I graduated high school in 1970...I was terribly overweight, so that summer of '70 I ate only salads (not a great idea) and ran around our 40 acres every day of that summer...by the time I started junior college that fall, I'd lost 50 lbs., went from a size 42 jeans to a 28 jeans...all my high school friends didn't even recognize me! I was reinvented, lost my shyness, and had all the energy in the world! Those were the days!

I was 17 in 1970. I was a junior in HS. I look back fondly on those times. I also drew a high draft lottery number and wasn't drafted. In late 1970 my parents came home in a new 1971 Pinto. I loved that car as it was so different. It got about 30 mpg!

If it did I'd go back in a second. Several great memories from Fall of 1970 -- the music especially, but the life my family and I lived, which was heady and adventurous. VERY lucky indeed that my dad was a successful developer in the 60s and in 1970, because it afforded us a lifestyle and opportunities that few ever get to enjoy or even experience. So very grateful.

@@jstravelers4094 Quite true, we didn't. In my case, I wasn't old enough. And I felt pretty fortunate, considering what I saw every night on the evening news from over there, and the treatment our own soldiers and sailors got from our own people when they rotated home - if they made it home alive at all. As I said, my vantage point couldn't have been more removed from the shit-show that was American politics - and even at the age of 14 at this time, I just could not wrap my head around the lunacy of our politics or our foreign policy. By 1970 I'd seen _four_ political assassinations take place, as a _kid_ -- and by the time I got to HS it was like meh, whatever, and by the time I entered adulthood Vietnam had played out and our entire country was _burned_ out. 1970 was ok from the safety of my little cocoon in L.A., but for a lot of folks they'd already been through hell on earth and I got to live with the consequence of that going into adulthood, and it wasn't pretty.

I was born Oct 1970. Great times to be in. The world SUCKS now. Full of disappointment and disgust. The Elite have really changed our lives and shame on us for allowing it for we outnumber the 1%. I have the Sugarloaf LP along with some vintage highfi equipment. Would be great if i had ALL of the things from my youth. Thank you for the trip down memory lane.

October 1970, the greatest Hallowe'en of my life! I brought home a quarter of a pillowcase of candy! Stretched it out, made it last, and saved the biggest and best chocolate bar for last (it was a jumbo something, but not a 3 Musketeers, but it was GOOD!) and ate it at the stroke of midnight while watching the ball drop, January 1, 1971. Great times!

If we were around when these commercials were first shown, probably most of us would have been annoyed by having to watch them before our favorite show could resume............now, here we are watching these same commercials with a lot of nostalgia and not complaining and wishing for the old days ....well, that's me too !!

I was 6, so I was aloof to most of these films and current events. Friday night on ABC: The Brady Bunch, The Nanny and the Professor and The Partridge Family was my kid heaven. I saw Patton at a Drive-In on a double bill with With Six You Get Eggroll. I was obsessed with Winnie the Pooh. My Halloween was probably something from Ben Cooper.

I was 5 and remember that Friday Night block of sitcoms on ABC that fall with Nanny and the Professor sandwiched between The Brady Bunch and The Partridge Family. That was must-see TV! I remember having crushes on Prudence Everett from Nanny (Kim Richards), Joy of The Bugaloos (Caroline Ellis), Marlo Thomas from That Girl, and all 3 Bradley sisters from Petticoat Junction 😆

I was 12 years old in 1970. I have seen a lot of change. While serving in the USAF, I was severely injured in the Munich Oktoberfest terrorist bombing on September 26,1980. Our American were held hostage in Tehran. I have definitely seen a lot of change in my life!

@@brewcrew5854 Good question. When the lottery numbers were drawn mine came up #66. Then the next question was how far will they draft to--125, 200? My number was low enough that I knew I would would be drafted--my local draft board (draft boards were powerful in those days) made sure of that. The way I heard about it was that I got a phone call from my mother (I wasn't living at home) who sounded like she was crying her eyes out as she told me I'd gotten my draft notice--my "Greetings" from Uncle Sam. And that's how the draft letter started--Greetings! Ironic isn't it?

Great stuff, Fred. I had started kindergarten by this time … and was obsessed with astronauts and space after my father had gotten me up out of bed the previous year to watch Neil Armstrong’s fateful steps. Even at this age I was aware of the fast, changing times after the late 60s turned everything upside down - seems like trends and fads came and went like lightning during these years. All of these clips really demonstrate that well. No one had a clue where all of this was heading - nor cared! The 15 cent era is when I started buying comics, too. Up here in Columbia, Frank McGuire had the Gamecocks rolling on the hardwood. The Carpenters were common sounds in our household during 1970-73. My folks had the “Close to You” album and the next two that followed. When I hear them it takes me back to these times when my parents were just entering their 30s. Ok … you got my eyes wet.

