A true Battlefield 4 Icon, the engineer class meta, the AK5...Well technically the AK5C but we are close enough. The AK5 was a real treat to run on the channel, especially after using it in some of my favorite games. Its rarity only adds to the mystique.

The AK5, also known as the Automatkarbin 5, is a Swedish assault rifle that was designed to replace the aging AK4 (a licensed variant of the Heckler & Koch G3) as the standard issue rifle for the Swedish Armed Forces. Here is some information about the AK5:
History: The AK5 was developed by the Swedish defense company Bofors (now Saab Bofors Dynamics) in the 1980s. It was adopted by the Swedish military in 1986 and has been in service since then.
Design: The AK5 is based on the FNC (Fabrique Nationale Carabine) design, which is a Belgian-made rifle. It is chambered for the 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge. The rifle is known for its reliability and durability.
Variants: The AK5 has gone through various modifications and improvements over the years, resulting in several different variants. These include the AK5, AK5B, AK5C, and the Ak5D.
Features: The AK5 features a gas-operated, rotating bolt design. It has a folding stock and is equipped with iron sights, but it can also accept various optical sights and accessories. The rifle has a detachable box magazine, typically with a capacity of 30 rounds.
Use: The AK5 is the standard issue rifle for the Swedish Armed Forces and has seen deployment in various peacekeeping missions and international operations.
Export: While primarily used by the Swedish military, the AK5 has been offered for export to other countries.
Civilians: In Sweden, civilian versions of the AK5 are available for civilian ownership, but they are subject to strict gun control regulations.
Ammunition: The AK5 fires the 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge, which is a standard intermediate rifle cartridge used by many NATO member countries.
Accessories: The rifle can be fitted with various accessories, including optics, laser aiming devices, and different handguards.
Reliability: The AK5 is known for its reliability and has a good reputation in terms of functioning in adverse conditions.

As an active duty Swede this makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Should be worth mentioning that the C looks quite a bit different than this version, shorter barrel, updated polymer mags, different modular handguard etc. And it was great seeing you rock the Swedish camo. Any questions ya'll want answered, just fire away.

It's so weird watching you Americans do the left hand reload on the AK5. The standard Swedish drill is a right hand reload where you grab the mag and hit the mag release with your right hand thumb. In snowy conditions and especially when lying prone in the snow, the mag can get stuck and won't fall out just by pushing the mag release and it might need some extra force to remove, that's why it's drilled that way. Also when prone the left hand reload doesn't really work since you'd be lying on top of your left side mag pouch. Mags are typically stored on the front right side of the kit. Anyways, great video! Really brings me back!

When the AK5 came out in the 80’s as a test my friend used it as a conscript up in Kiruna. The were not allowed to clean the weapon except the pipe during 7,5 months. The gun worked flawlessly all the time. One interesting feature is that when the gun is dirty or if it’s cold outside you can adjust it to level 2 ( it increases the gas pressure) and it will still work excellent. I been in the military many years and I think the AK5 is truly a great weapon!

Only the A and B versions had the different (2) settings for the gas return flow. So when the gun supposedly either was really dirty or during harsh winter conditions you set the gas flow to setting 2. The C version has it permanently set at 2. I've used the AK-5 for many, many years. The only time i ever had an actual gun jam was when my blank firing adapter was malfunctioning. Somehow it went "sealed" so it didn't release the gas and debris from the rounds causing it to malfunction. I remember that the weapons technician was all excited when he examined it, he had never seen something like that happen before and barely noticed me...he just dumped a new one to me and dove straight back into examining the adapter.

Some trivia about the AK5. From my own experience. The black AK5C you talked about, I've only seen once in my career. And it was during my basic training that the neighbouring company was equipped with the AK5CF(the F stand for "försök/trail"). This was back in 2003/2004. The regular AK5(Sometimes named Adam) used during my basic training got alot of malfunction, most certainly because of the heavy use by the conscript system. When I did my service abroad, we were one of the first units to be equipped with the AK5C. That aswell had much malfunction, mainly due to bad plastic mags. But I also remembered it as the gas selection was also wrongly adjusted when they assembled it. But take that with a grain of salt. I got equipped with the "granattillsats(M203)" and the front pin was unfortunate a little brittle so during heavy use, it broke. The muzzle flash on the AK5C is waaay better than on the AK5. When I saw the muzzle flash in the dark on the AK5C, I was shocked how much lower signature it had compared to AK5. When I did my NCO training, the quirks had been solved and I really like the weapon.

The Swedish AK5C has the aimpoint further forward (basically where the reciver ends) because the way it's mounted on that rifle the sight is in the way of the ejection. When they developed the AK5C they had the sight further back like on this rifle and found that the brass sometimes got thrown back into the ejection port, and the brass was impacting the aimpoint and causing damage to the sight.

