The afterword to the book it's based on said it's inspired by the metaphysics of playing the same video game over and over: the people in the game think you're some amazing warrior-deity but in reality you've just been through it so many times that you know where everything is and what's going to happen next.

What keeps amusing me is that she became that legendary 'Angel of Verdun' mainly because on her first day in battle she got an alpha mimic's blood mixed with hers. Thanks to that she could relive that day again and again and know every move of mimics on the battlefield. But for that she would have been killed like thousands other rookies.

Crazy as Tom is in real life, where he took this character from beginning to end was pretty amazing. And I became a fan of Emily Blunt's work after this.
