I think my favorite part of this was seeing your "real" house - lived in, crumbs, random balloons, toys in the sink. *This* I can identify with, which makes it all the more powerful to see that I also have the choice to make it beautiful, as long as I acknowledge that it won't be a one time thing, but a commitment. Thanks for showing us this side of things, super relatable!

I try as often as possible to put my kitchen to bed. I always say there's nothing worse than waking up to yesterday's chores. It keeps you from being able to start a new day. But it doesn't always happen. So I do what I can and I just make sure my coffee press and mug are clean for morning and that's good enough. 💚

I love this idea and watched this yesterday and decided I had to comment. I hope this makes someone smile. Yesterday my laundry room said “Mom, you have dirty clothes. You better do the laundry.” So I did. Dryer said, “Mom, I am tired, hang those clothes on the line. It will save energy.” So I did. While hanging clothes out Yard said “it’s going to rain tomorrow. You better mow.” So I did. As I mowed(3.5 hours), Garden said “Mom, you need to pick tomatoes.” Pumpkin Patch said “Check us out! I think some are ripe”. Blackberry bush yelled “Look, we have a few more ripe berries.” Finally Grapevine “We are ready too!” So I picked tomatoes, a couple of pumpkins, a handful of blackberries and a bushel of grapes. I brought in the laundry from line and sat down to a tired body. So last night I washed dishes, swept the floor, and cleaned what counter space was not covered with tomatoes, grapes, pumpkins, canning jars and lids. The stove had a clean water bath canner and pressure canner on it. I’m sorry kitchen that I didn’t get you clean last night. I’ll do better when canning season is over and the old man I live with gets that darn cast off his foot.

Nice concept. However, when living with chronic pain I have found that I have way more energy in the morning to deal with the kitchen. Especially since I don't have a dishwasher. Standing for any length of time just aggravates my pain. At the end of the day I just don't have anything left.

My mother is the same way! I joke that she wakes up with her pants on, lol-she’s just READY to go in the morning, can zip through her kitchen chores and often had done more in the hours she’d been up than we kids got done all day 🙈 Don’t ask anything after about 6:30pm though: when the rest of us were getting our 2nd wind, she’ll be passed out on the sofa, lol! So I guess it’s really just about striking when your energy is hot! 💪🏻🙌🏻

This is exactly what my mom, grandmothers, and MIL would do. They would say the kitchen’s closed and start cleaning. Since both myself and my husband work outside of the home I make it a priority to at least get the dishes done daily. If that’s all I can get done I still call it a win.

Because of my husband’s disability, I’m the only one cooking and cleaning these days and sometimes I’m very tired after supper, especially when we eat late during the summer. But I’ve gotten in the habit of doing exactly what you’re doing because it helps me so much when I walk in to cook breakfast in the morning. It would make me even more tired and overwhelmed if I walked into the chaos of a dirty kitchen. I just put on a KZfaq video to enjoy, get lost in my thoughts, and get it done. Feels so good to go take a bath and know it’s taken care of. Great video. Thanks.

We removed our dishwasher about 2 years ago and haven’t looked back since. It’s nice to have your dishes all clean throughout the day instead of them piling up and waiting to run a wash cycle. As someone who cleans homes for a living, and was raised that dishes were washed and put away, floors swept and stove and counters cleaned for the night, I can assure you, this drives me nuts when it’s not done. I see it way too often and cannot understand that the most expensive room in the home is always dirty! Not to mention it’s where your food is!!

Dawn Yockey, I cleaned homes for a living as well. Not easy work! If only people realized how leaving food out on dishes overnight can bring in extra tenants like bugs, it might motivate them to clean up a little better before bedtime. Just washing a few dishes, and sweeping a kitchen floor at night helps and can make all the difference . You can do the deeper cleaning later.

@@divine34j You just do what you can in your season. If it's good enough for your family, that's all that matters. You don't have to justify anything to strangers on the internet. Please don't let these negative comments discourage you. Besides, we all die with things left on our to do list. You get to choose your priorities. Take care and God bless you and your family.

