@@MrTommytuna But John was also never satisfied with the arrangement. And I can understand why. The song was too delicate to give it a traditional guitar-bass-drums-keyboard arrangement (which you can hear in the Let It Be movie). But the boys didn't take the time to give it the "Because" treatment. Pity. Still a nice song, tho'.

The genius of John Lennon and producer George Martin. John was inspired to write this when he heard his wife Yoko playing Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. He asked her to play the chords backwards and wrote the lyrics. "The lyrics speak for themselves.... no imagery, no obscure meanings," Lennon said about the song. As for the sound, Lennon, McCartney and Harrison recorded their three vocals three times, creating a nine-voice recording, with Harrison adding a Moog Synthesizer, Martin playing the intro on electronic harpsichord and Lennon mimicking the same part on guitar. It took five hours to record, and when it was done it ended up being the members favorite song on the Abbey Road album.

I've called attention to this song several times; but because most "reactors" are looking for "bangers" they flit from one thing to another without making any effort to actually LISTEN. This song is astonishingly beautiful. And the lyric is John's achieved minimalism. Another instance is his "I Want You (She's So Heavy)"; and that is majestic.

I got the album, Meet the Beatles, for Christmas in 1963. I was thirteen. The iconic Robert Freeman photograph of the group in half-shadow was very mysterious to me. Who are these guys? They became the most influential quartet in the history of music. The blend of their voices in harmony was unparalleled. Here in 2024, they continue to gain new fans with their eclectic songs. Harrison once said, " The Beatles will exist without us. " Truer words were never spoken.

I was born in 1965, my older brothers were 13 years and eight years older than me. Some of my earliest memories are attached to Beatles music and no matter how many times in my life I hear the songs, Penny Lane and hello, goodbye especially, something in my brain spirals back in time and for a moment I know what it feels like to be 4 years old. Now that is a trip. So inevitably whenever I hear the Beatles, mostly what I get from it is comfort, safety and innocence and all is right with my world.

All of the groups have had extremely accomplished musicians and singers doing the work. Their catalogue of songs, musical variety, and inventiveness is unmatched, and with the popular noise we have to listen to on the radio today, Beatles music will always shine above the rest. I believe they were born to rock the world. The first time I heard Beatles (From me to you) at 13, in1963, I became a Beatlemaniac. I liked songs by George, Paul, and John, but, John was my favorite because his songs were from the heart and had a distinct edge to them. Mind expanding lyrics and haunting melodies. I am a Beatles fan forever. As far as I can tell, the 60's was the best decade to grow up in. The cultural changes and excitement were unsurpassed. When we are all gone, I will listen to the Fab Four in Heaven!

I grew up with the Beatles and turned 10 in 1964 when they "invaded" America. I agree with you, the 60s was the best as we transformed the world with our music. I just turned 70. I have an older brother and sister, so I was in the loop, much younger than I may have otherwise been if I had been an only child. I feel blessed to be a Boomer. My husband is a War Baby, and together, we took the planet from the most devastating war we had ever seen to this miraculous vision of PEACE. It took all of us to support and propel the energy of our visionaries and artists to plant a seed and make it grow and spread across the planet. IMHO, we people of this Earth need to start channeling that energy again or perish. Thanks, younger generations, for listening to our legacy, reviving it, and giving it the level of appreciation it deserves.

George talked about how difficult it was to get those harmonies down, even after all those years of playing and harmonizing together. If you try singing each part, it's REALLY tricky. And a very cool chord progression that John came up with after listening to something by Beethoven. He tried to play what he'd heard 'backwards' and came up with those chords. One of their best, but they had a lot of 'bests'! One of my favorites by them with three part harmony is 'This Boy', and there's a really great middle section where John just belts it out. Another of my favorites by them that most people don't know is 'I Don't Want To Spoil The Party'. It has a really cool intro/outro riff and the vocals are just so good (like most of their songs). I like recommending songs that aren't your typical ones, that people might not be familiar with. 'Dear Prudence' is fantastic, but a bit more 'known'.

This was from 1969. Going for live performances wouldn't be a good tactic with the Beatles because they quit touring in 1966, half way through their recording career. One reason for this was the "Beatlemania" phenomenon of audiences packed with girls screaming so loud they drowned out the sound of the band which would ruin the recording, and make it impossible for the band members to hear each other. The 1966 amplification systems in stadiums couldn't compete with the noise. After they quit touring they could use the studio to create music they couldn't reproduce live anyway, and they were groundbreaking in their use of studio techniques.

@@patticrichton1135 I still think that since she isn't familiar with their music at all, she would get the best first impression of what they had to offer by checking out the music on their albums first. This would include the music they made in the studio during the second half of their history, and maybe some live performances of their earlier stuff after. I think they progressed as musicians and songwriters after 1966 (I was 17), and I wouldn't want her to base her main impression of the group's output on the early years. That's why I like to follow people online who discover them by seeing their progression as they listen chronologically. Maybe when you hear the live recordings you can almost relive your teenage experiences and all of the excitement of the situation - but they wouldn't have the same effect on her, because she wasn't there.

New to your channel and I just subscribed after watching your reaction to this. I was a kid when the Beatles grew up and I'm a musician of many decades, and it's just fascinating to watch people discover them. I mean really discover them. I don't know how many times I've heard this Beatles song Because throughout my lifetime, but every single time I listen to it, I'm just blown away by the haunting beauty of it, and it's so lush, and yet there's so much anguish in it as well. It's just absolutely poignant. They had a huge catalog for only being around for a decade, and they evolved so much but they were always fascinating for the time that they were in. I've heard everything in their catalog multiple times, and the vast majority of them, including some of their really early stuff many many times. Something I thought of while watching your reaction was from a few years earlier, and it was definitely a hit but I'm not sure most people think of it right off the bat, and it is called Rain. Even though it was slightly earlier, you can see this tendency to include all these vocal intervals and arrangements and textures and feeling and playing with the perceived tempo of it, and it's really fascinating. For some reason, I always think of Paperback Writer when I think of Rain. And I've played them back-to-back so many times and I've heard them back-to-back on the radio before.

