You've said that CBI programs are going to be harder to come by and requirements more stringent. Considering how many programs are in the Balkans and surrounding countries, do you believe that other countries in the region will establish new CBI programs? There are rumors from time to time but nothing concrete. Especially for those countries that aren't actively pursuing EU membership, it makes me wonder what they have to lose? They typically allow dual citizenships and they could reap significant financial benefits as neighboring Turkey has.

A second citizenship is a good idea and I plan on getting a Caribbean passport. But, many second citizenship opportunities just mean that now two countries can tell you what to do. I love being in Albania and the tourist and residency rules are pretty lax. But I don't want a citizenship here. The proper strategy is confusing, but we will get it figured out.

What your heard on the streets about Greek citizenship is misleading. Let me explain first. I'm a French lawyer who did an Erasmus exchange back there in Greece. So, no family or root in this country. Since then, I go each summer there, take my one month holiday, visit a new place in Greece each time. I fluently speak this language, the foreign accent is not important as long as you're understood by natives. I plan to retire there in 15 years approximately. It can be tricky (or not) to become a Greek citizen, but certainly not for an EU citizen like me. Only 3 years of residency in Greece, a "simple" test (language & history) and you have your Greek nationality. The level is theoretically B2 at least, standard European reference level, but if you have already an official document from a Greek embassy abroad certifying your level (as I have), they are far more cool with your and do mostly small talk. As it comes to foreigners, it depends. There's a long friendship between Egypt and Greece, a friend of mine (from Cairo) after 10 years became Greek national and... at 33 years old, was called for his military service in his new country : Greece!^^ Or course, if you're an American who suddenly decides to retire in Athens because life is cheaper and you love the sun, but doesn't know nothing else than your mother tongue, it can be a little bit difficult, especially if you don't want to learn the language of the country of residency... Greek in this case.

Becoming part of the EU will probably just result in even more people leaving to live/work in more affluent countries. With the political will it would be so easy for them to attract economic activity and capital and transform it's economy and wealth of it's people but they seem just happy to keep things as they are.

By the way I find it fascinating that many westerners believe “Putin is gonna invade Latvia, or another country”. That’s not happening. He doesn’t need it - doesn’t even need Ukraine. The Ukrainian situation was basically provoked by NATO and the US who in their turn got closer and closer to Russian border and then they vanished leaving Ukraine to be fed off to Russia. Smart as always - leaving their dirty work for the Ukraine to do. It’s still bad to invade other countries, just when the US does it - it’s liberating and democratic. When Russia does it - it’s fascist. I mean, that’s the common media angle right now.

A lot of people have part of their family tree, roots, from Poland. (Me too). But, they don’t accept great grandparents, only grand parents, parents. We believe that’s bec., the great emigration from Europe into America, Ellis Island (just about to say, Rikers Island), constitutes a majority of Americans, (not including immigration, legal or illegal, from S American, Some Latin Countries). That is bec., a huge group in America would be eligible for dual citizenship, and they don’t want to make it easy for this large block to be recognized and get the dual citizenship, in an easy way, simply by ancestry. Bec., at the time of this great Emigration into America, early 1900’s, large blocks of European peoples emigrated, whose ancestors are still Americans. They want to cut off that group, probably bec it constitutes such a large (original European) block, so they mandate grandparents, parents, no great grandparents; primarily from this great emigration from Europe. This constitutes a huge population group, numbers wise, in America. So, they put the skids to it. But, that’s fine, there are other ways, but, not ancestry for this group of European-Americans. 😎✅😀😀

It all has to do with when Poland was made independent, which was 1918. Prior to that you won't get citizenship but if you speak Polish and have cultural connections to Polish culture you can go to the embassy and apply for a "Karta Polaka" which literally translated means "Card of a Polish". It is basically a card that gives you easier access to move to Poland and a shorter time to get citizenship.

Now that my children have children can you guess what they can also do. That's right go camping and to the lake swimming with theirs. Freedom is doing whatever you can afford and anywhere you want to spend it. Nothing wrong with that. So in my nearly 60 years here the old rules are changed and new ones are made each year to keep a balance for all of our needs. there isn't one thing we can't do in Canada yet still people want more. Nothing needs to be the same because without difference we all would be limited.

You have a beautiful country and people are starting to see that. Look at all the vloggers making videos on KZfaq about Albania. You can't substitute natural beauty like that. I see potential.

I have dual citizenship (Canada and Kosovo) but I'm afraid Serbia will invade and ethnically cleanse Albanians again if I move back. Canada doesn't seem to have a good trajectory but I don't want to live in Asia or Africa. I have my eyes on US in states like Texas right now.