But what indelible contributions Duane made to "Layla" (the high slide and the suggestion to speed up the main riff, make the song rockier). "Tell the Truth" (slide masterpiece) "Have You Ever Loved A Woman" (more brilliant slide, and co-lead)... "Anyday" {Hear Derek Trucks doing it great today}....

1970 was a great year. I’m going to Disneyland with my parents. I think I hitched for the first time even though I was 10 years old and music was all over the radio great great a.m. hits. It was a great time to be a kid no real knowledge of the turmoil surrounding me….just being a kid.

I was 10 in 1970. My first and last time ever leaving the country. Went to Niagara Falls and visited the Canadian side. Never been back. Funny, I don't remember too much about 1970. I do believe I remember going to see Airport at a theater down the shore. I do remember, sort of, one other thing that happened that year, but it's nothing I could ever talk about here. Green Eyed Lady...what an awesome song! Brooks Robinson owned the Reds in the 70 WS. Always loved the look of the AMX Javelin. I listen to The Pink Floyd and Emerson, Lake and Palmer every day. The love of my life was born October 1970. She has all of her original parts, no implants or cosmetic surgeries of any kind. She was born a woman and still is, and is a total beauty queen! I'm a couple of years younger myself. I kid around about her being from this time period, but she's the best! She is my "green eyed lady". They just don't make them like that any more!

I had my first date with my future wife in June of 1970. Our first date we went to a Steppenwolf concert. If we live to June 24 of this year we will have been married 51 years. Time truly flies by if you're having fun. This video brings it all back like it was yesterday. By the way, she's still operating on the original equipment too. I must say doesn't look that bad. I believe in the automobile world she would be called a "Classic".

@@FredFlix With so many print images ie: the mag covers, circular ads to enjoy this vid really hit home , I pause on each print image and cover and read every single word(same as when you did the TV guide listings and I read every show description) and enjoy the feelings they bring back, I even look to decipher the upside down address labels on the mag covers. It's just something I enjoy and the fact that it doubles the pleasure as with all the pauses to read every word in the vid my viewing pleasure is extended, I got enjoy this vid for 35 minutes instead 16 minutes. Others have noted this one was just perfect, kind of like a band on tour and tonight's show they were totally on fire and gave a most memorable performance, such was this vid. Thanks Fred !

I love reading these memories. It's truly amazing what people recollect from the past. For me; as for many, the incredible music is what made it all so very great, but there was so much more to enjoy as well. America was really the place to be; especially if you were doing OK financially, but I guess that could be said for anywhere....

I was 10 in 1970 too and remember the "hip" combo 5th grade/6th grade class I was in that year. The teacher played Procol Harem's White Shade of Pale and Cream's The Sunshine of Your Love in the classroom (both songs from 1967 - they must have been his favorites).

I have no memory of my grandpa Ward, but my mom always spoke very highly of him! She loved him and always told me, your grandpa Ward was a good man, I wish you could have known him! What a coincidence. My dad got vaxxed which immediately started a blood clot in the injected arm that has now become cancerous. 2 days ago he gave me the EXACT Playboy on your video he’s saved through the yesrs. Thumbing through it brought back memories of life with him when I was young.

@@FredFlixFred “the Star ⭐️ “ answered me back. I’m blushing. Yes, my Dad’s arm vaxxed arm blew up like King Charles’ fingers. When he finally got his MRI it showed 4th stage cancer all in the rib cage 🩻 of the ballooned arm. After extensive chemotherapy, he was declared “in remission” after the 1-3 years to live diagnosis. Thanks for asking and keep up the great time machine you’ve built !!!!

@@FredFlixIt is true. From what I remember, the blood clot started quickly after his 2nd or 3rd vaxx. My dad went to the doctor for 1-2 years and doctors had no explanation for the enlarged arm. It wasn’t until they decided to do biopsy/internal imagery that they saw a large cancerous growth. My dad is still doing daily treatments for 3+ years to reduce the arm swelling.

There were no teen heart throb magazines (or the others) in our house either. But I sure did make a beeline for the magazine section of the grocery store every time I went with my mother. Sheer bliss standing there reading about Bobby Sherman, David Cassidy, David Soul, and Jack Wild in Tiger Beat and its like.

I remember so much of this. In some ways the world is so much better off, but in other, important ways things are far worse. My Dad had a 1970 AMC Ambassador, it was a really nice car (and the first car I had an accident in!), we shopped at Winn-Dixie and once in a while Belks. (Both still around, although WD is no longer here in North Carolina). So long ago… my parents, grandparents, and I still had both my brothers. In some ways the future is beyond the wildest dreams I had back then, but in other ways it’s a huge disappointment… what happened to Luna City and flying cars? Thanks for this Fred, you are doing some great work with these videos.

The America we knew. The "good old days". But just remember, everything that happened in one decade was just a step towards what would happen the next decade and the next until we've gotten to where we are now. I've personally watched the culture in America slowly deteriorate gradually for almost 70 years. It's like the envelope was being pushed just a little more and more with each passing decade.
