The Andy Griffith Show is an American sitcom first televised on CBS between October 3, 1960, and April 1, 1968. Andy Griffith portrays the widowed sheriff of the fictional small community of Mayberry, North Carolina. His life is complicated by an inept, but well-meaning deputy, Barney Fife (Don Knotts), a spinster aunt and housekeeper, Aunt Bee (Frances Bavier), and a precocious young son, Opie (Ron Howard). Local ne'er-do-wells, bumbling pals, and temperamental girlfriends further complicate his life. Andy Griffith stated in a Today Show interview, with respect to the time period of the show: "Well, though we never said it, and though it was shot in the '60s, it had a feeling of the '30s. It was when we were doing it, of a time gone by

According to a recent Google search, this famous opening scene with a very young Ron Howard was explained as follows: “Howard struggled to throw the rock far enough to make it into the water. After several attempts, the show’s assistant director, Bruce Bilson, stepped in. He planted a prop man behind a bush. When Howard threw the rock, Bilson signaled the prop man to toss a rock into the water. Although at first glance, the scene looks seamless, if you look carefully you’ll notice a delay in the sequence from when Howard throws the rock and when it actually hits the water.”
@MrKalman13
@MrKalman13 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, Ron Howard talks about this in his new book as above. The park where the lake was had strict rules about rocks being thrown and they had to clean the rock before it was thrown in the water.

The splash isn't in the direction Opie seemed to throw the rock. Plus, it looks like a huge splash compared to a rock Opie could have thrown. Fun opening scene anyway

It’s fun to watch him as a kid, considering he’s one of my favorite directors of all time. I never saw the show until reruns. I was born in 1966, but Gentle Ben, with brother Clint, was one of my favorite shows at the time. There’s even a tape recording of my mother asking me what I’m watching and I said Gentle Ben. Simpler times.

Im 29 now and this song had been stuck in my head for most my entire life. And the thing is that I never knew where the whistling came from. I just somehow memorized how the song went. The only reason I knew it was from this show was my older coworker asking me if I watch the show. I looked it up and found this. I have never seen this show, ever. Im assuming it must have been playing a lot on the TV of my parent's or grandparent's while I was growing up. It's such a catchy tune but I swear it was much longer than this. There must be a longer version or maybe there's an outro that's extended?
@hxhdfjifzirstc894

Yeah this is just a short clip of it. It cuts off right before the whistling changes to a different melody. I'm sure you can find it just by watching other clips or watching an episode of the show.

The same thing happened to me, someone would use the whistle in a tv show or KZfaq video and it would drive me nuts because I had no idea where it was from until I found a video entitled songs you've herd but don't know the title of. That's how I learned what it was called so my sanity was somewhat restored but I didn't know it was from an old tv show until I found a video called 60s and 70s tv memories.

Opie wasn't strong enough to throw the rock so someone hidden in the bushes did. That's why the lag between the throw and the splash and no rock is seen leaving Opie's hand.

@@mooncricket2311 This shows the power of suggestion that magicians use all the time. If you are not expecting deception, your brain makes what you see as correct. We expected the splash to be from Opie's "stone," so we assume it could be in that place and we just couldn't see his throw.

I'm reading The Boys, by Bryce Dallas Howard. (Ron Howard daughter) An autobiography of how the Howard family got into show business. I did not realize Ron & Clint's father was an actor. But his son's overshadowed him. So I'm going back & forth on certain shows that little Ronny Howard starred in. This boy was making tv shows at 4 yrs old and he couldn't even read!! His father was VERY SMART at teaching him. It's a good read (but a very thick book). Got it from the library.
