Transports you to a different world. You start the movie, and 1 hour later, it is nowhere you thought it will be. Magic to see this cast together again! 9/10

Anyone who says the film is boring or nothing happens - I went from curiosity as to what was the cause of the falling out, to laughing hysterically in the confession scene with Brendan's character to complete and utter heartbreak at the ending sequence and everything in between - it was an emotional roller coaster and I'm not sure how some people aren't seeing it. It forces you to be introspective and empathetic. We've all been through the situation...maybe not as in-your-face as the two main characters but people come and go from your life and it's not always your choice, and you can't always control it. It affected me long after I walked out of the theater.

Martin Mcdonagh is a man born in England who we fully accept, embrace and love as an Irishman. In Bruges was two of the best Irish characters ever put on screen. It looks like he's only gone and done it again

If anyone is interested, the chair shown at 0:52 and 2:13 is a typical irish chair, also called gibson chair. It's a piece of furniture that was made not by professional chairmakers but by farmers or the local carpenter, wheelwright, etc. They could have put any chair as most people likely wouldn't care but it's very appropriate. Also, they are very comfortable in general, low and laid back.

If you can’t tell it’s pretty much a metaphor of the Irish Civil War, hence the two friends who liked each other yesterday now at each other’s throats

Beautiful movie about despair, loneliness, leaving a mark on the world to be remembered by, and the damage it can do to others. The theme of brutal and nasty humans, versus gentle, kind, nice animal loving people is so well done. The kid that played Dominic was a revelation. Excellent movie.

Brendan Gleeson is one of the most underrated actors of our time.

Martin mcdonagh is a man who doesn't give a shit about what sells in Hollywood, he's a man with a commitment to true storytelling. I'm always heartbroken when his films aren't widely adopted by the general movie going audience, but I honestly envy his ability to digest and express the human condition in a way that makes every persons heart skip an odd beat in their chest when they see the baser part of their character laid bare in such a beautiful and compassionate way. This is a man who understands the darker side of the human psyche and expresses it in such a way that the misanthropy prevalent in our society is given a strong voice while at the same time being gently guided to a level of understanding and compassion towards those around us and their many failings and foibles, and I fir one can't wait to hear this man's voice again.

Saw this today. 10/10. The writing, direction, photography, cast and acting all superb

Filmed on Achill Island, west coast of Ireland. It really looks like that. A beautiful place. Because there's hardly any trees you can hear the ocean at a distance, feel the fresh Atlantic breeze on your skin, and the strength of nature on your body is so intense there. A wonderful feeling. Only a 1 hour flight from Britain to Ireland West Airport Knock (NOC). Friendly people, warm pubs, great food.

The most Irish conflict ever

Loved it! This movie hits home for me because when i was in highschool i had a best friend for years who then went cold with me and decided she wanted to cut me off. For a long time i tried to bring the magic back between us, and wasnt able to let go. I find it relatable and painful, but very beautiful.

I'm watching it right now. the moment when Colm is driving Padraic home after he got beaten by the local policeman. Padraic's crying is funny at first few seconds but the atmosphere of 1920 life somewhere far away in Ireland in a village makes you understand that back then friendship and attachment to a person was important. it is a heartbreaking scene in this movie

Very relatable problem with male friendships. You can't really break up with your friends! Best you can do is ignore em or be blunt and mean, and surely they'll take the hint and leave you alone right? Well, what if they won't? Love the premise (and the In Bruges reunion!)

Martin McDonough is a great playwright. This has the hallmarks of his play, The Cripple of Inishmaan which I had the pleasure of performing in as a teenager. Can’t wait to watch this.

This was excellent. It’s been a while since a movie covered such a gamut of emotions so extensively, and much of that can be attributed to the expert acting by Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell. The symbolism of the civil war brewing and creating tension alongside the ending of their friendship was brilliant. I appreciated that we walked into their lives having not seen what their friendship looked like when it was thriving, but at the beginning of its end. For anyone who has had a friendship interrupted or severed, this hits a nerve, but not necessarily in a way that opens old wounds. I saw this two days ago, but it’s safe to say that this film will be on my mind for quite sometime.

