Carmie’s inability to make responsible choices for his life is a symptom of his mental illness… anxiety and depression does this to you where you can get really indecisive and what looks like irresponsibility… this season really delves into that aspect of his life

Syd’s not Carmy’s sous atp. Syd was promoted to CDC (Carmy’s previous position) & Syd promoted Tina as her sous. Also, Syd is a partner in this new restaurant with Carmy. But I definitely agree with you. Carmy definitely needs to grow in that area.

I think Eric is absolutely right about Carmy. I was so pissed at him in this episode because not only did he leave Sydney waiting there for him with no communication for an entire hour, but he then made an important decision without keeping her in the loop. they're supposed to be partners and he's proving to her that she can't trust him.

@@nejoudtourki6000 how can you say she doesn't contribute anything to the restaurant when she literally spent an entire day going around *by herself* getting ideas for the new menu, as well as using her connects in the restaurant industry to get ideas for The Bear? she came up with a book full of ideas for the restaurant before they were even thinking about turning it into The Bear and he has already given her the responsibility of a partner by including her on things like hiring, building decisions, permits, whether or not to hire Nat as a project manager, etc…I do agree that on paper, she doesn't have any ownership of the business in writing but she is busting her ass just as much as Carmy is and he is saddling her with the responsibilities of one.

17:20 yeah i think that's looking at it wrong. Sidney should have a say in it because she's Carmy's partner, she isn't his employee. And if he told her she would 100% answer right away. She just wanted to be notified of a big decision because she is as much an owner of the business as he is.

See I think yes she is a partner but the stakes for Carmy are so much higher the restaurant doesn't work out we saw there's a ton of restaurants highering. She even had people offering when she was on her food tour. If the restaurant fails he loses the restaurant that his brother left him. And yea he could also go get a job anywhere but, in my opinion, he loses more than she does if it fails.

I think the issue is more nuanced than "Carmie prioritizing other things above the restaurant", it's about him feeling guilty about doing literally anything that is not related to the restaurant and feeling like that's what He's doing (the episode opens with him saying this). That guilt is what stops him from being honest, first with Claire and then with Sydney. From Sydney's perspective that makes him seem unreliable

to be fair, I think Sydney is a better communicator than Carmy is. she at least will try to communicate to him how she feels. whether or not he hears her isn't on her. should she say how she feels sooner sometimes or be more aggressive about it? maybe. but I'll say that it's probably not easy to do that with someone like Carmy. the whole situation is complex because neither is great at communication, but the one with the most power is the worst at it, which doesn't help.

Carmy: Intentionally makes plans with Sydney, his business partner to gain inspiration for menu ideas, which is for the restaurant. Also Carmy: Bails on said business partner to help a childhood crush he hasn't spoken to in years on a last minute favour. 🤔🤔🤔 "Not prioritising other things over the restaurant."

24:14 Right now it’s fair to interpret his reaction to Claire asking if he’s free as “drama for the sake of drama”; HOWEVER, it’s important and more critically relevant to note that he abandons the list and Syd once Claire specifies that they wouldn’t just be hanging out but that she has a task that needs handled… not only just a task, but it involves unpacking the fallout of the death of her loved one which to Carmy’s perception Claire is handling competently unlike him

Not sure why people acting like Claire can't get a hint when someone give her a fake number, we know it's fake number because we saw it from Carmy's perpestive, from her, they have known each other from childhood, they were close, they met after a while since Carmy move away, they have a good talk, they hit it off, he might gave her a wrong number but it literally only 1 digit is wrong, it could have been a mistake, a lot of people doesn't remember their number. And even with all of that, she still give him a chance to just "cut it off" if he want.

