DC characters just shine better when your going for that classic 1940s look.

Agreed...thats because DC heroes ARE the definition of the Golden Era in comic books. The only Marvel hero that comes close is Cap.

James Bama used gouache for preliminary sketches of illustrations he completed in oils and they're amazing. I'm fortunate enough to have two that he did.

Man I never get sick of seeing your artwork, I only have 2 artists in frame on my walls, and ironically enough it's you and Norman Rockwell. I have the cover of Marvels issue #4, and the spiderman reflection cover of the Marvels tpb; and then I have 'The Ballerina' and 'Checkers' from Rockwell.

Interesting to hear Alex speak of his influences and how his style in a way, is an homage to them. Alex Ross is on another level and this Marvel fanboy loves it. And yes, although I prefer the Marvel Silver age, I have bought DC books with Ross art.

Gouache are rarely available in my country. Only imported ones that are extremely expensive. But I am learning watercolors, and the fact that Alex himself used watercolors once gives me hope.

There's an affordable gouache called Himi Miya Gouache, it's a student grade paint tho.
@tkraid2575

@@newaccount6414 Yeah, but the color pay off comes off as chalky. Student grade gouache is nice but it's better to save up for the expensive ones if you wanna enjoy the process and the final product. This is coming from a cheapskate who used student grade gouache and watercolors. There's always discounted sets for the expensive ones.

@@tkraid2575 yeah it does look chalky, it's actually my first medium in doing "proper" painting and although it has its cons, the fact that I can experience doing art and learning with it is enough for me.

Love Alex's version of Skeletor from 1:31-1.39 - reminds me of the Battle of the Planets/Thundercats covers he did a few years back...wonder if he'll ever do any TMNT, Ghostbusters and especially G1 Transformers-related art some day to boot...oh well, an '80s Kid can dream, yes...?!

I would love to see you make comics books but done in various artists styles....not only Norman Rockwell but like Edward Hopper, and any other painter you might like their style (I will admit, I am not brushed up on many artists) Maybe make it part of an educational series on different artist. (For instance, I have seen Edward's work hundreds of times but never knowing the artist until a few months ago) Please!!!
