Official HD Video for "Games People Play" by The Alan Parsons Project
`Games People Play' was the second single from the Alan Parsons Project's 5th studio album The Turn Of A Friendly Card and was released in 1980. The song peaked at number 16 in the US charts and has remained one of the APP's most popular singles ever since. Lenny Zakatek was chosen to sing the upbeat song about the dangers of gambling and can be seen in the video alongside APP stalwarts Stuart Elliott on drums, David Paton and Ian Bairnson on guitars. APP founder and songwriter Eric Woolfson (on keyboard) and producer Alan Parsons (at the mixing desk) also appear in the video. The title came from a psychology book of the same name, which Eric's wife Hazel was reading at the time.

SpooferJahk. Interesting how they chose different themes for each album, isn't it? As to what you were saying; by far the video that hits me hardest is "Mr.Time", The singer Jacques snd the musicians blended so good. Ironically a rich piece of work; that did not make the charts, due to the material matter! It is a piece of work that will make you say WOW, and wipe your eyes!!! The music and video will move you, unless you're without feelings.

The diversity of APP's songs always amazed me, and the production / engineering, OMG. Kind of reminds me of Steely Dan in regards to perfection being ultimate and use of session / studio talent that may have gone unheard had it not been for APP's inviting them to be on his brilliant albums. So sad when AP passed. He wasn't that old. We tend to think, at the time when they are around, nothing like that is supposed to happen, they just can't leave us like that. But putting myself in his place I would be happy to know his music has found new, younger fans too. He left an astounding legacy and that's what living the dream is all about, right?

If you like this song and are not familiar with the Alan Parson's Project, do yourself a huge favor and take a deep dive into their legacy! They remain my favorite artists from a time when true masters of the art abounded. Eric Woolfson and Alan Parsons together made music like Bach and Beethoven would have if they'd lived in the 1970's. Pure genius, and pure ecstasy to listen to!

They're one of my favourites; being a toddler when this came out had everything to do with it. Eye In The Sky and You Lie Down With Dogs (I liked how the sound is different when they sing "you're gonna get something but you do what you please" like it's done with a cheaper mic or something. Kid me loved the effects. So basically it was the synthesizers, the notes they use that have that cool late 70s early 89s flair, and vocoder use like in The Voice. (On the inside of the jacket of Tales of Mystery and Imagination, it states that the vocoder can only be found at Abbey Road!)

Agree. Unfortunately they never got the recognition in the UK that they got in other countries. In fact it wasn't until Sirius and Eye in the Sky that the British public started to sit up and take notice - largely because Sirius was just an awesome piece for introducing spectacular events and was widely used. Some science documentaries in the late 70's did use some of the material from I'Robot but generally the band was ignored by the mainstream music industry and radio which was more interested in promoting punk. I went to a special audiovisual screening in a cinema on the release of Pyramid in 1978 and was hooked. Thankfully, the rest of the world took them seriously and they went on to great commercial success in Europe and South America. My personal favourite albums were Turn of a Friendly Card and Pyramid.

Lenny’s great no doubt. If I had to pick my own favorite, it would be too tough to call, though. My list would include Lenny (doubtlessly), Colin Blunstone (The Zombies), and Terry Sylvester (The Hollies). Add Gary Brooker (Procul Harum) into the mix, and it quickly becomes a veritable free-for-all, which only speaks volumes about Alan’s knack for selecting high-caliber talent for The Project...

well let's not glorify this period either, over-dubbing, multi-track playback, reverb, auto-mixing, distortion, metronomic beats, auto-leveling, auto-gain, auto equalizing, just to name a few were all very popular, used on this track, and certainly are artificial enhancements to the creation of music.

That’s what happens when art is corporatized and quickly becomes no longer art, but a money making machine that follows a psycho-methodology designed to make people stupid and buy their cookie cutter garbage. It also happened to nearly every pro sport you care to mention. And it’s why anyone over 40 knows contemporary pop is all manufactured shite.

In 1977, Zakatek became a studio vocalist for The Alan Parsons Project, singing on their albums over a ten year period. He was featured on twenty-four songs on eight Alan Parsons Project albums, including the hits "I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You", "Games People Play", "You Don't Believe" and "Damned If I Do".

There will never be songwriting like this again. There needs to be a resurgence of musical integrity with artists today that can write music with substance and meaning unlike the angst ridden repetitive nonsense out there. The Alan Parsons Project has marked an epoch in music history. What a legacy. Enjoy!