I saw this film at the BFI London Festival with Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson appearing on stage before the screening, and the atmosphere during the film at the theater was amazing. It has tons of laughs and shocking moments that makes the audience wince. It was a roller-coaster of emotions throughout and a great viewing experience.

I can relate to this film because I ended a friendship. It was a great film. I'm glad that I finally watched it. All four performances from Colin, Brendan, Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon stood out to me.

I think the scariest thing about this scene is the jarring contrast between the indifference of Gleeson's character and Farrell's desperation and pleading. It's like his character just cannot compute how this has come to pass, while Gleeson's character has moved on long ago and doesn't give two shits about this so called "friendship". He has abandoned not only the friendship but all feelings for his former companion without any resolve. Having your friend leave you is one thing, but the sheer indifference Brendan shows... that shit's scarier than a horror movie.

I watched this movie very recently. It is a roller coaster of emotions. I felt so bad for the friend who lost so much, he was really the only kind, normal individual on the island. I was enthralled by 5 minutes. I was not expecting the ending and cried my eyes out. It left me quite bereft and sad. Beautifully haunting. 5 stars from me.

Love Martin McDonagh, he makes so few films every one feels like an event.

I am so intrigued by the plot of this movie. We've all been through something like this. Where you've lost a friend. Sometimes it's just over time and you've grown apart or it's something you've done or the other person has done. But just deciding one day to no longer be friends with someone for seemingly no justifiable reason is an interesting plot.

It's difficult to pinpoint exactly what it was but this film really touched a chord with me. I cried my eyes out watching it. It was so freeing. Movies are really magical when they can make that kind of thing happen... They open up for emotions you didn't even knew you were repressing. Loved it but I also won't be watching it again any time soon.

This movie absolutely incredible. Both insanely funny and painfully tragic, in a true Martin McDonagh fashion. Beautifully shot. I would say this is his strongest film yet. Colin Farrell's career best perfomance.

Martin McDonagh is a true genius of 20th-21st century film and theatre writing, darkly comedic irish drama, and this looks absolutely fantastic.

Grudge should be an entire genre of film. "We won't call it quits. We'll call it the start" makes me wonder how this grudge then plays out over generations. Just brilliant, best film of the year.

This was filmed in Achill Island, I spent many the summer there. However if I got a pair of shears to my fingers for every sunny day I had there. I’d have 10 fecking fingers left! But seriously looking forward to this.

In bruges is my all time favourite film and brendan gleeson is always phenomenal, the guard, the general and calvary are 3 massively underrated films in my opinion so can't wait to see this

Have always wanted to see Gleeson and Collin work together again since I saw "In Bruges".. Wonderful chemistry!!

I finally watched this film. Loved Colin and Brendan's chemistry in "In Bruges" and I've been a fan of Brendan since his Hamish role in "Braveheart." I really appreciate this refreshing story on multiple levels and love how Martin McDonagh keeps the audience engaged--and in suspense. The scenery is another major character in the film and McDonagh used it as brilliantly as David Lean did in his films. At some moments, I was taken back to another Irish film "The Secret of Roan Inish" (1994) when it came to asking the questions "What is community?," "What are our responsibilities to and for each other? "What do we owe ourselves?" I also highly recommend watching the films "Michael Collins" (1996) and "The Wind That Shakes the Barley" (2007) if you're not familiar with the Irish Civil War of 1922-1923. You don't need to be aware of this subject matter to understand "Banshees of Inisherin"; yet knowing the political and emotional landscape of what was happening across Ireland at the same time gives this film an extra layer of poignancy. These are unforgettable characters and the whole cast was excellent.