Because the world is ROUND it TURNS me on Because the sky is BLUE it makes me SAD Because the WIND is high it BLOWS my mind Such a simple play on words but yet so profound. Like so many Beatles songs. Especially John. John could take today's newspaper or an old play bill and turn them into songs with meaning and emotion. He could even do it with gibberish. I was on leave from Vietnam in late November 1969 in Sydney, Australia, when Abby Road came out. I went with a beautiful young woman to her room and listened to it at night. "Because" took me away from the world for a while... and that was enough. It reminded me that beauty STILL existed in the world, if only for one night in Australia. 54 years later, it still takes me to that place of beauty. Thank you....

Using text to comment rather than interrupting the music - brilliant! Why don't more reactors do this? I'm impressed. A tip for exploring the magic of the Beatles: go to the original albums, not the greatest hits rehashes and compilations. They were incredibly inventive in the studio, with their secret weapon George Martin, and set the bar high through the mid to late 60s. They experimented a lot so chances are for every song you think 'meh', the next one will send you to musical heaven. Bon voyage, ma'am.

I was lucky to be in the 60's, 'Jimmy Powell Blues Band' ; we arrived on the Monday May 9th-lunchtime, just as the Beatles left, ( All bands played one hour on stage, one hour off, then another hour on stage, and so on, alternating with another band, from 6:0 pm at night thro' till 6:0 pm in the morning _ 6 hours ). That was the' Top Ten Night Club', Hamburg in the 60's...no excuses, just absolutely gruelling- & unremitting , quite insane really but we did it, yet it honed & crafted everyone who played there. This Beatles Classic came out 5 years later 1969 ,on the Abbey Road LP...I have heard many versions, for all kinds of Combo's, & yet for me the Original Beatles vocal version is still the best..so ethereal, & 'exactly' how John & Paul wanted ; what incredibly talented musicians they were, but ;- The long hours all thro' the night, every night, week after week, after week, far from home, with no-one but your close pals- this is what made the Beatles, sheer good hard working habits...and I know this for real, and absolutely and for sure. I was there !!

Here you are listening to a unique phenomena - a Band - + a Recording Studio - + a producer - a team on engineers - all of whom have been together for an extended period - many years - who have expanded - who have learned - and all of whom who have contributed....... This is not common, nor is it commonplace - it is 'Special' - extra special...

From the album Abbey Road. It’s listening to these lesser known tracks, that you realise the true depth of the Beatles music and its high levels of quality. Sgt Pepper for me is their finest album…very different to their earlier work around the mid 60’s. Some say that The Beatles were the template for the future of music. Sabina..glad you liked this, a lesser known track that is well worth highlighting.

That was beautiful, I'm totally subscribing. The Beatles have so many types of songs, entire genres can be traced back to single Beatle songs. The very next song on this album is fantastic, "You Never Give Me Your Money". Every song flows so great into the next one that as soon as I hear one song, I just automatically want to hear the next one! This was at the very end of the career, their last album. John Lennon wrote this song. He sang it with Paul McCartney and George Harrison. Reportedly, Ringo Starr (the 4th Beatle) was standing right next to them, even though he wasn't singing.

"trippy" is the perfect word to describe this beautiful song. as is "hypnotic" and "mystical." this is the 2nd song of side 2 of abbey road that follows "here comes the sun" and is followed by the mini-opera that closes the rest of the album. the beatles were just at the top of the game. they kept their music fresh, fun and interesting. one way they did this is by providing surprise or false endings to some of the songs. "rain," "strawberry fields forever" and "helter skelter" are examples of this unique feature of theirs. on the "abbey road" album they added a strange and false ending to each album side. the beatles were full of surprises and they had the talent to make those surprises work so effectively. its just shocking how really, really consistently good they were. thanks for the video.

Your Reactions make 100% Sense. I'm a 74 year old Swedish man and The Beatles were my "Guitar Teachers" from October 1963, (and forever onwards ...), when they played Live in Swedish TV. What a Music Bomb of Exitement, Joy, Love and Humour that show was. The Beatles still to this day are the main inspiration for my Guitar Playing and some of their songs still hold their Musical secrets no matter how concentrated I listen through my Headphones with my Gibson J45 in my hands. Enough of Me now ... Your reactions Sabina send shivers through me also, a double Joy of seeing that The Genius of Beatle's Music was Not an illusion among us 60:s Youngsters but a True Force of Love and Joy given to anyone who listens for real. And Thank You for texting on the Screen Your inner feelings and Thoughts, letting us enjoy "Because" uninterupted. Your video as a Whole is in some kind of Master Class, Honestly. I don't know if You already also have reacted to "The Sun King", another Masterpiece in kind of the same Emotional Realm as "Because". If Not - please react to that too. Thanks from Stockholm, Sweden ... And, By the Way: That October 1963 TV-Show was the first Beatles Tv-Show recorded Outside of Great Britain, much because of two Young Swedish TV-journalists Claes Burling and Kersti Adams Ray. They had met The Beatles half a Year earlier in England and gave them a hopeful invitation to Sweden, which became a Reality 30 October 1963 in the pop show "Drop In".
