I have So many great memories of GB from the late 80’s & 90’s. I had a deep love for GB. I visited as much as I could, at least 5-6 times a year. I loved the princess country club and even the towers. I visited every shop in the Bazaar. Always went to Taino beach, Xanadu beach, and my favorite was Deadman’s reef. I ate peas & rice and conch everything with a Kalik beer everyday. This is so sad to see. 💔💔💔

We've been through a lot. Since both hurricanes hit Grand Bahama has never been the same. This place has so much potential but politics and greed always at hand.

I recently moved to Freeport from Austin TX to retire. I appreciate the laid-back attitude of the people here even though prices are high and many people still make $7-$8 an hour doing things like working at Kelly's hardware. What I mean by "even though" is that even though their quality of living has been going down with CPIflation, there are no riots, no takeover of government facilities, no cars burning in the streets or people sitting in the streets protesting this or that. While the underground has its shares of hookers and blow, you see neither prostitutes nor drug dealers on the streets (which generally arise when times get tough). There is no LGBTQ+ madness here (although every population has this in the back closet). You do not get to walk around looking like a Satanic demon here. They know that the presence of this is an affront to our Lord and a bad influence on young minds. Freeport feels like the USA felt 30 years ago. While not as much in the younger generation, the population at large still attends the many churches and have faith in Christ (which is almost gone in the USA). You may hear about lots of crime and even murder in "The Bahamas" but what they don't tell you is that 97% of it happens in Nassau and on New Providence where drugs, armed gangs and prostitution are rampant. But you don't just jump in your low rider boat and cruise to Freeport from Nassau. It's 130 files as the crow flies. With fiat currency, those living closest to the source get access to the newly printed money first and thus have the most prosperity (until the fake money system goes bust). Unlike Nassau where the money is printed up and distributed, Freeport has been quite slow on the investment front. But all that means is that you can still find excellent value here. I can't count the number of canal front lots that exist with water, power, cable to them and excellent seawalls on wide, deepwater canals that exist here. 2 years ago you could buy them cheaply, as low as $75k, even in better neighborhoods like Fortune Bay. Prices have gone up to about $150 for a .4 acre waterfront lot in F.B. today but you can still find a beautiful waterfront lot up and down the Grand Lucayan Waterway for $75k or even less. The seawalls were installed in the 1960s and 1970s and are of the highest quality needing zero maintenance for all these decades. Just the seawall on these lots is worth $75-$90k today!! That's what it would cost to put in today.