Criteria of an Assault Rifle (even though some people might claim that there's no such thing as an "assault rifle"): 1. The rifle must have a select fire option (ie. safe -> semi auto -> full auto or burst). 2. Must fire an intermediate cartridge (5.56x45, 5.45x39, 7.62x39 .300 Blackout etc.) 3. Must have detachable magazine. 4. Must have an effective range of at least 300 meters.

Criteria according to whom? Answer that and you'll see why "some people might claim that there's no such thing as an "assault rifle." The science is not settled, comrade. If you're going by the US Army definition, you left out "4. Must have an effective range of at least 300 meters."

The good dr. will be attacked by utter pedantry now, but he does speak truth. There's minor variations on the criteria, but what he listed is pretty universal. The term "assault rifle" comes from translating Sturmgewehr from German into English because the Sturmgewehr (StG) 44 is usually considered to be the rifle which brought this service rifle concept to the world.

I remember when I was a conscript at S3, (3rd signal regiment) in the Swe army. We were issued the heavy ass AK4 (which is a swedish made H&K G3), despite we would get in and out of vehicles alot, make camoflaged outposts etc. The length of the AK4 was a pain in the ass. You'd catch branches when out on ski patrols, or get caught in the camoflage nets over the tents, as you couldn't have the barrel pointing toward the ground when shoudering it, as the barrel would drag in the snow and possibly form an ice plug. We were super jealous of all the other units that were issued the foldable AK5😂

This remind me when i was in the army in the 90's. Back then we only had the ak5a. When we just started our PEK, the shooting training, we should do 3 shoots from 200m at a 1/3 figure. I still remember the look on our Fänrik when he took a coin from his pocket, the 5 SEK coin, and covered all my 3 shots🤣🤣🤣👍. From that day he called me sniper and I got his respect. I met so many great guys during my time in the army. So a rifle without a scope is not always bad. If you cant shoot without a scope dont try with a scope, you will see the cross like a fly and you will only do bad shooting. Like everything else in the world, you need to learn the 1st step before you go to the 2nd. Good luck and have fun in the practise.

Its' a nice gun, the AK5. I worked as a Summer worker at Saab Bofors Dynamics in Sweden 6 six summers in a row, in the late 1990s and early 2000s. I helped renovate these weapons for the Swedish army and I watched them being test fired at the factory. In 2007 I was back in the back in the factory and then they were modified with plastic magazines and their barrels were shortened, to make them easier to use for combat vehicle crews.

Around the 90s, these AK5s were manufactured in Eskilstuna, I had the fun job of shooting a lot of them , all the weapons were testfired and loggd. I also had the privilege of using an 890C which was the system that lost to the FNC variant f Ak5. It was a smaller variant of an AK47 solid Swedish green, it could be hidden under the armpit, and had 35 rounds magazine, typically Swedish to make things better ;-). We are also trying to modify this weapon into a bullpup, freaking fantastic, but a bit tricky as you had to use wire for firing... But fun in automatic fire. We also had lots of other fun at FFV, which we call Saab today... I would say that the Swedes are very good at developing innovative products to solve problems. What stops us are laws and politicians, and our high morals above all living things.

The swedish army is replacing the ak5c to a sako ar in both 5.56 and 7.62. Also psg90 is getting replaced with a sako in 8.6 lapua magnum. It's a new contract together with Finland with sako, so they are also getting new service weapons. The switch is supposed the be done by 2026 and starts next year. The jamming issue you are having is something i've never experienced during my service. Gun ran flawless.

We use the word carbie instead of rifle when we talk about assult rifles. A carbine is a short rifle use by the cavalery, like the Mauser m/94. We produced an automatic rifle during WW2, the AG42. AG stands for Automat Gevär (automatic rifle). It was semi automatic and full length compared to a carbin. Questions, just ask

I served and the Ak5 was my service rifle, the one I got was new from the factory, and I had nothing but problems with it. It was sent to the armourer 3 times and still there was a lot of failures. mainly the bolt being stuck in battery after firing, and also a lot of double feeds. The bolt getting stuck was kind of sketchy, because it was stuck well enough it that was impossible to unstick it with just hand power. usually the only way to do it was putting the butt end against the ground and stomp the bolt handle with your boot.. No idea why it did that, and why the armourer failed to fix it

Hi! I am a 17 year old guy (about to turn 18 soon) and i may or may not get recruited to do (reintroduced) military service in sweden. My question is, if there would be any tips you would be Willing to give, what advice would it be? If you respond, thank you, it means a whole lot to me.

@@attilaabonyi8879 Get a pair of good boots, and make sure to go to a store that knows about fitting a boot, do not buy them online. And do not be cheap it will save you from a lot of pain and discomfort. Also make sure to walk a lot in them a few months before you are entering the service. That is a tip I wish someone would have given me when I was starting out. Another thing, learn to be humble and not to complain, military services is mostly about getting used to things that are uncomfortable, the sooner you accept that you will be uncomfortable and that it is ok the better it will be.
