► The American Frontier State, Alaska has been the home to many unexplained disappearances throughout its land, but one area, in particular, has been the subject of more recent questioning.
This is known as the Alaska Triangle. The triangle connects the state’s largest city of Anchorage in the south, to Juneau in the southeast and to Barrow, a small town on the state’s north coast. Since 1988, it’s estimated that approximately 16,000 people have gone missing in this vast untouched wilderness. The area consists of incredibly large sprawling forests, icy mountain peaks, and desolate tundra. It also contains the Denali National Park, the Gates of the Arctic National Park, the Chugach National Forest, and the Glacier Bay National Park.
This first and perhaps the most well-known disappearance took place on October the 16th 1972 when a Cessna 310 with the tail number N1812H disappeared somewhere between Anchorage and Juneau. The plane was owned by the Pan Alaska airways and was piloted by 38-year-old Don Jonz who was a chief pilot and had a lot of experience under his belt; over 17,000 hours of flight time to be exact and he was very highly regarded. However, because of the status of the passengers, they became the primary focus of the reporting. Don’s passengers included three individuals, Alaska Congressman Nick Begich, his aide Russell Brown and Louisiana Congressman Hale Boggs who was also the United States House of Representatives Majority leader at the time. Their destination was Juneau in which they were to attend a rally for Nick, but unfortunately, the trio would never arrive and the aircraft would never be located.

Anyone who goes hiking in that wilderness and doesn’t tell anyone where they are going, is either not experienced enough or has too big of an ego. The animals don’t care how experienced you are.

Neither do the other things. Take the word from someone who's lived in the "triangle" of Vermont...and honestly, u should see the northern kingdom of VT, Groton state forest(where I have a small land parcel) is much more "active" as far as the forest swallowing folks up- tho for some reason I've never heard abt any of them? Maybe our ppl r better at covering it up? Thing is, I've had the woods shift. I've gone to where the trees move n then become silent...no animal sounds, and u can't see the sun but it isn't dark(like twilight always). Just keep walking if this happens and pray u walk out of it. NEVER EAT ANYTHING IN THAT PLACE! or u may b gone permanently. They used to say Fearie but I haven't seen that exactly. I just know the trees r conscious and whisper to each other. Sometimes I think they do it on purpose, like once when I wanted to show someone something...we walked for hrs on a familiar trail n I just couldn't make it there n didn't know how to explain it to my company. It finally let us out when I gave up n turned back😞 It's sad when it takes children tho, and I don't understand the bad things but they must b there. Look it up tho- trees speak through a fungus in the ground. They know u are there.

A lot of people don't realize how big Alaska actually is, and how few people are available to search when someone goes missing. For people who go missing from the Lower '48, or tourists from elsewhere, a lot of them just didn't wear the right clothing. Summers can kill. They wander off into the woods, thinking Alaska is like places with a town every hour or two, and... nope. When their down-filled nylon gets wet, they've got two layers of nylon. We wear wool up there.. Bears eat people; catch a moose on a bad day and you're done. We carry fire-arms for a lot of reasons. People do wander off to commit suicide sometimes as well.

I'm from Alaska. This video got my attention. There was some mispronunciation of place names, however I applaud and commend your taking the initiative and producing what was, in all, a very well-researched video (with spectacular footage!) because these were real people with real lives whose loved ones all too often see them become just some more forgotten statistics. That happens too easily and too often, and frankly not enough effort is made to keep their cases/memories alive. People like you are a wonderful exception to that. You're doing more good than you even realize. Thank you!

I had planned on going to Mt Denali, hiking around Anchorage and Seward by myself as I had done previously. I was upset that my plans had changed but now believe that maybe it was for the better. At every port you can chose to leave the trip and either explore the towns you're stopped at ( lots of food and shopping) or there are Alaskan activities you can look at and book while youre still on the ship, prearrival. There was a 6 hour trip on an old school train, going through Alaska and Canada. You see amazing sights! Or you can stay on the ship and enjoy the view from luxury. It's a "risk" well worth taking

Regarding the missing Congressman's plane, my mother-in-law's father, Alan Wheeler, was in a plane with 2 other companions that went down in that exact same storm in October 1972, that the Congressman's plane went missing in. In the search for the Congressman's plane, they instead found Alan's plane and all three men inside, passed away. Just perked up when I heard this story in your video and thought that was an interesting side note to point out. He left behind a wife and 6 children.

