Neymar may still have several years left at the top level of football, but already the Brazilian forward has shaken up the transfer market more than once during his career. From starting a bidding war while still a teenager at Santos to triggering a 222 million euro release clause that helped propel a wave of transfer market inflation. Although he’s still just 28 years old, no player has cost more in cumulative transfer fees than he has.
And yet… Neymar could be about to revolutionise the transfer market once again and do so thanks to Andy Webster, a defender from Dundee, Scotland, whose cumulative transfer fees barely scratched half a million.

We can't go down this route as the FIFA Ruling would dictate us paying a figure around the €170m upfront, which is simply impossible. First Neymar has to reject the contract extension PSG are offering, & ask to leave handing in a transfer request. Then we can make a move to negotiate. I propose we swap Griezmann & Dembélé for Neymar & then take Icardi on loan. That way we have completed two priority objectives for free, in signing our priority signing a LF/LW & a ST that will succeed Suárez. Who is without question better than Lautaro Martinez, less expensive as he will only cost a loan fee & Inter will be more willing to negotiate selling be a player Conte doesn't want. Why sign him if Inter don't want him? In addition to the footballing & financial reasons I mentioned previously. Signing him on loan mitigates any risk to a loan fee, which is deal in our best interests as we wouldn't have to lose players to make a deal happen & if it doesn't pan out, for any reason, mostly likely nothing to do with his quality on the field but his wife/agent, we don't have to exercise the €65m purchase option. Also Icardi has scored goals wherever he's been & he's familiar with our style of play, being former La Masia, at 27 he can also be regarded as a long term successor to Suárez who is 33. So we wouldn't have to include any players, as is suggested in any deal for Lautaro Martinez. This leaves us with the majority of our funds to sign Laporte. Recall Coutinho from loan, then from player sales, i.e. Rakitic & Vidal we must re-sign Thiago from Bayern as he is our 2nd most priority signing. As like Neymar & Coutinho, Thiago relieves the dependency & over reliance solely on Messi to create, carry the ball & offer dynamism.

@@TTGHAST It's seems you missed the entire point of my comment. So I will reiterate that our priority must be to cost effectively sign players that unequivocally improve our starting XI. Hence, why I suggested a swap deal for Neymar involving Griezmann & Dembélé so we wouldn't have to spend any money re-signing him Then instead of meeting Lautaro's 111m buyout clause with cash and players, we should sign Icardi on loan instead as he is better, would cost us only a loan fee, at 27 can also be viewed as a long term successor to Suárez at 33 & offers less risk. After spending nothing on Neymar & loaning Icardi for his loan fee. The majority of our funds remains almost untouched to sign other priority signings. In addition to this their are also players sales to take into account, such as Rakitic, Vidal, Braithwaite, Umtiti & Firpo. Which would be enough to re-sign Thiago valued at 49m & Laporte valued at 54m as per transfermarkt. If you need me to elaborate more on my comment, then I am happy to oblige, whether you're respectful about it or not.

Trust me, as a Barca fan, bringing Ney would be a horrible move. He’s a great player and all but he’s 28 and injury prone as well. Plus he brings a lot of problems and unneeded drama to add to all the shit that’s already happening with the board. And he would at least 500k a week to a wage bill that’s already the highest in the world. Bringing Neymar in would bring us to our knees financially

kSupreme X not even sure where to begin lol. There’s a great Wikipedia article on his ownership if you’re interested. Essentially he wanted to see how Lithuanian players would do in other leagues. He tried to acquire 3 different Scottish clubs, was rebuffed 3 times, finally bought Hearts, promised to eradicate their debt, increased their debt 4x over, alienated the core of the team, inexplicably fired multiple managers, hired a sex offender manager, took a bunch of players from his Lithuanian club and stuffed them into Hearts, eventually drove the club into administration, and went bankrupt himself. He did bring a success and silverware to hearts, but it was a wild, wild, ride.

@Stats 05 Bingo. He is far from defendable in many instances, but with Messi there, there is only one way of doing things. Even if it has to be detrimental to the club in the medium to long term. Give Messi and his cultist fans whatever he wants. Unfortunately for any Barca fans who aren't so short sighted, the chickens will come to roost soon. I dislike Real equally, but Ronaldo leaving was the best thing for them in the medium to long term given their squad they're building and it's potential. They are somewhat for the here, but mostly definitely will be here for the foreseeable future.

If Barca uses this ruling, we might see it be used a lot more. Could this cause a deflation in the transfer market? Ali Raza Jafree PSG would certainly be screwed over because they’d be getting much less money than they could theoretically sell him for, even if the Court of Arbitration decides to award more than FIFA decides. Also yes it might be a known rule but large, top clubs in general generally don’t use these types of rules because it defeats the spirit of fairplay, which is precisely why Barcelona caused such an uproar when it used one of those rules to get Braithwaite from Leganes, knowing that it would basically have doomed Leganes to relegation.

