It's a hard world to get a break in
All the good things have been taken
But girl there are ways to make certain things pay
Though I'm dressed in these rags, I'll wear sable some day
Hear what I say
I'm gonna ride the serpent
No more time spent sweatin' rent
Hear my command
It ain't no use, I'm breakin' loose,
Holdin' me down, stick around
But baby (baby)
Remember (remember)
It's my life and I'll do what I want
It's my mind and I'll think what I want
Show me I'm wrong, hurt me sometime
But some day I'll treat you real fine
There'll be women and their fortunes
Who just want to mother orphans
Are you gonna cry
When I'm squeezing them dry?
Taking all I can get
No regrets
When I ... openly lie
And live on their money
Believe me honey, that money
Can you believe, I ain't no saint
No complaints
So girl go out
Any doubt
And baby (baby)
Remember (remember)
It's my life and I'll do what I want
It's my mind and I'll think what I want
Show me I'm wrong, hurt me sometime
But some day I'll treat you real fine
(It's my life and I'll do what I want) Don't push me
(It's my mind and I'll think what I want) It's my life
(It's my life and I'll do what I want) And I can do what I want
(It's my mind and I'll think what I want) You can't tell me
(It's my life and I'll do what I want)

Born in 1950, I am so grateful I was able to enjoy the Animals, The Who, Dave Clark 5 and the Beatles, My favorite Group then was The Who, but listening to the Animal's songs now....Its the Animals. Eric Burton is an awesome vocalist. The first song I learned to play on my guitar was The House of the Rising Sun.

it's so strange to think this video was uploaded when I was a child in 2007 which to me feels like a lifetime ago, yet the day it was uploaded, the song was already over 40 years old which is longer than I've been alive. My mind simply can't comprehend how long ago the sixties was, yet whenever i listen to these songs they still sound so fresh, so modern, so original. idk if it's just me or if the songs were just that excellently crafted, maybe a mix of both, either way, i do hope this music never dies. it's a genuine miracle that the internet exists and we can access all these songs literally in the palm of our hands

Eric Burdon...one of the all time greats. Summer of '66, I drove my red Mustang fastback to a concert in upstate NY. The opening number was "Don't Bring Me Down". On the opening power chord, a gigantic speaker mounted 20 feet above the stage exploded. I kid you not. After a 30 minute delay, the band came back on, and this time the speaker held up. Eric Burdon continued through a 90 minute set, and, I tell you, he was the real deal. They did virtually every song in their record catalog, and more.

from where did you drive your Mustang to Upstate NY? Thanks for sharing your memory. Reminds me of when I was asked to choose a song during a group psychotherapy session. Each torture victim chose a song for the counselor to play. The counselor loaded my song, then foolishly walked away from the player. The opening banging bars of "Crazy Train" song by Ozzy Osbourne nearly knocked my unknowing counselor off the floor as he walked towards me away from the speakers with his back facing the player. Made my day. At least I laughed.

One of the most underrated singers out there. Sure, you hear about Jagger, Lennon and McCartney but Eric Burdon's voice tops them all. (Jagger has the best stage presence of course!) Why can't they make music like this anymore? People with real raw talent. At this point, it didn't matter how they looked or how marketable they were, it was about talent, ability and most importantly the music. I wish we could go back to simpler times. It seems like music was so much fun back then instead of the insanity it has become. Sorry to preach. It just came out.

He comes from a British working-class background, and so many songs have the theme of getting out of that treadmill existence, and of gaining freedom from that rigid fifties mentality of what was and wasn't acceptable. (hence the title of the song, and also "We Gotta Get Out of this Place")....a common theme then in rock, and among us kids, too. Oh, boy, it was a fun time.

Eric Burdon and the Animals. The original "punk rockers." I used to love listening to them and they had a real long string of hit songs in the 60s. That attitude that they had, that in your face kind of demeanor, we all shared that in those days. We questioned everybody about everything. We didn't take anything for granted after we saw what the politicians and businesses were doing. We didn't trust them. We got the answers we were looking for and started trying to do things better.

Something so often missed... was that this sound, this musical style, was SO VERY NEW. These bands were laying down the paving stones for bands to come. And some pathways could just never be repeated. The Animals were such a creative, original group. I only wish they'd held up longer, added more music to their archive for all time.

He was one of the best rock an roll singers of all time. I saw the band in the 60’s perform. I will never forget how great they were back then. I also saw Eric explode when a fight broke out in the audience, and knowing how hard Eric was he couldn’t wait to join in. What a hard guy he was for his size. One of the best bands ever 👍
@chriswebster24
@chriswebster24 11 ай бұрын
Yeah, I bet he was always hard, whenever he visited you in your dreams/fantasies--hard as a rock, I'm sure. I can tell it meant a lot to you when he exploded. Of course, he couldn't wait any longer, because of how hard he was. You must've been sore for quite a while, after he got through with you. He was a very hard guy for his size.

That pre-chorus section is no man's land if you get lost and aren't counting. The bottom drops out and you're in free fall. No edits back then. One take and no mistakes. Oh!, well. No worries! He's Eric Burdon. Never a dull moment. My hero! Rock on, big guy!

Saw him tonight. His band did come in too early on this song for the chorus. He recovered like a pro. Still sounds amazing after all these years
@BigStar303
@BigStar303 4 ай бұрын
@@spellbounddj4758 Actually, it's just the opposite. If you know the song, you'll know that Eric dragged out his phrasing too long, and thus was not in the right spot when Chas and Dave came in (properly) with the backing vocals. The perils of singing live to a pre-recorded backing track! Eric sometimes had trouble with this. Years ago, I heard a TV performance of "Don't Bring Me Down" that is much more dire than this. Eric gets totally lost...his vocals and the backing track are out of synch through half of the performance. None of this in any way diminishes the greatness of the recorded version of this song, or the great ones on either side of it ("We Gotta Get Out of This Place" and "Don't Bring Me Down"). Three of the most intense and powerful records of the 1960s; they'll live forever. (Honorable mention, too, to the great "Inside - Looking Out.")
