FILM DESCRIPTION:
A charismatic evil genius named Sir August de Wynter (Sean Connery) discovers a way to harness the weather and utilize it as a weapon against London and the world at large. The posh and droll combo of secret agents John Steed (Ralph Fiennes) and Emma Peel (Uma Thurman) are on the case. But then Peel is implicated in the sabotage of a government scientific experiment. Steed and Peel try to clear her name, while also trying to stop de Wynter for good.

They did all that fencing and most of it was unseen due to the truckload of cuts

Compare to Diana Rigg's first appearance as Mrs. Peel from the original series.

My only complaint is Ralph needed to be a little more rugged or tougher or something. He seems a little too wimpy. Uma was super dominant and powerful in the movie that she kind of made him look a bit wimpy. The should have also given Ralph better hair. I feel he looked more masculine in The English Patient and had more sex appeal in Maid In Manhattan. (Yes I just used a JLO movie for my example!) lol

And Fiennes bowler looked off the shelf, not fitted. Brim too wide and brow too low. Attire was a key part of the tv series, how a movie could muck that up is beyond me.

Steed looked older in the original TV series. Macnee and Rigg were 16 years of age difference. Fiennes and Thurman are eight.

I agree. Steed’s styling was off. Macnee has flair and style with the matching shoes, bowler, suit and brolly all in one color. He also had fancy collars and cravats. Ralph looked more like a London banker lol. They tried to make him a classic dandy type, but it didn’t feel right.

This is probably the best seen in the movie, (excepting the reveal of Emma Peel in her black catsuit of course!).

It was nominated for Razzies in Razzie Award for Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, Worst Actor, Worst Actress and Worst Sequel or Remake and made $55 million worldwide on a $60 million budget. I don't think there's any real demand for a directors cut.

Y'see, the thing about the original Avengers was that whilst it was "quintessentially British", and while Steed and Mrs Peel did enjoy sparring with each other, there was such warmth and charm to it. It wasn't just endless dry, deadpan comments delivered in a bored tone of voice. That's what Americans, or at least the people who made this film, don't get about the show.

5 years later, Uma Thurman would showcase just how good she REALLY is at swordplay. She wasn’t as good in this movie. Edit: 0:48 I stand corrected. Does she practise kendo?

Would be see yourself as an over achiever if you were the scientist and swordsman Steed? That’s what could of been added to the dialogue. Avengers series w/Diana Rigg was classic Avengers for me. I did like and appreciate Linda Thorson as Tara King, but Emma Peel all the way baby.

Trubzhaw is entitled qt the 3nd. That was a name of qn actor who also was in the original avengers. 5he actor who originally played steed used the name trubshaw in another film he was in. The two actors would have been friends. Mocgael Trubshaw gang about with David Niven and Prince phillip.
