The Band was incredible. This is from their final concert before they disbanded. Martin Scorsese filmed the concert and made it into the movie, The Last Waltz. It's probably the best concert movie ever. They had an incredible line up of friends joining them on stage to say farewell including The Staple Singers, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, and more. The Band was extremely influential and considered one of the greatest rock bands ever. Definitely check out King Harvest (Has Surely Come), their funkiest song, and Chest Fever, with amazing organ from Garth Hudson. The Band is absolutely one of the best!

The BAND will always take you to Church. The Weight is a beautiful song about loss and redemption. I named my dog Jack in honor of the lyric "I will fix your rack if you'll take Jack my dog..wait a minute Chester you know I'm a peaceful man. That's ok he said won't you feed him when you can."

Crazy Chester was an actual person from here in Fayetteville, Arkansas. :) The Band had roots here in Arkansas, with Levon Helm born in Elaine, Arkansas. Musician Ronnie Hawkins, from the Huntsville, Arkansas area, brought members of what was to become the Band into his band, The Hawks.

One of my absolute favorite songs of all time. Just can't get enough of The Band. The drummer Levon Helm is one of greatest singers-drummers of all time. The band is actually from Canada other than Levon. He's from Arkansas. The Staples just brings in more power and emotion from this concert. Check out the Playing For Change video version where artists from all around the world link up. You should do a deep dive into The Band with "The Night They Drove Ol' Dixie Down", "Up On Cripple Creek", and many others. You won't be disappointed.

A friend of mind claimed he knew the Staples Singers. In 1973 they were in a concert at Fenway Park. After the concert we hung around to see the performers leave. When the Staple Singers came out, the immediately recognized my friend and came over to chat. I must've been in shock since I barely remember what happened. This kid was only 19 and knew lots of well known people. He wasn't just bragging or telling tall tales.

If you watch closely she whispers "beautiful" at the very end of the song, she said she was talking about Robbie.

Absolutely without doubt the most musically talented of ANY group in history with each and every member proficient in several instruments. The drummer Levon Helm was actually the only American in the group with all the other members being from Canada. They played for years backing Ronnie Hawkins and then were Bob Dylans band for several years. Everyone simply referred to the members as "The Band" .........you HAVE to watch The Last Waltz. It is like an audible and visual history of American music.

The Staple Singers were primarily a gospel group consisting of Roebuck "Pop" Staples and his three daughters. Mavis carried most of the vocal load among the sisters and is still performing. The Band are 4 Canadian musicians and Levon Helm playing the drums and singing. They got their big break when they became Bob Dylan's band when he "went electric". This performance is from the documentary "The Last Waltz" commemorating their last time performing as the Band. They invited people who had influenced them throughout the years to join them on stage. Fortunately there was a glitch either the recording of this song live at the show or in even getting the Staples to be there. In either case, Martin Scorsese, who directed the whole thing, wanted the Staples and the Band in the documentary and got them together in a studio with this masterpiece being the result.
