Had a 225 Mk1 and it was so good I bought another one 10 years later after a tonne of cars that simply just couldn't bring the same smile to my face (including 2 Italian cars!) My new one is a 3.2 MK1 and it's everything I love about the TT with the bonus of the VR6 engine seen in the R32. Glorious car

I had this car, all of the details that he speaks about is what drew me to the car. It was just very well laid out. I put a ton of miles on it, it had a few electric issues , not otherwise was very solid. I had APR software on it, and other than some coil packs going south I never had any problems.

I own this car (2004 225hp version) and it is the very best car I have ever had. I've owned Mercedes, Sunbeam Tiger, BMW 2002, and several others. The Original Audi TT is the best of all.

I drove an 05 TT with 140k miles and it has been the best car I've ever driven. It's great fun to drive and other than some electrical problems, it drives and handles perfectly.

It became fashionable “not to like” this car later. Isn’t that always the way! A well made, stylish and in 225 form really quite fast... they got it right, so much so that Peugeot copied it with the RCZ. If you service it properly, you will get nearly 200K with few problems. Try that with the Mazda RX8.

Is it really reliable? I've heard people saying the opposite. Also how usable are the rear seats? Could 3 people take 2000km trip?

+Dorifto Kingu! cuz i still got it for daily right now too, sure its not for 3 , i just ride it to go to work and with my BB mostly ..mostly everywhere in the country and it's still like a new cuz i had changed the timing belt,gasolin filter, 2 ps vacum air valve, air filter. thats all.

I am in agreement with you, namely that the oldest TT generation was more unique and more beautiful looking than the 2013 generation. I back this up because i am fortunate to own a 2002, TT, 1.8 V5 Turbo Coupe, petrol version, just like the one in this video. And what Richard Hammond comments in the video is all true. Mine has exactly all the details he explained. It is still in mint condition, goes fast, i would not change Eleanor as she is called for the world.

Hi Is it true that the 1.8 Turbo is sluggish below 4000rpm's I drove a friends tt 1.8 t single exhaust so i'm not sure on the bhp But i don't believe it's the 225bhp and below 4000rpms there was nothing then a almighty surge of power and pushed back in the seat I'd Love a 225bhp remapped to 260bhp They're crazy fast

Mr330d I have a 225. All the action is in the mid-range, from about 2500 - 5000 rpm. There's not a lot happening at the top and bottom end.

It's a 1.8 5V not V5 meaning 5 valves per cylinder not a V5 like a V6 with a cylinder missing.

A nearly flawless symmetrical design. The back looks nearly like the front. They did the same with the bettle from the same time period.

Audi had a recall on the original TT because at high speed there was lift on the rear of the car so they put a small little spoiler on the boot lid to give a little more downforce but importantly keep the rear end planted and aerodynamically stable.

I own a 2001 coupe manual shift, but I do like Hammond's new Morgan. It is better than the TT, but not by much. When they went to the A3 chassis which is longer and wider, the company destroyed what the TT is about. In six more years my car will be a classic and I will still drive it.

Love the mk1 TT, especially in goodwood green. The silver TT's at 0:42 and 0:59 are still on the road,

A big flaw in the TT, is the convertable, its drain/ vents clog easily and fail causing severe moisture damage/ cabin flooding Must be garaged.

Hmm, concidering to buy´this car as my frist, is that a go or no-go? They are for about 11.000$ here in Denmark when droven 200.000 kilometers. But i am told that the engine can drive much further before repairs and stuff are needed. Is that true?? HOW expensive is this car to have? Help!! :D

One of these was my first car and I really loved it, very little problems and a ton of fun to drive even if you are new to cars. I wholeheartedly recommend it :-D

Fun Fact; This was the UK Launch of the Audi TT, annnd Hamond puked all over the passenger seat, before even driving it. In his defence, he had ben drinking heavily the night before with other motorjournalist and Audi folks.,.. Jeremy Clarkson didn't know Hammond, but he was also anetding for an article for the newspaper about the TT.. He later told that the PR from Audi had told everybody that a young new kid, trying to be a motorjournalist puked all over the car and Clarkson wanted to know who did it - later he found out. Don't believe me, check DriveTribe on KZfaq!

I must be the only person in the world that thought the TT was a piece of junk. It’s just a polished VW Golf made to look nice. Under the skin it’s just a hatchback regular car. Never understood the attraction of Audi, it just screams “I can’t afford a BMW or Benz” so need to live with the poor brother. Drove one back in 2006 and it was crap. The Ford Focus was better to drive. Badge engineering at its finest.

Problem with older cars especially German ones is the reliability and cost of ownership. They seem cheap to buy but the repair and part costs are insane. I'm done with Germany. Personally stick with Japan now. Chopped in the old 2001 Mercedes for a new Toyota RAV4 and love it. No problems

1:49 man...people back then in the 90s and 2000s had ZERO sense of aesthetics and beauty. There was a big downfall in aesthetics everywhere from late 80s to late 2000s. Im watching this over and over and I cant believe someone calls this piece of shit "beautiful".

Thank god we are not all the same. This car is great looking and when you look around the car park it stands out as the best looking car around. It looks best from the back..i own a 2006 (last of the mark 1 version) The interior is great and the handling is superb although mine is a quattro, so it should handle great.
