In this video I give a simple introduction to recording MIDI in Cubase, (this guide features Cubase Pro 13), describing the differences between Instrument and MIDI tracks, and explaining how MIDI Channels work.

About me:
My name is Anthony Chisnall. I'm a musician & songwriter.
My channel is these things:
1. A place to share my music - both songs and instrumental pieces. Much of the music I write features in...
2. Tutorial videos about music composition and production
3. An outlet for me to discuss all things musical - including technical break-downs of software and tools that I use, as well as more wide-ranging discussions of topics that interest me.
I play the guitar (electric, acoustic, and bass), and record all of my own synth-based sounds myself too, but I can't sing very well (huge understatement!), and so my wife, Pauline, who has a lovely singing voice, has come to my rescue. You'll hear her on all of my songs.
All of my music is written in Steinberg's Cubase (currently Cubase 12).
I try very hard to make my videos PRACTICAL and no-nonsense - if I don't use a feature, I'm not going to waste your time trying to sound like an expert on it! This is the stuff I use day-to-day, so I think that's also what you'd like to hear me talking about.

After watching many videos on getting started in Cubase, this gentleman's tone, information and explanation is the best I have found. Really helped me understand some basics that other's missed. His pacing is also excellent where others rush along because they assume to much of the listener. Thank you for this great series.

Thanks for the feedback. It's not a feature I've ever considered, but I'll look into its feasibility.

Hi Anthony, ( excuse my english ) first thanks for all you post on you tube for us, it is always very complete and understentable. That’s why i’m asking you if you can post a complete tutorial on the faderfpx pc12 controller. I just bought one and there’s almost nothing on it. Just 1 complete you tube video that show what is capable of but not how. This is a very complete device very easy to use when you understand it, i’m pretty shure. Manuel is for geek only….. you’re the best person to explain it. Please

I understand: would you be nice to suggest the best device to control the soft synth and plugins, i have a Keylab with 9 pots and fadder but it's not enough. I'm looking for a device with a lot of pots and fadder if possible. Thanks @@OneManAndHisSongs

Thanks for your amazing videos, Anthony! Would you be interested to cover the topic of The White Noise Blast of Death? It would be quiet assuring if you could show a way to reproduce it and even more importantly how to prevent it! Vi control has several threads about the issue on multiple DAWs including Cubase.

Thank you! I'd never heard of that phenomenon, and have just Googled it - the threads I saw all referred to Logic, but if you say it's happened in Cubase too fair enough. Since I've never experienced it (thankfully) I'm not qualified to speak, and since it's something that can apparently cause real harm I wouldn't want to offer any unqualified advice.

Thank you for the great video. 1 question: when you export (render) those 2 midi tracks (or all 3 track with instr too) into the audio how would you do it. Will you get 1 audio - from instrument or separate 3 tracks from each 2 midi+1instr? Thank's in advance. Jan

You can do pretty much anything you want. There are options that allow you to export 1-for-1, so each track will be rendered individually, or there are Mixdown options in the Export screen that allow you to merge all selected tracks down to a single audio track. Bouncing and Rendering is quite a large topic in its own right, which I do plan to cover.
