The Anglo Normans in County Longford

Archaeologist Dr. Kieran O'Conor, of NUI Galway, takes us through the history of the Anglo-Normans in County Longford, and visits the impressive motte-and-bailey castle at Granard, known as 'the Moat of Granard'.

Thank you Dr. O'Conor. I recently learned my fathers clan originated in County Longford. I am tickled to learn more about Longford historically and to see a panorama view of some of the county's terrain. My imagination is being sparked learning about our origins like never before. Florida, USA

The Anglo Norman (English) were everywhere. At least half the population in Ireland has English descent

The dna data is far more complex and nuanced than that, and varies by region. Doubt it would be as high as 50 percent outside of NI.

All my DNA comes out of the UK,…mostly Irish, mixed with some Scottish and English, as noted in the surnames of Great-great grandparents who emigrated and settled in Appalachian America by late 1800s. My father was an OConnor, Patrick OConnor came out of Cavan, and my mother her dad was a Conroy from Galway area… Remaining surnames of maternal line were Milton/ Marren /Armstrong/Dunne/Hart/McClusky/Murtha/Haney/Campbell/Baker/Kane/Roberts/Feely/Gallagher/Morris/Austen…. I haven’t done a dna, bc i don’t trust the nefarious globalists characters controlling this info are using it for the good of humanity
