I love how the original sounded solemn, like she had already come into terms with the fact that she will never have an identity. But in this one, she's more affected by it- maybe even furious. THIS IS AMAZING

While Emily’s haunting performance will forever be my favorite, I absolutely adore how much emotion this version has. It gives a completely new angle to Jane, and I love when actors make characters their own instead of copying the original.

I like seeing the differences in how this character is portrayed. In Emily Rohm's version, Jane Doe is very calm and is incredibly doll-like, and later in the song, she's rather sorrowful, openly lamenting about her fate, which is very reasonable given what's she's been through. With this version, however (I unfortunately don't know the name of this actress, although I think she's quite marvelous), Jane is very much an emotional character, coming off as more angry than anything else, which, again, would perfectly suit her given what the character has endured. She also keeps the doll-like movements (almost more like a marionette, really), which is a nice touch. All in all, both portrayals work wonderfully, and I love it. :)

I love this rendition! I like how in the original jane was very doll-like in her movements, very rigid and stiff. This version was very different but slightly different, almost like a marionette or puppet of some kind, and this was exemplified when she was floating through the air. The original jane in the air was also pretty stiff, but here she was limp like a puppet. I loved it so much!
@rayann712
@rayann712 Жыл бұрын
It may be a coincidence but I think it has to do with the style of doll they're basing themselves on. In the original Jane's head looks more like a porcelain doll that wouldn't have much range of movement whereas this version looks more like a ragdoll

@@rayann712 It also is linked in medical science. It comes from Rigor Mortis (the body becomes stiff after death, Pallor Mortis or pale skin as well as the body having a drop in body temperature after death) at least in Emily Rohm’s interpretation. With Ashley it seems although she adopts that stiffness, she also has a rag doll as though she could have either fallen out of the cart, or as the cart impacted her before decapitation, the force would have sent her flying in a ragdoll fashion.

I love both Emily Rohm's and Ashlynn Maddox's renditions of this song equally, but the more I listen to both versions and compare the two I get very different vibes from the two, and even two possible scenarios for the overall plot, based on audio alone: Rohm's gracefully haunting vocals make it sounds like as if either Jane Doe/Penny Lamb has been stuck in the warehouse limbo for quite some time before the events of the musical and has mostly come to terms with her situationーthus making it look like as if The Cyclone Roller-Coaster Disaster happened twice in total and that Penny Lamb died in the first roller-coaster incident, before Karnak was even builtーOR Penny Lamb throughout her life was just really, really graceful, calm, collected, but a bit creepy, not unlike a porcelain doll, and that part of herself is literally the only thing that stays with Jane Doe. Meanwhile, Ashlynn Maddox's vocals sound more... recent. More fresh. Unlike with Rohm's, I get the feeling that Maddox's Jane Doe/Penny Lamb actually died along with the rest of the choir, and she is just not having it. Maddox's Penny Lamb that will become Jane Doe here to me comes off as more expressive. Not as graceful and creepy as Rohm's porcelain doll-esque performance, but more ragdoll/marionette-esque and somewhat vengeful.

I really like the added notes at 1:05. And of how at the seconded of the going high to low notes you have the choir screaming except for her, you can barely hear her, because they're screaming so loud you can't tell if she's there or not. Edit: during the second raising "Ooh ooh" she raises the "Ah-aahhh!" a note higher. It's just a little hard to hear.

a normal fly system would have a harness around her waist and wires connecting her to the battens at the top of the stage. however, this fly system wouldn’t allow the spinning or her to act like a rag doll and is pretty stationary. this system has a mechanical arm that connects to her waist with a harness under her dress. this arm is connected to the floor and can spin and move with much more ease than a traditional fly system. since she isn’t balancing up there and is secured into the arm, she can be as doll-like and move as much as she wants without the risk of flipping over and overturning her balance. they use a similar system in wicked on broadway to make elphaba fly in defying gravity. i’ve never had the privilege to work with this type of system, but i would love to some day. hope this helped!!

@@patrickTHEceliac this one is actually closer to Bj on Broadway on the harness method the connection pole hooks to her harness in the back of her dress. Then she can do her bit. The pole can be either brought in and hid, more similar to the og production, or it can be raised from understate and hid in the dark as a option, a little more difficult but it is more mystical because it really can’t be hidden and happens in plain sight. I would personally if I had to do it use some black light to hide the mech and use that to do some trippy visuals but it would help hide the rig while making a vibrant image on stage
@arkov3314
@arkov3314 Жыл бұрын
@@timnco2752 Sorry to say but that trick isn’t the one used in this rendition as that one wouldn’t allow as much free movement and would result in the body not being able to be as doll-like Also I don’t think it would be as easy to hide the machine thing in the back because of the blue lights

I really like this one a lot! In the original she seemed to have come to terms with it, though it was sad and confusing for her, in this one she seems mad and furious over it, she will never know her actual name and it hurts. It’s almost like I can feel her pain, some of the high notes while she’s flying are almost played off like screams of anguish. In the OG Jane Doe was very stiff, the actor even saying it was to mimic a doll, in this one she’s limp, like gods mockery of a marionette. This one definitely hits the feels harder.

I LOVE THIS JANE SO MUCH the hair makes her look like a barbie someone played hairdresser with, the different lenses make it look like instead of irises she's just got two different-sized pupils, which can signal a concussion after say, head trauma... her movements throughout the entire show are a lot more doll-like, but the flying really hammers it in here. Her voice is also a lot younger-sounding than Emily Rohm's, really leaning into how young she was when she died. Emily Rohm's detatched interpretation is so fun especially when she's leaning into it to feel more spooky but Ashlynn Maddox is a storm of feelings, she's angry and feels wronged and she has every right to, it isn't fair, and she just hits different for me. She might be my favorite
