There is still remoteness to be found amidst the twisting, rugged, forgotten Baja coastline. We found remote van life like we didn't know existed. When we thought we were wrapping our heads around what BAJA California travel had to offer we were pleasantly surprised by this. White sand beaches. Pounding waves. Relentless winds. Utah-like mountains. And, of course, small mission towns off the beaten track. Join the Slow Roamers for this near-final look at perhaps the Baja YOU didn't know existed!

Thanks again for a great video. We just got back from a too-short jaunt to Baja. I was keeping an eye out for your van on the off chance to meet you in person. We've had our eye on Asuncion, Tortugas, and Abreojos for years. We just don't have much time off from work yet to wander for more than a week or so - some day, though!

Baby steps, I was there too once upon a time. But hey, bright side, you can get down there for a week. 😁 We usually stick to the bush, the only time you’d have likely seen us is ripping down the MEX1/5 and that was only for a a couple hours on a randomly picked day. Glad you’re still enjoying the videos, thanks for watching Dafyd!🙌🏻

One of my favorite slices of Baja. You missed some great spots by the way. Some of the trades routes spots, Campo Rene, the lagoon at La Bocana, Shari Bondy's place in Asuncion and Shari, San Roque, none of these are secret. There are some very special places for those that explore that area still. I gave up trying to keep places undercover, now I use the "do I read/hear about it a lot rule" You have a great perspective and your videos are fun. It's interesting to get your fresh eye's on places I've been going to for 10's of years. I also admire how mush time you spend filming and editing. I do love Baja but it is getting smaller.

I love your perspective on overlanding. You’re quite an introspective fellow! How cute is St. Ignacio? My wife and I are planning a tour of California this summer in which, we will hit all 21 of the California missions. They are Franciscan, not Jesuit like in St. Ignacio. More epic drone shots and music choices. I especially liked the, “Hey Yaba, Hey Yaba” song at around 5:40! I just read that there’s a statue of St. Martin de Porres, ‘saint of the broom’ in the St. Ignacio Mission. Seems fitting for all your windy, dusty travel! Thanks for the video!

Glad you’re enjoying the music choices, that’s always a tough one and often what takes the most amount of time.🤣

Vizcaino peninsula is one of the last destinations that we should try to preserve from tourism with everything we have.
@SlowRoamers
@SlowRoamers 3 ай бұрын
Presumably that’s where we were? I couldn’t find a name for the greater area. I can’t see it being at risk of being overrun any time soon, the whole area is kind of a black hole on the map and the pacific side can be pretty brutal. The towns are certainly pleasant, but akin to Guerrero Negro. I think most people are mostly focused on the Cortez side, calm beaches and Azul water.
@malimish
@malimish 3 ай бұрын
@@SlowRoamers yes. It is called Vizcaino. The locals there are happy to be living their way of life with minimal reliance on tourism which is far more sustainable even if less lucrative. It's inevitable that more tourist will come but keeping that process to a minimum is vital in keeping their local traditions intact. The thing about these last 10 years is that there were practically zero videos of these kinds of places in Baja back then. Once they are out there, it runs fast. There are literally hundreds of new vids uploaded every week and like a virus, it has an exponential effect. You've seen the rest of it and how busy it's been. Baja as a whole has seen an extreme impact by this over the last 5-10 years. The biggest obstacle of the fear of being in a foreign country is gone for most people. I think you guys know that it just takes one person to find out about a place and decide to build a nice campground or organize a big van meetup for any place to be overrun. There is great surfing at Punta Abreojos but the actual spots are kept to the old school surfing traditions of being secret and very low key.

@@malimish I see. I certainly don’t disagree with you. I was just today talking with a friend about IG’s impact on Horseshoe Bend and how geotagging has exploded a lot of areas. So, I like to think I understand the impact of the “value” of a place getting out just once. I’ll admit that I’m fairly ignorant about the areas that we traveled through this time around. However, in my defence I don’t think I showcased them well, aside from Tortugas, but then, a friendly, quaint town is a descriptor that could be used for most Baja towns. It wasn’t until people mentioned in the comments about surf breaks and other places that I missed that I had any knowledge of them. I’m not sure what else to say about it. I understand, going forward that it’s probably best to stick to my typical policy of leaving remote areas nameless. With that being said, there’s only one remaining video from our stay in Baja, we crossed back into the US today, and I see no need to mention any of the areas visited. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the dialogue.

@@SlowRoamers I am guilty of the same things in the past for sure. We went to horseshoe bend the first time over a decade ago and couldnt wait to share with friends on IG. No on was there. It was just a side o the road free dirt lot and not managed by anyone. It wasn't really a concern at the time as vanlife and digital nomads weren't really a thing. I feel a little guilty of places like that and what they have become. Of course we weren't the only ones sharing back then. I have seen the full transition of places like that. I can tell you guys are cognizant of these topics and it's hard to not get excited to find roads less traveled. Glad you got to experience Baja the way it was decades ago.

@SlowRoamers
@SlowRoamers 3 ай бұрын
You’ll need to define stuck.🤣 Occasionally we’ll get momentarily stopped, usually it’s due to tires having too much pressure. Once I let out a little pressure I can typically drive out. We haven’t been officially stuck where we had to use recovery gear to get out.
