WARNINGS: Omori spoilers, implied hanging, death.
I thought this song was very fitting for Mari. When I saw the sequence with the lighthouse where she sees the defiled family photo and thought nothing much of it, and THEN have the scene later be followed by Mari's spirit taking over, I was intrigued to explore more of Mari's sentience in Headspace, over what happened, over life beyond Headspace, etc.
What if she found out more than she should have?

Unironically could be a stroyboard from an official studio 😭 I love how there’s still a slight messiness in the lines, OHHHHHH THE WAY YOU TRANSITION BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT WORLDS, SO COOL!!! 0:48 MARI’S SPIRIT APPEARING WITH THE DW CHILDREN BECAUSE TECHNICALLY THEIR PAST SELVES “died” WHEN MARI DIED… 0:58 Love the hands here 🥰 I don’t kmow if they’re the real chords, but very cool! 1:52 This is obviously meant to reference the photograph where RW Mari is pusshed down by Sunny. However the way she spreads her arms in front of DW Mari… You could either interpret this as her shielding DW from the truth of her death or RW Mari attempting to preserve the dream. Even Sunny’s own memories are fighting against the truth. Not to mention this is followed by the ad lib of “And I’m asking why, Lord?! If this is how I die, Lord…” 2:24 “A choir never complete,” the loss of Mari, the loss of an older sister, the loss of a lover, the loss of a friend. 2:33 “A song that no one knows,” Sunny and Basil stand over Mari’s body, hands locked the same way their pinkies promised to never tell what happened after piano practice. 2:30 “Just John and me, forever eternally just Jane Doe,” John Doe and Jane Doe are names given to unidentified bodies in America. After the incident Sunny and Mari have lost their sense of self, Sunny literally and Mari figuratively. Just like previously stated, their past selves died when Mari died.

@@emoreo ITS ALWAYS UNDERATTED HER PERSPECTIVE GOES SO UNDERAPPRECIATED literally like we know how sunny feels he thinks he messed everything up But it was *because* of Mari and she knows that which means it's probably worse for her, especially watching everyone she loved grow up sad and angry because of her, that would be devastating.

@@lou_butspecifically oh youre right her perspective is DEFINITELY underappreciated when it comes to her character, its always through the others' perspectives. she was sunnys sister. heros girlfriend. aubreys sister. but who IS mari to herself? how does mari feel about the whole situation? so often it goes unexplored and her character lives only through memories, which is GREAT for the story omori is trying to tell, but her character on its own is definitely overlooked often. sunny is a pretty unreliable narrator after all !
