Description: The distinction between the baptism of the Holy Spirit and being filled with the Holy Spirit. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is a unique event associated with the birth of the church, characterized by the filling of the Holy Spirit and the speaking of tongues, and it is not a normative experience for present-day believers-the gift of speaking in tongues ceased after the apostolic era.

When I was a new believer; before any commitment to any doctrine, I was in my room and I remember being convicted of my sin to the point where I could no longer justify myself (while reading scripture). It was the first time I was exposed to the Holiness of God and saw myself in comparison. I literally had to submit to God and confess that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself, but to ask for Mercy from God and, if Jesus Wills, a sip of Living Water (which I’ve been asking Jesus for, as God lead me to). In a moment I started feeling a sensation from my belly, and then to speak. I began speaking and then speaking more and with a new tongue. It wasn’t any language I recognised but it was sure and fluent. It became very bold and authoritative. It was a result from what only felt like rivers of water flowing out of my belly. I felt what Was like fresh waters rushing through my body from my belly outward, and out of my mouth came tongues. Was it a different language I don’t know and the people around me didn’t say, but I don’t think it was. I also, simultaneously, could sense a deliverance of something unclean inside of me and around me (my home). Later on I remembered the scriptures, namely *John 7:38* “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” In my time of need, being humbled by the Holiness and Sovereignty of God, I believed Jesus and asked if Him what I needed and desired most. And He Baptised me in my room with the Holy Ghost (2021). I’m sorry to all believers who’ve been hurt by other believers who make the baptism in the Holy Spirit an abusive doctrine, and I pray for healing ❤ for you. But I cannot also deny my Lord and this experience 🙏🏽 I will never forget this day. It was unlike any other and from then on I had no doubts that God is real and working. God bless you ❤

Your "experience" doesn't override scripture. As a new believer we can make many mistakes, believe me I speak from experience. But through following the faithful teaching of biblical pastors, like Pastor Osman and Pastor Hinn, reading your bible every day without fail, Prayer and the most importantly the work of the Holy Spirit, you will learn from these mistakes as you grow in sanctification and understanding. Recommend you start with the book of John. www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=john+1&version=LSB 1st lesson of a new believer, don't ever put your "experiences" as authoritative, they're not. If you are a faithful follower of Jesus the Messiah, you'll repent and I'll see this comment deleted later. If not, I suggest you read this: Gospel means good news! The bad news is we have all sinned and deserve the wrath to come. But Jesus the Messiah died for our sins, was buried, and then raised on the third day, according to the scriptures. He ascended into heaven and right now is seated at the Father's right hand. Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel." Otherwise one day you will be one of the many who'll hear this: Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, in Your name did we not prophesy, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name do many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’ URL: www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%207:22-23&version=LSB

Wonderful testimony, I had a similar experience as a new believer being walked through scripture about receiving the Holy Spirits empowerment to live in holiness, I had been praying for months to have the same experience as what I read in the book of acts, one day God sort of sovereignty set it up - I happened to meet with a long time pastor and family friend and somehow the topic came up, he said he would pray either way me right then and there, as he prayed for me I felt a peace come over me and out of my mouth came other tongues. Immediately following I started to be hungry for scripture, and the sins I lived in I had no desire for any longer. Friendships I had that brought me into sin I walked away from, and I had an endless urge to be in church whenever the doors were open or to be wherever Gods people are. I began to have a desire and began to share Jesus and His word with everyone, it’s been fifteen years and it didn’t stop. Of course my hunger for Gods word has grown but I absolutely point to that as being a foundational experience that I cannot deny. I’ve had plenty of supernatural experiences after the fact including tongues, and been around several pastors whom God has sovereignly done miracles where God spoke through them in a known tongue to a bilingual person, while they just thought they were speaking or praying in tongues. There is unquestionably abuses, hence why there is an entire chapter in the Bible devoted to the subject. But cannot throw the baby out with the bath water.

@@aronlilland7638 Thank you for your courage and sharing this. I really appreciate you acknowledging my moment with God. And I acknowledge yours, it's not at all far fetched or non- scriptural. I come from a background of unbelief and skepticism before I was saved. But when this happened to me it was sure as day that it was Jesus. Our other brothers and sisters, like the church member above who responded to me suggesting I had a false experience and that I am a stronger candidate than they to be cast out into outer darkness, unfortunately cannot comprehend it. But I understand that, it's just too bad they judge it and grieve the Holy Spirit and other believers. Thank God that He is our Salvation and Truth and not man. However, reformed doctrine has taught me a lot and encouraged me to be sober and I find it very refreshing. I just can't deny my God or limit him to a doctrine when He Himself came to my room and baptized me. God said if you seek Me you will find Me. You won't seek let alone find this from God if you don't believe or judge unfairly. the way different denominations interpret scripture is very interesting, but at the end of the day I hope all who doubt will at least believe Jesus 'for his works' sake'. God bless you and your family, and your church. In Jesus' Wonderful and Mighty Name. Amen.

