But what is “a false model frame ending up as a plain diatonic” supposed to mean even? Did someone garble that? Was the reviewer putting us on? Whether it’s modal or tonal, it still uses the diatonic scale. “Diatonic” isn’t synonymous with “major”. It doesn’t require a particular tonal center.

People only ever compare them with one direction which is a band marketed to pre teens instead of the Beatles late teen to young adult audience. Jesus... they were truly a trainwreck, in all aspects. That's why I hate hearing people say they were sugarcoated baby boyband. They were ahead of the curve in every interview. Witty and sarcastic without being pricks, very smart, in-your-face-answers, never held back and unafraid of media. The same attitude is shown in their music. Some other bands considered "bad boys" didn't came up with answers like this.

“What set The Beatles apart for me, what turned me onto them, wasn’t their music. Because they didn’t show any evidence, when I first met them, of being able to write truly great songs. The best they could give me was ‘Love Me Do,’ No, it was their sense of humor. It was their charm, they had a kind of charisma that you felt good being with them. And I thought, ‘Well, if they have this effect on me, they’re going to have that effect on the rest of the world.” -George Martin

Even back then, "Love Me Do" was far from their best song. All the other original compositions on their first album are better written than it. I still enjoy "Love Me Do" but as far as crafting goes, it's one of their worst written songs. So I don't know why George Martin would have said it was the best they could give.