Irish actors are so often playing characters of other nationalities or Irish people in other countries that to see them acting in their homeland is almost a novelty :D

Definitely feels like a play he wrote and put on a shelf that he turned into a movie. Let's just hope it works as a movie too. His styles with the two mediums are different and this feels a lot more like Cripple of Inishman than In Bruge.

I watched it on a plane, knowing nothing about the story and I loved it so much. Definitely my favourite film of the year so far.

Just rewatched this film again and I really think it's one of my top favorite movies of all time. The acting, the message, the scenery, it's so freaking unique and well done...I'm sure I will watch it again and again.

I could tell this was Martin McDonagh's writing just from listening to the first few lines of dialogue. I didn't know his name by heart, except that I *loved* In Bruges and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. What a phenomenal writer to be that identifiable. I can't wait to watch this film. I'm really hoping it brings Colin Farrell his first Oscar nomination; he has been doing superb work for decades.

This looks infinitely more interesting than anything Marvel and Disney have put out in years!

Nice to see Gleason and Farrell together on stage again. In Bruges was a class film. There are many, many good Irish films. Man About Dog is great and The Guard is excellent.

I remember working on the mainland near the ferries the day they went out filming this in the Aran islands hoping to see Collin Farrell, Brendan Gleason or Barry Keoghan when they came back out from filming, unfortunately didn’t get to see them but at least I’ll get to finally see this film that I’ve heard so much about, looks promising and I have total faith in Martin McDonagh that this film will be a good one.

I’m very intrigued after watching that. Seems like it’ll certainly take a very dark turn.

I was in awe the entire time when watching this at the movie theatre. First time since Covid. I absolutely loved it. The acting was excellent. The definition of a pure masterpiece.

This reminds me of another brilliant film of Ireland, Waking Ned Devine. Absolutely magical film. Everything and everyone in it was just magical.

Was lucky enough to see this last night. It’s pretty spectacular! The trailer does a good job of capturing its immediate charm, but doesn’t outsell or spoil . Fantastic movie, fantastic trailer, go watch it in a cinema if you get a chance, or otherwise just watch it, because it’s pretty great! Best film I’ve seen in a decent while

The film is set near the end of the Irish Civil War. When Pádraig's sister goes to start a new job on the mainland, she sends a letter back to him saying, "people aren't as bitter as they are back on the island". It's a small detail, but it reveals something interesting. The Irish Civil War left a lot of bitterness on both sides, especially during the war and in its immediate aftermath. Yet even though the civil war never reached the island of Inisherin, Pádraic's sister thinks that people on the island were more bitter than they were on the mainland. Loneliness and isolation on the island seemingly left many people bitter and spiteful because they felt they had wasted their lives doing almost nothing. Colm and Pádraic's sister become aware that they are wasting away their lives, so they seek to remedy their situations rather than remaining stuck in a rut, like Pádraic and so many other inhabitants on the island. Colm seeks to establish a legacy for himself as a traditional Irish musician, while Pádraic's sister aims to establish herself and seek work on the mainland. There is a classical piece of Irish literature called "An tOileánach" (meaning "The Islander"/"The Islandman") that many Irish students study in school. It's set in a similar environment to the movie, on an island ("An Blascaod Mór"/"Great Blasket Island") off the coast of the west of Ireland. While the book is in Irish (Gaelic), English translations are available. The atmosphere and some of the themes of that book seem to be very similar to this movie.

Ah jazus we've been needing a proper irish film with real irish actors, can't wait to watch this!

Mcdonagh is a rare kind of artist, I have to say. Every movie is an event, something you can feel has slowly been coming to fruition for years. And like wine ages and gets better, so do his ideas - no hollywoodism there, just pure inspiration.

This movie should have won an oscar.

Best movie i've seen in a long, long time. I've been laughing and crying at the same time and at different times for the full lenght. Deserves far more than the praise it is getting.

This movie looks great & stuffed with talent..but also what a treat to see a film trailer that doesn’t give anything away. I can’t guess the plot at all, which is so welcome in an era where trailers show enough of the setpieces & plot points to predict events.
