For sure. If you shop around I've seen BDC2s as low as 109$ and bdc3s as low as 130$ for 12s. For the average person 2 bdc3 12s in a good box on 2-3k is a budget banger. The bdc4s and 15s are solid choices for ppl that want more.

I've ran Audiopipe subs for quite a while and actually had a pair of the Eye Candy (grey) 12's and they were awesome. I eventually stepped up to BDC3 12's and they were cool until the coils failed by turning into slinkys... Upgraded to the BDC4 12's and they were cool until they suffered the same fate... of slinky coils... Switched to an American Bass HD-18 and that thing was a beast until I sold it and got my 1st pair of Deaf Bonce SA272 15's then shortly after that snagged a pair or 3012r's and they have been the absolute best subs I've ever owned and take everything I've thrown at them. Audiopipe makes great subs but they really need to consider using better voice coils for longer lasting performance. I won't take a chance on them again until they do. For now, it's Deaf Bonce for the win!

@@scottbe1 I mines on a APDLO-20001D each at 1ohm (Gain Matched with a DD1) on excellent electrical. The problem with their subs is that once the coils get hot the glue melts and makes them slinky. My 3012r's are in the same trunk on 2 5k's at 1ohm and they don't smell, get hot or anything. Trust me I wanted to believe it was something with my setup because I was a diehard Audiopipe fan (still a fan just not diehard) but their subs just can't take prolonged abuse like these Deaf Bonce 3012r's.

Aluminum cones are making a big comeback, I'd actually prefer if a majority of sub companies started producing these. They don't blow apart under pressure like how they destroy themselves in Carlos Rodriguez' van Delilah at 179 db and the aluminum acts as an extra heat sink to wick excess heat off the voice coil.

Two things from those TS specs really jumps out. The linear one way Xmax is only 6mm. That's tiny. Most 12's have 15mm-20mm one way. Very bizarre. Maybe they meant 12mm one way/24mm pk to pk? That makes more sense if it's Xmech is really 40mm pk to pk. The other thing is the spl/sensitivity of 96dB @1w/1m. There's no way. Maybe they meant 86? Most 18" subs can't hit 96dB @1w.

Aluminum cone drivers usually have fairly high sensitivity. This also comes from the fact it has a smaller motor. Low wattage subs usually have a higher sensitivity than high watt subs. Usually the smaller the driver the higher the sensitivity. Less moving mass can translate to higher sensitivity.

Several subs have a small X max but a large X mechanical. With those you have to remember that typically, those are going to be sloppy and not accurate. But this is also pretty common with cheap subs being sloppy at higher higher excursion. You can also see when Parker took the sub apart, the coil windings were not very wide versus subs that have a much higher X max will have a whole lot wider winding on the coil. As far as the sensitivity, pretty much all of the old subs had a sensitivity in the 90’s. Then the Kicker Solo came out and it had a low 80’s SPL rating. Everyone knew you had to push more power to them to get the same SPL as higher sensitivity subs. It seems that within the last 20 years or so, fewer and fewer people seem to be aware of this as the average age of those who are into car audio get younger and younger.

Looks like the cones are starting to crack I bet they have a revision due to the cones and these supposed to be aluminum cones ?
@ParkerTheBasshead
@ParkerTheBasshead 7 ай бұрын
It’s not the cone, it’s just the coating. But yeah kinda annoying
@Chuck_Sanders
@Chuck_Sanders 7 ай бұрын
Correct, it's the anodized finish and the clear on the aluminum. Even older Eclipse subs would do this with the clear over the aluminum. I don't remember the old original eye candy subs doing this, back in the day. Cool review either way.

@@joshholden8561 I've got around 30 or so of Thilo's different subwoofers he designed. A handful did it with the coating on the aluminum. It's just the coating on the anodizing over the aluminum on these.

Just curious, why is a sub failing/starting to fail at rated {R.M.S} power in 3-5 mins considered ok? In my mind its not a 800 RMS sub.
@mattadams7922
@mattadams7922 7 ай бұрын
Because it's free air and being run at a very abusive frequency. The 800RMS is in a box. The box creates an air cushion which acts as a suspension of sorts. Unless the sub specifies free air installation it is rated for use in a box that it recommends.
@timhartle3090
@timhartle3090 7 ай бұрын
@@mattadams7922 I hear you and i understand, For argument sake, I've never seen a RMS rating, listing any exceptions. I've also never seen a enclosure REQUIRMENT stated. Recomendation only. Or any frequency considered (damaging) it either plays it or it doesnt. I KNOW I KNOW...Just saying
