Joe McNally is an amazing photographer. His creative use of flash photography is inspiring. Sure, you can nit-pick each image and find minor faults. But Joe's sharing of his knowledge is much appreciated. Thank you, Adorama, for producing these videos.

True but I need to define rather than redefine street photography. I would define it as spontaneous shots of people, cityscapes and eventually landscapes. No models, no studio lighting/reflectors ... flash is ok, even off camera but maybe handheld rather than 5m away where a passer by could grab it and run ;). I think you get the idea. I like Joe McNally's pictures a lot (most of the time) but, the pictures on this videos are not travel souvenirs but rather pictures for a hotel brochure or book.

If you're going to be driven crazy 'coz a tip off a mountain in the background got cut off, it sucks to be you. The mountain is not even the main subject so who cares. Even in portrait photography it's perfectly okay to cut off the top of the subject's head.... the main subject's head!! Sacrilege, right? No, 'coz it works. For a hair salon product shot, not so much. It's good and diligent to know and follow the rules. But a true creative also knows when to break them.

Do you really call that photographic style travel photography? I don't. I would call it commercial hotel photography. My definition of travel photography would be something like street photography abroad.

then you need to redefine your definition of street photography and travel photography!! you cant put an ocean and a mountain into a picture and call it "street photography abroad"!!

Joe's a great guy and an amazing photographer, but the opening photo is a turd that need not have been a turd. He cut the top off the most interesting mountain and it doesn't work! It distracts! I can't believe he did that!
