Unfortunately The Band and The Staple Singers only did this one-time matching up. As many times as I've seen this, I still get chills when Mavis Staples sings.

Mavis and The Band's drummer Levon Helm got together in about 2010. A live album of theirs, Carry Me Home, came out last year. Recommended.

I got to see the queen herself, Mavis Staples, in person this past weekend at the Newport Folk Festival! She and Joan Baez performed this song with Hozier! An absolute blessing!🙌❤️

Hello friends, Pastor Fred here in Rockwood TN. This song turned 50 years old a couple of years ago. To honor it, Playing for Change did a version with musicians and singers from around the world. Robbie Robinson, playing the double neck guitar, is in the video, along with other famous people. Search for it, Playing for Change The Weight. Worth the watch!!

You can’t really understand the history of this if you do t look up. “The band”. Mavis and the staple singers and this movie. The last waltz It’s the first and best concert video upon the bands. retirement from the road. Who were they? Do your self a favor and watch the entire video.

Who had the idea to pair these bands up? SIMPLY BRILLIANT!!!! I never grow tired of watching this video. The videography of panning around to Pop Staples with his daughters in the background, beautifilly lined up in a row, WAS EPIC! These two bands played like they have been together for a long period of time, seamless transitions, beautiful solos, great playing on all of the instruments...... the worst part is when the song ended! Man, this performance was BEAUTIFUL on steroids. Fantastic reaction my brother.

Definitely watch The Last Waltz concert documentary. It’s on several streaming services. Francis For Coppola directed it. It’s a great evening of music!

This whole concert is crazy amazing! Between midnight showings at the theater, having it on VCR, and watching it on KZfaq, I've seen this concert too many times to count and it never ever gets old

This is from Thanksgiving day 1976. The bands farewell concert, there is a lot of great music on this album, and many top name performers I highly recommend you check out the rest of it.

The Band was iconic and so were the Staples and so is this song. Coincidentally listened to I'll Take You There earlier today. I saw The Last Waltz at the theater circa 1980 but completely forgot about this cover. Have to watch it again some time.

Starts out with the legendary drummer/singer Levon Helm, then you have Mavis Staples and the rest of the Staples family. Even when the rest of the band takes over it just sends chills all over. If you're interested in The Band, check out "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", "Cripple Creek", and others. They may sound like they are from the south, but they are from Canada except of Levon who is from Arkansas.