In 2016 Ibrahimovic's contract with PSG ended, he then moved to Manchester United. PSG had a weaker season as they lost their top scorer. Desesperated PSG bought Neymar paying the clause. Barcelona, now without Neymar and with all this money used it and some more to buy Dembelé, Coutinho and Griezmann. Liverpool with all this money bought Alisson and Van Djik, that season they would win the Champions.

What's more mind-boggling to me is that a person could hate their club (who were doing very well) so much that they could afford to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds to cancel their contract and go somewhere else. Do they need to do a video on the Hearts owner too?

Barcelona will struggle to complete this deal in 2020, they currently have some big financial difficulties. They are looking to generate income from Coutinho, Rakitic, and Vidal which might be difficult due to their age and high wages.

Funny that in Championship Manager 4 the contract of a player becomes "unprotected" after sometime and any club can buy it out. I always figured it was random, now I know they inserted that rule in the game. Kuddos to the developers.

Given the Covid-19 situation is causing player valuations to fall (see TransferMarket.com) and may see the overall football economy shrink, do you think this could result in more players utilising this approach? As you said, it looked more attractive in Websters case due to the lower fees so this may encourage others to look into this if the general price of players falls over the coming transfer windows due to Covid-19

Can you make a video about transferring on a “bosman”. Is that football’s form of free agency in American sports after a player plays out a contract?
@Yali_
@Yali_ 4 жыл бұрын
Pretty much. Before Bosman, clubs could, and often would, hold onto a player's registration card (i.e the rights to the player) even after the contract had expired. This meant that players were effectively held at randsom. If a player wished to move as a "free agent", the previous club could still demand a transfer fee (set at whatever figure they want), or they could block the move entirely and force the player to sign a new contract with them instead. Now, after the Bosman ruling, players can enter discussions and make agreements with any club when they have six months or less remaining on their contract (these are known as "pre-contracts"). They still have to wait until their current contract has expired before moving, but they now have that ability to make negotiations. Players over the age of 24 can change clubs for free once their contract has expired. Compensation still needs to be paid for players aged 24 or under, but this is a fixed amount based on several factors, and arrangements can be made on how/when the payment is made. The other significant outcome of the Bosman ruling was the ban on EU foreign player limits. Most leagues at the time had a cap on the number of foreign players a club could have at one time. This is illegal under EU law, where freedom of movement for EU citizens is a right. Now, any player with an EU passport can sign for any club within the EU; although some leagues still maintain a limit on the number of non-EU players a club can sign.

In Football Manager 2008 (FM 08) Andy Webster is a WORLD CLASS Central Defender. He starts the game on loan at Glasgow Rangers for a year (from Wigan) so you can buy him for around 1.8million pounds, but you won't get him until your second season (summer of 2008 - the game begins in the summer of 2007). Even so, he's well worth buying. His defensive stats are very good, but his Consistency and Important Matches stats (the two most important attributes in the game hands down - I said put your hands down) are both 18. THAT'S INSANE. I have wasted (ruined, in fact) my life on that game.

Of course there have been very few cases of this, the agents have nothing to gain from such an arrangement. They leech their living by skimming a percentage of the inflated transfer fees and signing on bonuses.

So i have a question about this, given i know very little about football and mostly watch this channel given its excellent content and well presented interesting topics. The sports i watch (for example, Formula 1), its generally accepted if a player no longer wishes to play for the team - its a bad idea to keep them. They will be demotivated, and the market is large enough to find suitable replacements if required. Basically all contracts do is guarantee a compensation price to the team should the contract be ended by a 3rd party, they otherwise are not really worth the paper they are written on once the season finishes (its usually accepted this doesnt apply mid season). I think the best example is Force India gave up their start driver in 2009, because he was Italian and Ferrari offered him a mid season swap. They knew there was little point saying no to the driver, so simply organised a payday for themselves out of it. So my question is, why do football teams want to hold on to players that do not want to be there? - surely its worth a lot more to them to move on a player whilst in contract, rather than when out of contract.
@Wanqeezy
@Wanqeezy 2 жыл бұрын
It really depends on weather the player is an asset on and off the field, like Messi does well on the field but he also generates Barca a lot of money so they are reluctant to let him leave even though he requested transfer months ago.

If they do it and the fee is indeed as ludicrously low as 160m£, this would probably have a huge impact on other clubs willingness to do huge transfers with such a threat looming. However if it gets PSG to negotiate and offload Neymar at a reasonable price it's a win win situation

The rule has its own pros and cons. It's great for lower league players who want to move up and are tied in a contract. But for players like Neymar who are highly valued it may be a trick in the book to heat up the transfer saga.