@@KootenaiChurch You are correct, my experience did not override scripture. But I believe that scripture was fulfilled in my experience. Those Rivers were certainly not a metaphor. Thank you for the resources; It's interesting, in a Sovereign and ironic way, that you refer me to the Book of John. I tell you what: Hoping that you don't only dish out, but will eat, I ask you to join me - let us both go and read the *Gospel of John* again in the next couple of weeks. Not to prove each other wrong, but to let God reprove us, sharpen us, teach us, and reveal Himself to us both. The conditions are that we must be teachable and trust Him in Faith. And let's pray for God to bless us and our church while we do, and to give us the Pure Gospel and Jesus Christ from reading it. Do you agree to this? Ideally after this, if possible, I'd like you to join me in re-reading *The Book of Acts* . May God bless you brother/sister.

I had a similar experience. I was with a Christian friend sharing the Lord when I felt water bubbling up within me from my belly. As it continued a different words came to me ( not from my head but from inside) and I spoke them. We then prayed together. Later that week I prayed and asked the Lord to show me if this was really him as I didn’t want anything false or if the occult. Later while laying in bed, I had a vision. My eyes were wide open and I saw a sheet coming down from Heaven. I shook my head and said I can’t be seeing this. And I didn’t see it anymore. But it was still there and when it landed on me, my insides just shook and I was bathed in love. Not my physical inside but it was like my spirit. I was in the same dedicated frame of mind as you were. That being said, I stay totally away from all the gift seeking today as it seems to be for glorifying self. I am reformed in faith now but I also know there is a real experience and I believe such speaking in tongues is rare. Because of the massive abuse going on today it’s easy to dismiss it all. But I know what I know from the Lord… and I found the Lord said that out of our belly shall flow rivers of living water. It’s true

This is among the best teachings about the power and working of the Holy Spirit which I have ever heard! And you are right! Being filled with the Holy Spirit and speaking in other tongues do not, and never did, necessarily go hand in hand, and Epistle 1 Of Paul To The Corinthians, 12: 1-31 (especially vss 30-31, which imply a negative answer) proves it! But Pentecostals apparently ignore or disregard this! And I have shown that more than once to them!

I agree with you! I’ve been praying for my church. It’s grow with young people like crazy. Our young pastors preach the full council of God. But… they took away the hymns and play rock Christian music from all over. Steven, Furdick songs, hill song songs etc… band is so loud we can’t hear ourselves sing. When we say something about it, we are shut down. The music can keep us away. Sometimes we go late to miss the music. We have been through churches in our town, hard to find one that’s preaching right now.

I (Peter Hammond) understand the challenges you’re facing; for years, my family and I committed to a 1.5-hour drive one way just to attend Kootenai Community Church. I thank God, because eventually we moved, and now we're just 2 minutes away. I'd like to share some wisdom imparted to me by Justin Peters, which has guided me through these challenges. Firstly, unless you hold a leadership role, it’s not your responsibility to rectify the issues within a troubled church. Secondly, and most crucially, the paramount priority is to ensure your family is part of a strong, scripturally sound church. This includes everything from the sermons and the teaching to the music and all other aspects of church life. Heeding the advice of such a faithful brother, I encourage you to spare no effort in finding a church that upholds biblical truths firmly from the pulpit to the music and all it's aspects. I have a member in my family who is a charismaniac. She visited our church the other day, and when no one was rolling, running, shaking, or speaking in tongues, she said, "Y'all dont worship at your church?" My teenage son told her, "We are still brothers and sisters in Christ." She said, "Maybe step-brothers and step-sisters. These are not my people." How sad! And I'm a continuationist.

The Holy Spirit baptism is how the Spirit is recieved. I have never read in the history of the early church( Acts) of a believer recieving the Spirit at one point and being baptized in the Holy Spirit later. There are only three instances to where we read, in Acts, of believers recieving the Holy Spirit and what happened the moment they recieved. In each case the first thing that happened was that they spoke in tongues to confirm to those present that they had recieved.

In Acts ch.2 the filling of the Holy Spirit is synonymous with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit baptism is to be filled with the Spirit to overflowing. Elsewhere in scripture, being filled with the Holy Spirit and recieving the Holy Spirit is the Holy Spirit baptism. According to the scripturally backed Law of Repetition, the Word will repeat something said, and/ or an event ,, is repeated three times to: 1) To direct our attention to an important spiritual truth. 2) To set a precedent to where the same circumstance need not be repeated in as much detail as it is in these three instances. There are only three instances in the book of Acts to where we are told of beievers recieving the Holy Spirit and what happened the moment that they recieved, Acts ch. 2,10,and ch.19. In each occurence, the first thing that happened the moment the believers recieved the Holy Spirit was that they spoke in tongues.

