I totally feel you. I had that problem for a while, and what really helped me was to come up with a few simple questions to ask people. Things like, "how's your day going?" or "having a busy week?". Those sorts of questions are easy to ask, and they require people to think a little bit. From there, it's easy to launch into some pleasant small talk and leave a really positive impression.

***** That's very true, and that's why it's important to read people. If someone is obviously in a rush, I'll be efficient and not waste time on conversations. However, there are lots of people who brighten up once I take the time to actually personally converse with them. It all depends. :)

They need to listen to what you want and not ask you of you want to try whatever. The average customer who goes into a restaurant is ready to order food now!! not drinks first.
