Chris Pierce - yes, and it's not 48 hrs. Resting time but 24 hrs. Of resting time, I typically will choose a pipe, and smoke 2-4 bowls in that pipe, cleaning it in between bowls, meaning dump out the ash, sweep away the ash out of the bowl, and run a pipe cleaner through the stem until it comes out clean. then I will do a final cleaning and let it rest for a minimum of 24 hrs. Since I have several pipes, the resting time is extended because I have other pipes I can smoke. 👍👍👍

Rick O - a company by the name of BJ long makes a great bristled pipe cleaner, it's the ones I use, they have regular, and tapered kind, you can find them on line at smokingpipes.com or pipesandcigars.com 👍👍👍

The alcohol should have evaporated long before you smoke it.

The pipe Chap - I would think so, just make sure to use it sparingly I would emphasize 80/20 split with grain alcohol. 👍👍👍

Sweet Misery - I have never used Jack Danials as a cleaning solution so I can’t advise you, my intuition is that it shouldn’t hurt the pipe, but you will have to watch your pipe closely to make sure it is not being damaged. The solution I use is a mixture of 70 / 30 70% grain alcohol like Everclear, and 30 percent alcohol lacquer like Hazelnut. 👍👍👍

Muttnchop Piper where can I buy such alcohol? when you say mixture, do you mean it is already mixed when you buy it? and is that alcohol mixture made for cleaning pipes? anyway I buy some of my pipes here in a local tobacco store in Japan and they sell variety of smoking material from cigarrettes, cigars, pipes and so on.. I found some solution for cleaning pipes here but I never thought of buying it as I believe it was made of chemicals.... do you think some of cleaningg solution is made of chemicals? I have smoked cigarretes before and that is like maybe 30 sticks in total until now and I hate it.. I started smoking again with cigar this last February 2018 to fight stress and loneliness and I quit as it is so expensive for me... 1 stick is almost equal to a tin of pipe tobacco so I switch to pipe smoking because of inspiration from a guy who tell his story why is also switch from cigar to pipe.. and also I found your channel as interesting... I learn a lot from you... and finally... do you know any brand of cleaning solution that is also available here in Japan? and lastly give me pros and cons from those cleaning solution that you have tried.... thank you for your time in replying to this..

Sweet Misery - I really don’t know where you can buy the alcohol you need there in Japan, I have never been there. If Japan has a place that sells alcohol product exclusively, that’s where you want to look. The mixture I use is 2 different alcohols mixed together, it is not pre mixed. If all you can find is pre made pipe cleaner, make sure one of the ingredients is alcohol the rubbing alcohol kind, if it says pipe sweetener that is good as well. 👍👍👍

LackadaisicalE - I think either way is acceptable, the reason I chose to go from shank to mouthpiece is because I can push the pipe cleaner through easier, some of my pipes have small air holes to the point where as I am pushing from the mouthpiece to the shank it gets stuck about halfway through. Doing it the other way it doesn't seem to get stuck, it's a personal preference really. But to answer your question, no, once the pipe cleaner comes out clean, there is no bad taste when you resume smoking. 👍👍👍

Aha I see, yes I also have problems getting the pipe cleaner through some of the stems due to small hole, the pipe cleaner bends repeatedly and one must push at half an inch at the time, so I get your point, and I guess that once it is clean, it is clean, as in no bad taste. In fact, I will try your way on those pipes! Thank you for your kind and thoughtful answer. This is one of the friendliest and probably the most helpful "Yotube pipe clubs" I have come across! Did I brag about the Dunhill Calabash Root I bought today? Sorry, but I have noone else to share my elation with!

First of all let me say do not start smoking a pipe until your 18. Now my recommendation would be to purchase a pipe that is no more than $50.00 because if after a few months you decide pipe smoking is not for you then you are not out a lot of money. If you have a pipe store near you then you will know them because they will be called "basket pipes" if you purchase on line, then I would suggest "Smokingpipes.com" go to their pipe locator tab and put in price of $50.00 and choose a style of pipe you like. I would also suggest for your first tobacco you choose "Frog Morton Cellar" it's a light English, very sweet. You will also need pipe cleaners, matches and a Czech tool (tamper). 👍👍👍
