Although everybody goes on about the importance of the Sgt Pepper album (which is great), Revolver is, in my view, their best. George wrote this song, as well as singing lead.

I think you have something there in the Indian-tinged flavor to this song. First is the closing backing vocals, sounding somewhat Indian inspired. Then George's guitar riff, the signature of the song. It definitely has an exotic sound to it. And I love the "wrong note" played on the piano; the whole song works agains that note! Brilliant composition!

George within the Beatles as a composer is definitely a compelling story! This song has so many little things going on in it sonically it's striking-it just gets your attention! For me the first song that George wrote that finally achieved parity with Lennon and McCartney for songwriting is this one. This is a solid, classic Beatles song.

Wow, Philip, you are blowing me away! Just looked up on the internet who was playing piano on this track for the Beatles, and this is what comes up: "McCartney. After reduction on the four-track master tape, their performance consisted of Harrison on lead guitar, treated with a Leslie (organ amp of the time with rotating speakers) effect, McCartney on piano and Ringo Starr on drums, with Lennon adding tambourine." Wasn't sure of the credits of who performed what on this song; nice to learn the story behind the song!

I definitely agree that I can hear Indian influences in this song; however, instruments associated with Indian music, such as the sitar (already used by this time in the Beatles song "Norwegian Wood") and the tabla are absent from this recording. Despite the Indian feel of the song, the arrangement is a standard rock-band arrangement. Makes for an interesting hybrid.