I'm really with aaron on this in re: prioritizing fun / communication. He is so burned out - and no one can say he hasn't devoted himself to this damn place. It's the communication that's the issue. just 2 cents in re: storytelling: I think the Claire set-up is good - for what it is - because they've known each other forever. she knows his whole family. she's friends with Fak. they go way back. she knew Mikey. etc. I think if "they" i.e. the writers - had made her just some random woman he chatted up at the grocery store - it wouldn't have the pull that it does, on him or us. so she's new - as in a love interest - and he's never had a love interest in his life (hence: his inability to handle it. at all) - but she's ALSO familiar - and that feels safe for him. I get that people get irritated that she's "making him" lose focus - but he keeps saying (and he just said at the top of this episode) that he wishes he could have more enjoyment in his life. so - as messy as he is - he's trying to do just that. and of course doing it messily because he has literally never prioritized anything above work in his life. He's never even had a girlfriend. I don't think he could ever say in a calm way "I can't right now, can we go out this weekend?" He is completely inexperienced and he wants her so bad. he's like Tina making the potatoes in a new way in season 1. he's awkward and bad at managing it at first. also him giving her a fake number - I mean, he obviously wants her to have it, he just panicked - and I get the sense that this particular group of people - the Faks, the Berzatos, and yes, Claire - have a familiarity with each other so her being like "fak, tell me his number again? the one you gave me doesn't work" - makes sense to me. This is why I think it was smart to make her an extended part of that close-knit group - she's already in Carmy's very very small circle of people he knows from before he was a chef. Smart storytelling. Season 2 is all about everyone coming out of their comfort zones - and that includes Carmy. Oh and I completely get why Sydney is upset at him! Totally valid! But first love is not known for making you behave in a sane or responsible manner lol

I think Sydney has the right to be concerned but I also think Sydney has agency to walk away. It is HIS place. She sees the circumstances. Carmy has growing to do through his trauma and doesn't communicate well but he is in a process. So expectations on him are more projections of her idealism of him in her head. When people show you who they are. Believe them. She has a choice.

I was always kind of creeped out by the fake number scene, particularly the fact that Fak just gave Claire Carmy's real number behind his back like that. I know this was supposed to be both this cute moment of Claire probably being "the One" for him and also another sign of Carmy just sabotaging himself and pushing away a good thing, which he's not supposed to do. Still, I just can't help but feel like that was an invasion of privacy and a violation of Carmy's consent. I know if that happened to me, I wouldn't be happy about it lol. Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is an overreaction and that that's not the feeling I was SUPPOSED to get from that scene, but idk, I guess it just didn't sit well with me. 🫤

It's a mutual friend giving someone a phone number in an age where you can literally find out where someone lives by just googling. I don't know what's creepy
@BeatleScorpion1
@BeatleScorpion1 Ай бұрын
@kdot89 Sure, but Carmy giving her a fake number is meant to be a sign that he didn't want her to have his number, at least at that specific moment in time. Now, it's arguable whether or not that in itself was the right thing for him to do, but he clearly wasn't comfortable with her having it for whatever reason. So, Fak just giving her his number without consulting him about it first does feel kind of invasive to me.
@CJB02
@CJB02 Ай бұрын
@@BeatleScorpion1 You can argue that it's wrong but I don't really think it's "creepy" in any way lmao. Fak probably assumed that Carmy had given Claire the wrong number by accident, especially since he likely knows that Carmy has always liked Claire. Claire also genuinely didn't know if he had done it on purpose or not, because they have known each other since childhood and were clearly more familiar with each other when they were younger so it being an accident would seem more likely to most people.
@BeatleScorpion1
@BeatleScorpion1 Ай бұрын
@CJB02 Okay, now I feel like we're starting to argue semantics here. I didn't say this was creepy, I said I was creeped out, aka uncomfortable, over what I perceive to be a violation of boundaries. Unless he somehow forgot his own cellphone number, Carmy giving Claire the wrong number by accident doesn't make much sense. Fak knows about Carmy's issues, both with his family and his mental health. He'd have every reason to assume that Carmy giving Claire the fake number is him intentionally trying to push her away, and him giving her Carmy's real number is most likely his well-intentioned (albeit misguided) attempt at giving Carmy happiness. Regardless, though, that still was an invasion of Carmy's privacy, and that's what makes me uncomfortable. I'm not saying that Fak is a bad person or anything like that, but it does introduce a degree of complexity to this subplot, that this relationship is not as straightforwardly wholesome as others seem to perceive it.
@barryaran6147
@barryaran6147 Ай бұрын
I feel like you're reading too much into it. We don't know what the conversation between Claire and Fak looked like. We don't know if she told him that he gave her a fake number. She probably wasn't too sure herself, since she asks Carmy about it and seemingly doesn't push too much against his excuse about it just being "a mistake". And even if Fak was told that Carmy gave her a wrong number, I don't think he knows Carmy deeply enough to the point where he would easily assume that he's pushing her away. Carmy says that Fak is probably his best friend, but he denies it at first because they're not close enough to feel like "best friends", it's just that he's one of his only friends. For all we know, Claire just asked Fak for Carmy's number, and Fak gave it to her because he knows that they have positive history together.