There is a Podcast called missing in Alaska and it is pretty good. There seems to be some evidence that the plane may have had a bomb on it. Peggy Begich the wife of Nick Begich married Jerry Paisley (I think his name is if I remember correctly) after Nick died who was a member of the bananno crime family. The podcast goes into pretty good detail about it all. It isn't positive that's what happened but it definitely is a possibility I think. Definitely worth a listen on long drives or whatever

I've got many loggers in my family, they live in the mountains in Shasta, I was born Ft Lewis ft of Mt Rainier, my mom told me YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE ON THAT MOUNTAIN BY YOURSELF. I used to hike with my dog all the time. She said people vanish without a trace, YOU have got exactly what they're looking for. This was in 1990. But she didnt say WHAT, WHO was looking for. She just said NOT SAFE. Not ever. Not even with dog. Do not be on that mountain alone. Well fast forward a couple decades, and we've got David Paulides MISSING 411, and all sorts of breakaway civilizations stories. This missing persons stuff is REALLY SPOOKY! No matter how you look at it, apart from the first story with the politicians, the "missing persons" pieces just don't fit with our understanding of our world as we know it. The PNW area, the whole west coast actually has some weird energy, i KNOW that. Even off the southern coast, there's weird stuff going on underwater. I think President Clinton was part of mass abduction Coronado Island in 94. Weird stuff.

Regarding the first story- At the time of his disappearance, Hale Boggs was demanding the resignation of the infamous and highly controversial head of the FBI, J. Edgar Hoover. The charge? Unauthorized wiretapping of US Congressmen- BOTH Representatives AND Senators. This was no small thing, as it is at the scope, scale and significance of the similar crimes of the notorious events of Watergate, which took place the following year after his disappearance. From the New York Times, in 1971, in the months prior to the disappearance: WASHINGTON, April 5- The House Democratic leader, Hale Boggs of Louisiana, called today for the resignation of J. Edgar Hoover, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. “I ask that Mr. Mitchell, the Attorney General of the United States, have the courage to ask for the resignation of this man,” Mr. Boggs told the House. He accused Mr. Hoover and the bureau of tapping the telephones of members of Congress and of stationing agents on campuses to spy on students and faculty members. He said that these were ‘'the tactics of the Soviet Union and Hitler's Gestapo.” Mr. Boggs did not elaborate on his wiretapping charges in his speech. An aide said later that the Democratic leader would stand by his statement. A spokesman for the bureau promptly denied that the F.B.I. tapped the telephones of members of Congress. Mr. Boggs is the second member of Congress to accuse the bureau publicly of tapping Congressional telephones. At a political dinner March 19 in Denver, Senator Joseph M. Montoya, Democrat of New Mexico, said: "There is wiretapping on Capitol Hill of the telephones of US Senators and Congressmen.” Senator Montoya was not available today for further comment. A spokesman in his office said that the Senator had said that it was “common talk and common belief” in the Senate cloakrooms that the telephones of "a good many Senators” had been tapped. Several Echo Charge Several members of Congress said privately today that they felt that their telephones had been tapped but that they could not prove it. Mr. Boggs is the first member of the Democratic Congressional leadership to demand the resignation of the 76‐year‐old director of the bureau. However, other prominent Democrats, including two Presidential contenders, Senator George S. McGovern of South Dakota and Senator Edmund S. Muskie of Maine, also recently asked that Mr. Hoover resign. The House had just convened when Mr. Boggs moved to the microphone today and, speaking without notes, leveled his charges against Mr. Hoover. Speaker Carl Albert said later that Mr. Boggs had not discussed the matter with him before making the speech. The Speaker declined comment on whether he, too, felt that Mr. Hoover should step down. However, the F.B.I. just a year ago was granted authority by Congress to make campus investigations. The FBI was given the money to hire additional agents and to investigate arson and disorders. Documents stolen in early March from the Bureau's Media, Pa. office included a Hoover memorandum of Nov. 4 ordering “an increase in both quality and quantity of intelligence information on black student unions and similar groups which are targets for influence and control by violence‐prone Black Panther party and other extremists.” ------- There are more controversial claims and considerations such as his opposition to the findings of the Warren Commission concerning the JFK assassination, as well as the fact that a certain young Bill Clinton(yes, THAT one) was his driver the day he disappeared- Clinton was supposed to be in Texas that day, instead.... Et Cetera, Ad Nauseam, Ad Absurdum, Ad Infininitum... However, many of those controversial considerations are dismissed to the realms of conspiracy so I would simply invite anyone to research these things and decide for themselves. www.nytimes.com/1971/04/06/archives/boggs-demands-that-hoover-quit-accuses-fbi-of-tapping-congressmens.html

@@shamansean7593 Thank you- It is conspicuously absent in both current pop cultural conspiratorial considerations of 70's corruption as well as historical pondering of Watergate,et al. It's like Roswell and JFK's assasination- some events get WAY too much attention while the others get something approaching zero... Few are aware of the seriousness of the Hoover situation and it's obvious connections to Watergate. There is virtually no doubt that the core criminal elements overlapped.