@@divine34j I love hearing your confidence in determining your own path based on your own priorities and circumstances. There can be so many extenuating circumstances which affect the seasons of our lives - quantity of children, their ages and temperaments, possible depression/post-partem depression, financial worries etc., etc... I love Shaye's channel and the inspiration she brings to my home and our lives, but some things on some nights just. don't. make. the. list. And that's ok. :-) Because, balance... And only we can best determine that based on our own intimate knowledge of our specific circumstances. Right now, my balance looks like a clean kitchen every three mornings. I choose to pour my focus at this time into my children's education, clean clothes, good food, and growing their wonder of God's creation. If my kitchen (which, sans kids, would be one of my top priorities) suffers 80% of the time, so be it. I'm willing to bet that anyone who is following this channel has some of the most beautiful homes in the world, even if some of their stoves have three-day-old grease caked on. It just means that beauty shows up in other ways. "Progress, not perfection", and "I can't do it all!"

Very inspiring video Shaye! I always start my day by making my bed, and i end my day by doing the dishes. That way, my home alway looks clean, even in between the deep cleans. It’s easier now, since I dont have little ones around my home anymore. I had to do more tasks when my daughter was little, including working outside the home. I still go to work but, its much easier now for me! Now if i could just keep my husband from making little messes while I’m at work! LOL! I guess I’d rather have a husband to gripe at, then to have the clean home and be missing him. ☺️ thank you for this sweet video!

I really enjoyed this video. It is much overlooked habit that is beneficial to our self care and mindset...to start the day with a welcoming kitchen. Years ago my friend and I were incorporating Flylady's advice. She said, "Don't start today with yesterday's work", regarding dirty dishes and a dirty sink. It's defeating. My son is in charge of maintaining the Berkey daily and makes sure its full before we go to bed, he grinds the coffee for the morning and runs the dishwasher, I fill the kettle and set out the pour-over dealio and voila! The peaceful joy of the morning is enhanced by entering a clean kitchen ready for the day💗

I'm so glad you found a vacuum you love. My dyson is looking so beat up , it didn't know what it was in for coming to our homestead but us holding up incredibly well other than cosmetic stuff. I did wonder what you were using on that beautiful oven. Thank you for sharing lovely 💚

My cleaner mix is the same only in different strengths for glass, degreasing, tub/tile and floors. Saves space and money. I am someone who REALLY USES my kitchen. I struggle with putting it to bed. I like your commitment and am going to follow it. I think I will “close the shop” so to speak for the night much earlier than I do. This would help especially now we are in canning season.

Love this Shaye, I've been doing this for a while now. I'm rather late catching up with some of your videos as I went through a time of not being able to keep up with watching KZfaq videos. I just love watching these homemaker videos, recipes, harvests, you name it/make it I watch it. They're always inspirational. 😊

I also clean my kitchen before the day is over, t helps so much with starting a new day. I do have occassional days where I wash dishes and they don't get put away until the next morning. This was a good video.

My husband does this. I didn't understand at first but now I make an effort to make the kitchen clean at the end of the day, even if everything else is a wreck.

wow, so many beautiful cooper pans. They look well taken care of as well. I think that putting your kitchen to bed is a common practice at restaurants and it should be implemented more among us home cooks. Good job on making this video and putting forward this content.

So many good tips. Best hack was the clip on the dish towel that hangs on the oven!! I’ll be using that!

In 1976, when other women were talking about their (new) dishwashers, my mother liked to say she had a 16 year-old dishwasher and it worked better at 16 than it did when it was new! 😊 RIP MOMMY.♥️

What a sweet story! Your mom had a great sense of humor. I only hand wash. That way, I don’t have too many dishes cluttering the kitchen plus not everything is dishwasher safe. I want to get rid of the dishwasher but my husband thinks it’s useful for those few times a year gatherings. Right now, it’s holding empty spare jars and kitchen towels!

@@cherokeepurple4480 i’m pretty much the same - thanks to mommy, I like to handwash. The only things that get run thru the dishwasher are glasses and if one of the dog babies lick sausage gravy and biscuits off a plate!

Love the video! When I heard you start talking about this a year or so ago on the podcast, I didn’t realize not everyone did this. I grew up where the kitchen was cleaned after family dinner and dishwasher stared at night/unloaded in the morning/dishes added to it as the day went on, and I have done that since I moved out of my parents house and got married 15+ years ago. I love love love a tidy kitchen (and house) before bed!

Amazing to see someone not clean in a rush. I feel like I am in a toxic rush all the time, especially cleaning for company. It makes me ill. Definitely need to make some changes.
