaxed as you can see, not being alert about her surrounding or anything. I picked her up back in Sept 10th and it is now 12/29/16. She was quite young and very skittish. She also went through some molting stages and her eye ceres are now bright orange. I can now say she's mature and might be ready for a mate, so I can start producing some very tame youngsters for my local people that are interested as there aren't too many Diamond Dove breeders around.
Please check out my first video how I tamed her when I first got her for only couple of days: • Taming My Diamond Dove

Doves of ANY kind are the EASIEST birds to tame... EVEN wild caught adults are EASY to tame , ive been keeping all types of birds and doves since i was a child but my favorites are the ring necks :) ive trapped wild caught adult ring neck doves and trained them to fly to my hand in about 4 weeks time, so to anyone interested in taming a dove, first off let me just say that in my experiance.... 100% of the time.... a bird thats hungry, and a bird thats unable to fly, makes for a very easy bird to train nomatter how old the bird is so use these 2 things to your advantage :) now if you want it to bond with you its VERY important to only have ONE dove, second thing is CLIP ITS WINGS and that way it will stay were you perch it instead of flying around all stressed out, then you want to buy or make a small desktop type perch, what i do is lay a small towel on my bed and place the perch on it, i place the dove on the perch and sit beside him ignoring him, after you clip the dove and it realizes it cant fly it will be very comfortable siting on a perch without tryin to jump off, i turn off all the lights in my room and aim a spotlight on the towel below the perch and i sprinkle alittle seed around on the towel and use a small bowl for water, by keeping the room dark this takes away all the birds stress and options of looking for a place to escape so it just calmly sits on the perch, all the bird can see is the towel with food and water, occasionally as im watching tv in bed i use my finger and remove the bird from the perch slowly and put him on the towel beside me and ignore him, and because the room is pretty much dark the bird just walks around abit on the lit up area on the towel pecking at the seed and water, and then i slowly scoop him wit my finger again and put him back up on the perch and ignore him again, i do this about 4 hours a day each night while watching tv or playing video games in bed and after only a few days of this the dove will start to jump down to the towel himself and eat and drink and then jump back up to the perch, my training perch is 5 inches tall, at this point then you nolonger put seed on the towel you only offer it in yer hand and it wont take long for the bird to start eating out of your hand and then you start holding your hand up off the ground and make the dove jump from the perch to yer hand for the food, once they start jumping to yer hand is wen i start to pet them abit and get them use to being touched for a few seconds, and then perch them and ignore them again, if you do this for a few weeks the bird gets pretty comfortable around you and will readily jump to your hand for food and once the bird molts its feathers will grow in and from there its simple to train him to fly across the room to your finger :) then its up to you to just continue to show the bird love and attention and it will become very close with you , it will enjoy to be pet, and it will fly to you every time you snap your fingers :) not sure if i explained all that the rite way but i think you can get the idea :) ive been brainwashing birds my whole life and this technique has rewarded me with many birds i considered to be a best freind :) it even works with finches and birds of prey

Help! I just purchased a 4 month old diamond dove and I am wanting to make this happen! I watched the previous video and then this one and am just amazed. How do you get them to start perching on your finger? Is it easier to take them out of the cage to work on bonding with them or leave them in the cage to teach how to perch. Please help! Cannot find any good videos on HOW to train your bird to do this.

You'll need to tame the bird outside of it's cage. Have it perch on your finger everyday for almost a month or two til it's use to you and start trusting you. It takes time, so be patient. :) Once it gets use to sitting on your finger, it'll start flying to your finger when you reach out because that's all it ever does. You'll be rewarded. :)

@@bluetheirn But how do I make them trust me enough to be that close? I got my two first 6month diamond doves a few days ago and I have no idea what to do. If you can make a step by step list (if your willing too) that'd be really appreaciated for my adhd.

It's easier to do when they're only 3 months old. It's harder to tame if they're a year or more older. But keep spending time with them. A few hours in the day and they'll slowly gain your trust.

Spend at least 2-3 hours with him perching on my finger a day. This will make him more comfortable with you by the day.