As someone who has born and lived on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska and where my parents, siblings and their families live and where my husband and family visit every year I can attest to the fact that many people disappear into the wilderness of Alaska. A LOT of them end up having accidents and tragically die due to a fatal fall or accident and/or due to exposure. The way clouds and crazy at storms that are created by Mt. Denali (or really any of the mtns in Alaska as they are tall, imposing and starkly beautiful.). With wildlife there are close to 38K+ Alaskan Grizzly Bears, 5K Polar Bears (closer to Barrow obv), 30K Brown Bears, 100K Black bears, 3.5K Kodiak Brown Bear, 11K+ Arctic Wolves, and 100K+ of some of the meanest Moose you will EVER encounter in Canada or even in the Rockies in the USA. These numbers are ONLY a modest estimate and the numbers could be hundreds if not thousands more of every of these predators. Most important lesson is ALWAYS respect wildlife especially if they’re apex predators! It also does seem like a LOT of these people go missing from early summer to late fall when bears are most active, have babies that they’re extremely protective of and will take a casual swipe at you if you happen to be hiking or fishing near a body of water where salmon are swimming upstream. The bears become more and more desperate to eat enough calories as they come closer to their annual hibernation. It takes a LOT of calories for a apex predator to survive the harsh winters in Alaska. Here is an article written recently by an online magazine: www.journeyingtheglobe.com/most-dangerous-animals-in-alaska/ Many other people WANT to disappear into the wilderness of Alaska whether it’s for running from the world to wanting to conquer said world. Many yearn or choose the life of solitude. To “commune with nature”. This happens far more often then people truly realize in Alaska. Sadly Alaska is THE largest state in the USA and there are places in the interior of Alaska that no human has ever touched or will ever touch as it’s so remote, so dense in trees, swamps, and BILLIONS of mosquitoes the size of a B-52 Bomber and extremely thick underbrush that even a light aircraft, water plane or helicopter could land safely on. Alaska is a breathtakingly beautiful, awe inspiring but also extremely stark and inhospitable landscape. The one lesson I could teach any visitor to this jaw dropping place is always RESPECT nature. Always and I mean ALWAYS travel with a friend and especially if you’re planning a trip into the interior make sure people know EXACTLY where you’re going, have a satellite phone and a LOT of bear spray. Or just be super smart and NOT wander off into the wilds of Alaska unprepared for EVERY possibility. Thanks for sharing and one of my BFF’s is a journalist out of Anchorage if you ever need any research she’s someone I would recommend speaking to. Much love and positive vibes from a homesick Alaskan living in the wilds of Montana. ✨💖✨

I lived in Alaska for my whole life, and there is so much weird shit that's happened that I could talk about. Killings that never go investigated or ever talked about again. Go ahead and Google some, there's never any closure to them. The weird feeling of the forests, the things you see in the trees. Disappearances, everything odd you can think of. It was frustrating to live there and never know what was going on, because the police and government officials wouldn't tell us anything.

In Alaska, one small plane crashes EVERY MONTH. There are wicked downdrafts, mountains, all manner of clouds, and other hazards in flying in that massive country. Plane crashes just happen. My friend lost her husband in such a crash, and there was never a trace. This is more often the case than not. So this crash is sadly not unusual.

I remember a few TV shows that looked into deaths of people up north around Alaska & higher north where the victims had their heads ripped off. When I searched for it now there seems to be no information like as if it never existed. I remember that these deaths had been happening since the 1700's where settlers had made log cabins by a river only to disappear then later be found with their head missing & the case being left as a cold case. The indigenous also know about these things out in the forest that are like giants that hunt people, perhaps the reason why so many people go missing in Alaska is because of the paranormal activity in the area & also these beings that we haven't seen before but only heard about in legends.

