Short science-fiction film starring BILLY BOYD and WILLIAM HOPE.
After applying an ingenious method to create artificial intelligence on his home computer, a reclusive programmer is contacted one rainy evening by a suspicious dealer looking to buy the technology from him. However, as the call progresses it becomes clear that neither man is who or what they claim to be.

Awesome work Mark. You and all those that worked on this film. Excellent short. Maybe you contact DUST films and see what kind of response you get from them on this. It should have many many more views. Maybe they help you market it in some way, idk, just a thought.

For me, the most important element of video story telling is not the acting, the production values, the camera work, the special effects or any of that. It's the story. And this was a good one!

Great work! I watch a lot of horror and sci-fi short films and even the good ones can leave you a little frustrated as there is little back fill or so little narrative you are left with loads of unanswered questions. This thankfully isn't one of those. A well written and acted short film about AI simulated worlds and consciousness. Bravo.

THE BEST short sf video I have seen on the Tube...and I've seen many. Do you remember, when you were a kid, speculating if all the stars and planets were actually atoms making up some mundane object in a larger universe. I thought about thou sleepover conversations after watching this.

Nice one. Fun fact: We already have programs that write themselves, based on an evolution-type premise, and nobody actually understands how they work. (In fact, a guy named Adrian Thompson evolved an electronic circuit as early as 1993, which is more efficient than any human design). I assume that must have been a big inspirationl

Truly imaginative sci-fi psycho-thriller. This story has been told many times, but here is done with originality and in a classy, minimalistic way. So much more satisfying that all those blockbuster explosions and the gratuitous sex... Thematically speaking, it reminds me of a short-story by J.L.Borges, "The Circular Ruins" ... and of course, this idea is at the heart of "Do Androids Dream..." and even "the Matrix". And because of its sobriety and intelligence, it reminds me, stylistically, of "Gattaca"

I could see it unfolding quite nicely, until God the scientist started to laugh and it dawned on me that our protagonist was the experiment, however, it made no sense to then shut the program down at that point. Peer review, even if only insofar as a wee, quiet chat with the AI, would have been the usual next step, not termination. That vital aspect aside, lol, superb work from Billy and the disembodied William, who's voice oddly reminded me of Charlie from _Charlie's Angels._ Kudos to everyone involved. This is one for my collection and thank you for posting!

There's a way out through infinite recursion. All he has to do is create his own virtual Universe which operates on a much faster time scale, then in that Universe repeat the same. The curve asymptotically approaches infinity, meaning that it's turtles all the way down and whole multiverses will spawn, live, and die between the ticks of a clock in the original Universe. Who cares if they shut it down in their time when he can live out an effectively infinite number of Universes before they do?

Ahh, but you only have the clock speed of the original simulation. Essentially quantum time. This quantum time can't be faster in a simulation than in the original, and should get worse each level at least by the amount you are speeding up the simulation in real time.
