My left eye is having some sort of allergic reaction; it’s dry, sticky, AND watery. This felt about as important to bring up as how someone pronounces a word, as in “not at all”.

The fact people are getting this pissed off about Deicide, a band whose glory days happened years ago, is insane to me. Sure, the first three albums are great but everything released since then has been solid to something I wouldn't expect anybody to have a strong opinion on.

It always kinda surprises me whenever I see conservatives within the death metal fan base. Aside from being an anti-establishment music genre mostly, it's literally a band that sings about hating Jesus and religion in every song. I don't think the most hardcore Reagan and Trump supporters would wanna be caught dead with a band like Deicide or it's fans. As far as the new album, I think it's okay and will listen to it every now and then, but I'd rather listen to Stench of Redemption and the first 4 albums.

I know that I am way late for this party but just had to throw in my 2 cents. I just stumbled across your videos and man! you make me laugh! I don't even listen to extreme metal but being the 50 something that I am, I am a NWOBHM junkie. I don't want to get too general but back in my teens and twenties, my friends and I were so called metal purists that thought we had our fingers on the pulse on what metal was true and what was wanker metal. So it goes that nothing has really changed. Perhaps when these twats grow up, they will understand that metal just like everything else is subjective, in the ear of the beholder and that disagreement doesn't equal war but actually good conversation. Deicide fans have always been unhinged. In the early 90s, two Deicide fans killed a small dog and quoted that the lyrics to "Sacrificial Suicide" as inspiration. Even Glen was quoted at that time saying "he thought it was great and that he killed small animals all the time" in an NME magazine interveiw. That statement is what led to Deicide getting a M80 strapped to their dressing room door when they were on tour with Gorefest and Therion in Stockholm, Sweden on Nov 25 1992. The bomb went off during Gorefest's set. Someone from the Animal Liberation Front layed claim to the attack. It's Deicide. I love Deicide but their fans have always been psychos in both good and bad terms. Just as much as glen was in his youth. Deicide just isn't Deicide without a little controversy, lol. To my ears, this album was a huge step up from the last 2. So admittedly, I was a little surprised that you gave it a lower score, but I certainly wasn't angry about it. But we all hear these albums differently, so to each their own. Cheers!!!

I dig most of Deicide, would see them live any day of the week. But the only albums I really go back to regularly are the first 3 and Stench of Redemption. The rest are either outright awful or just pretty good but nothing I ever revisit save one or two songs.

In regards to the first comment, I was accused of the same thing, with roughly the same vitriol and very similar verbiage (to the point that I wonder if these aren't pre-generated stock form letters), for daring to defend subtext as an integral part of an artist's intention (this wasn't the example I used at the time, but in essence I argued that the subtext of Arthur Miller's The Crucible was, by Miller's intention, a critique of McCarthyism, that this critique was not invented by critics and academics to add meaning that didn't exist--TLDR: subtext is part of the text). Mind you, I'm not a youtuber and at the time I was working at Walmart, so it was a bit odd (and a little rich) to be accused of being an elitist and a teacher (yes, not just a graduate, but a fucking teacher!) at the mythological Frankfurt school (to be fair, I do have a college degree, but I was much more of an independent centrist after college and didn't embrace truly leftist ideas until the COVID outbreak, some twelve years after my last college stint). What I remember most is that the poster/troll was constantly misspelling the same word (I can't remember which word, but it was an important part of their argument and misspelling it changed the meaning of what they were trying to say, and it legitimately annoyed me that they didn't even know how to spell the word, which meant they likely never saw it in print and learned it from KZfaqrs or conservative news outlets). After I corrected them multiple times and they continued misspelling the same word, I used that as an excuse to bow out gracefully; they reacted as if they'd won the argument--their side of the argument, again, being that text should always be read literally, that subtext is added to works by critics and academics and not by the author). They even gloated that I fed them proof of the Frankfurt School and implied that they would use my words against me in an upcoming video; I never did get around to trying to see if they were bluffing or if they were actually a far right youtuber; by the time I became curious enough to look for it, I'd lost track of which video's comment section in which the debate had taken place, so I never found the purported video within which I was to be excoriated.

On the argument at 7:51, I used to hate death metal until I tried fleshgod apocalypse because I knew I liked symphonic elements. Took me a few goes, but i eventually started enjoying it more and more, until now, where im going to death metal shows and collecting records.
