The Beach Boys are an American rock band that was formed in Hawthorne, California, in 1961. The group's original lineup consisted of brothers Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. Distinguished by their vocal harmonies, adolescent-oriented lyrics, and musical ingenuity, they are one of the most influential acts of the rock era. They drew on the music of older pop vocal groups, 1950s rock and roll, and black R&B to create their unique sound. Under Brian's direction, they often incorporated classical or jazz elements and unconventional recording techniques in innovative ways.

I stood at the Beach Boys Commemorative Plaque on the side of the 90 freeway where it all began. I was there back in summer of 2000. Their house used to be there. I got there by chance when I was looking to take the 90 Marina Freeway to connect out to Orange, in Orange County to visit my girlfriend at the time. I took a turn that was wrong and missed the onramp. I was pleased and let down all at the same time. LOL ...😀🏝 They say that the Beach Boys were actually living in Hawthorne California...Manhattan Beach is better, ya. I heard Surfing was born in Huntington Beach CA.

Back in the early 60's when I was just a little shaver the Beach Boys were America's band and the Beatles Britain's band. There was a battle of the bands going on between the two. Not so surprisingly the Beatles inevitably won hands down . They were the trendsetters of the British Invasion movement.

Yea imagine being in a band when someone else's father is telling you what to do, and signing publishing deals with his own son to keep the money in the Wilson family and keeping you out of it. Plus working with a bad member whose losing his mind doing drugs and another whose hanging out with Charlie manson. Mike was lead vocalist on most of the earlier big hits, so can't blame him for being screwed around by his cousins and their father. Blood was thicker than water and the Wilsons loved their crazy father, the rest of the band were stuck with him until they all realised he'd had his day and was no longer viable.

What’s revealing about the clip of Murray leaving the recording session is that he was not a big commercial guy. He truly loved music.
@adrinathegreat3095
@adrinathegreat3095 5 ай бұрын
He created the band, taught them all how to sing from an early age and financed them, got them a recording contract and produced there first big hits, creating the beach boys sound, later he co-wrote with Brian a couple of song's. Funny thing is the fans hate him, but the Wilson brothers loved him. Murray was like most fathers from the 50s, strict and often violent towards his family, it's how life was, their was still racial separation during the time they grew up. But America portrayed to the world a kind of well to do middle class happy days scenario, shit was kept in the house, swept under the rug, what went on indoors stayed indoors, very different times

Bob Dylan once said "Don't criticize what you don't understand" - Well, I do it anyway: Brian fled into music out of fear of his strict father - Donny chose to break out of this puritanically mendacious society - Is that how legends are made? - That must be the reason why I didn't get rich - I was always true to myself and my humanity 🔱

14:00 Brian Wilson was before Phil Spector. He created a type of wall of sound because he was deaf in one ear. Phil Spector was after him. The songs he did predate Phil Spector. His dementia is beginning in this documentary. I read a little bio on Brian Wilson and it states that is how he created a stereo effect, was over dubbing his music because he was deaf in one ear. It predates Phil Spector.

27:44 This actually isn’t true! Brian was always present heavily in recording after this period, hell he even went back on stage for a bit in 1967 to promote wild honey, as well as a brief show in 1970 to promote Sunflower which he basically directed 50% of! He even claims ‘Friends’ from 1968 was his second official solo album after pet sounds! Also you guys mixed up annotations with Van Dyke Parks, Mike Love & Tony Asher’s voice overs quite a few times here. (But overall, nice video :))