It is important to not confuse descriptive texts in scripture like you highlight in Acts, with prescriptive instructions or principles for living a Christian life like in Ephesians. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; and being subject to one another in the fear of Christ. read.lsbible.org/?q=Ephesians+5%3A18-21 To your point of repetition, not all the verses involving the Holy Spirit describe or prescribe speaking in tongues by new believers (Acts 2:4, 2:37-47, 10:38). The repetition in all of the verses describes confirmation of authority by the Holy Spirit given to the Apostles (and Jesus in 10:38). Which is the purpose of the gifts.

@@KootenaiChurch Thanks for your comments. In regards to your comments. Speaking in "tongues" as the initial evidence that a believer has recieved the Holy Spirit, in Acts ch.2,10,and ch.19, and the born again believers private prayer language doesn't qualify as one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit according to Pauls' descriptition of the purpose of the spiritual gifts( 1Cor.12:7). According to the time honored Law Of Repetitition these examples need only be repeated three times in order to set the precedent, not everytime in scripture that the Holy Spirit is recieved by the believer/ believers.

We have three cases where we see people coming in believing in the lord and our baptized in the Holy Spirit . How did they know they were baptized in the Holy Spirit without them speaking with tongues? Again Paul was filled the spirit but it doesn't say that he spoke with tongues. Manny tried to discount the baptism of the Holy Spirit or doing ministry with the company signs. Saying that this part of Mark is not in the original so we don't except us. However if you go to first Corinthians chapter 2. Paul has come to Corinth after being in Athens. In Athens Paul tried to preach about Jesus Christ in the resurrection using philosophical and human reasoning to try to win over converts. He even quotes a pagan philosopher Aratus . You will notice that only if you were saved there. Now he comes to Corinth. And he says that he would not come with flowery or eloquent speech of human reasoning but he would preach Jesus Christ and him crucified in the power and demonstration of the Holy Spirit. Signs and wonders are what he's talking about. Hope that helps

Don't believe for a second that people were baptized with water as a symbol. The demons wouldn't be able to be cast out of them without repentance. That is why and how John prepared the way for the LORD,.

Costi! I'm shocked that you would teach a false Gospel. Christ did NOT come to save repentant sinners but ALL sinners before they could repent!!!

WDYD! I'm shocked you would take that out of context and accuse a faithful pastor of a false gospel. You need to be thoughtful of the Gospel yourself. Gospel means good news! The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel." For more information recommend read.lsbible.org/?q=john+1

Now after John had been delivered up into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” - Mark 1:14-15

John 6:47 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. John 6:44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day. Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; Acts 16:31 They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” John 20:31 but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name. There are more but I think you get the point, nothing about repentance. Is the Bible a contradiction? @@KootenaiChurch

@@WDYD What I don't understand is why you only seem to accept some verses from the Bible, but not others. How do decide which ones you accept and which ones you do not accept? You seem to accept only verses about being saved that don't talk about repentance, but you do not want to mention verses about being saved that do talk about repentance. You are re-writing the Bible by picking and choosing what you want to accept. When you do this you are choosing the verses that line up with the view that you want to have and rejecting all the other verses. However, God is the inspiration for all verses in scripture. By rejecting the verses about repentance you are saying that your perspective is much more important than God's perspective. You are making yourself to be God. Also, there are several English definitions for the word "believe". You need to get a good understanding of what the Biblical view of "believe" means. It does not just mean knowing something is true in your head, but also has a concept of giving yourself to that belief and following in that way. To do that, repentance is necessary. Here are a couple of examples that do talk about repentance: Acts 26: "I did not prove disobedient to the heavenly vision, but continually proclaimed...that they are to repent and turn to God, performing deeds consistent with repentance." You will see here there is the concept of repenting and turning to God. This is the Biblical concept of what true belief is. It includes both repenting (turning away from) and turning to God. You cannot turn to God if you do not turn away from your own ways. 2 Corinthians 7: "For the sorrow that is according to God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death." Here it shows that Godly sorrow produces repentance and repentance leads to salvation. I very much agree with the verses that you posted, but I also agree with the verses that I posted here. You seem to make a comment about accepting both is a contradiction. I see no contradiction here. All these verses are taken together to make one complete concept. It is not a contradiction to accept both. All of these verses are part of God's Word and need to be accepted as the truth.
