In my second major narrative oil painting, I reimagined this iconic South African battle in fierce defence of their land and freedom against British colonialists in the late 19th century. Here I'll take you through both a quick rundown of the battle and a detailed explanation of my painting process. i hope you enjoy, and feel free to leave any questions you might have in the comments.

I love this painting , because Hongkong once occupied by the British , I am a Chinese person , and I hate the British Empire . HongKong was faraway from the UK , Why the British fleet came to this Chinese lands and conquer this city for over 100 years {1841-1997} , if the Chinese fleet come to the British homelands and occupy London as the Chinese city in 2023 , What do you think about it , the British people .

Thanks a lot Sharon :) there was a break in between the two finished versions where I made many other paintings, so it’s that experience that I carried over to make these adjustments. But back-to-back the whole thing from blank canvas to signed painting probably took about 3 months. (“Great narrator”? 😂 wow thank you!)

Hi Clavers, if I have well understood, in the second phase of the painting, you layered acrylic colors over oil colors of the first phase. Is that correct?

Yes I did. When oil paints dry they can hold acrylics just fine and vice-versa. It also helps that I didn’t varnish the painting the first time I “finished” it so I could always adjust it if I wanted to.

@@ClaversOdhiamboArt you did a very great job, congratulations for your expertise! I admire you. As far as acrylic over oil is concerned, it is the first time I see an artist use acrylic over oil. I did the same in the past, but it is commonly said that "over oil only oil". But for me it is fine also acrylic over oil if dried, I do not know if there are consequences as time passes by.

@@RenatoBaietta nope, no consequences as far as I know. There is a painting did this to 8 years ago and when I saw it last year it was in perfect condition. As long ad the oil wasn’t varnished, acrylic will stick on it as it would your primer. The thickness of your layers could be a factor as well, but I only ever use very thin layers so maybe this only applies to a case such as mine.