The flight path of the first plane lost was partly coastal, meaning it could have been lost at sea. Even experienced explorers underestimate nature or are just ambushed by it. A sudden storm can do it and with just hiking gear you cant fight nature. Out there there are so few towns and habitations that there is no practical help or refuge within reach. Worst is with flaky people, Chris McCandless and the like, utterly ill prepared and light headed about risk and knowing what they are doing.
@christineparis5607

Chris McCandless always infuriates me. He completely lived off everyone he met. People always gave him food, money, a place to sleep, equipment for camping, while he enthusiastically insisted to everyone who would listen that he had learned to "live off the land". He actually believed it, while the reality was that he was sponging off every person he came in contact with. THEY worked, and GAVE him money and clothes, etc. to "live simply" so of course he died in Alaska, he hadn't the slightest idea how to hunt, fish, clean game, preserve food, build a shelter.... he was only good at swindling nice people into giving him stuff. He was a complete asshole who believed his own bullshit and it killed him. I wish everyone had told him to stop pretending to be self sufficient, it might have saved his life. He was spoiled and entitled. He was an insult to actual mountain folk....

@@dianne11ca I hear you, but I've met a lot of young people who have read about him and think he is cool. There is nothing wrong at all with hitting the road, living rough and accepting help when and if you need it, but you can do that without grifting and injuring others. McCandless was a total narcissist. His parents scrimped and saved to put him through school, and when he decided to quit, his parents were frantic with worry, he didn't even bother to let them know he was alive. He blew off his friends, family, people that befriended him on the road, he just used every single person he came in contact with. You can travel the open road without using everyone you come into contact with. You can respect people that love you enough to not want them to live in fear worrying about you. He just cared about one person, himself. I don't think he "paid the ultimate price" for his egotistical behavior, his parents and sibling paid it. They were destroyed. Of course I'm speaking Ill of the dead, I want people to know that his example is one of warning, of what you DON'T do. The only reason he died is because someone else had taken care of him his entire life while he pretended he was a free spirit. He bought his own hype, there was no reason at all for him to sit there and starve to death, many people told him how dangerous it was in winter, that the river would flood and it would freeze by a certain time, and he just assumed someone would come and save him, just like someone had saved his ass his entire life. He died of a refusal to listen or learn anything. It was a completely avoidable death. I don't want anyone else to idealize him and die too.

People of all ages with no experience under their belts hike around the country all the time, yet we don't usually hear about any disappearances. My point is.. maybe, there's something else involved other than just the lack of experience...

When you have so many search parties with dogs, high-tech equipment, people & an incredible amount of time & you still find NOTHING, absolutely nothing, it's pretty shady & sinister. Someone or something doesn't want these people found.

Lots of content - I like these stories, though sad it has happened to people. I like to hike throughout Maine, so I can relate to people hiking. Precautions must be taken when going deep into the forests. Anyway, nice channel and good narration. Subscribed

Thank you Top Mysteries, this was great 🤓!! I would love to see you post a video about missing aircraft btw, that would be awesome 👏🏼!! But only truly odd and unexplained stories. Not the ones that are so infamous that we’ve already heard them 1000 times 😖 Yawn city!! Lastly, the story about Earl and his dog “cruiser“ at the end was absolutely mind-boggling to me 🤷🏻‍♀️ I mean, they were all very odd, frustrating and confusing but that one struck me as really weird 😲 Where do all these folks go for (bleeps) sake??? Where 🤷🏻‍♀️🤔💭

Yeah for the most part I steer clear of incidents that have a ton of exposure since they don't really need any more from me. I like to scour these older newspapers for 'oddness'

Well that Begitch thing was a big deal. A plane full of politicians in a very heavy political climate. I've been watching Nick Begitch for years, when he brought it up on a show, i looked it up. WOW!

I wonder if some people disappear falling into a crevasse?? It's so weird that dogs never seem to pick up a scent. These are so sad.

R Needham-in all the missing cases including the 411 cases, the dogs were unable to find a trail. Very strange indeed.

I'm absolutely certain that some 'Missing 411' cases are going to turn out to be false positives on the balance of probability, so yes, of course, some may have fallen into an incredibly awkward/hard to discover area, though the lack of a scent is very odd

There is a lot we do not know. But for many of these cases my experience hiking alone in remote areas around the world leads me to think they just got eaten and/or fell into a hole somewhere. I know - no evidence for animal predation, extensive searching - but nevertheless, there are lots of opportunities to vanish without a trace when you are back there in these vast areas. I have spent a goodly amount of time in Barrow, Denali, Chugach, Kenai, and elsewhere. Vanishing into thin air seems unremarkable. But i love your videos - keep it up!
