Such a strange and still wonderful album. At times, it feels like Paul Mccartney's solo album, yet, Across the universe and Don't let me down are some of Lennon's best. An Oscar winner with three American number one singles and yet not considered a masterpiece. Only the Beatles.

Instant Karma was and is a brilliant solo single. It really looked like John Lennon would be a major force in the 1970s. Unfortunately, it was a false dawn. As enjoyable as several of his solo albums were, after his first two LPs John never came close to those heights of 1970 and 1971 again.
