Not overrated at all. Just endlessly fascinating. At their very least, they are the influences of everything that still holds up, and will, for a very long time...

The thing that amazes me about this group is that they did all this in 7 years (1963 - 70) 220+ songs in 84 months and 20 number one hits, I mean that's mindboggling.

You will evolve as a listener too, kid. Keep listening to the Beatles and come back in 30 years and re-watch your video. You'll get a kick out of it. You have the disadvantage of hearing these songs way after they revolutionized every genre of music that came after them. They're way more significant than you realize. They are not in any way overrated.

Dude! "Please, Please Me" has AMAZING harmonies!

There is one thing I have never learned to understand. All the people talk about Norwegian Wood, In My Life, And I Love Her, Yesterday and others. But nobody talks about the incredible song called Girl from Rubber Soul. That song is not only underrated, it is just probably one of the best songs ever written in history. Note the harmony in it, the melody... Just unbelievable. To me it will remain as an enigma why people do not want to pay attention to it.

To say The Beatles are overrated is what certain clueless non musicians occasionally say. The fact is The Beatles are still popular after all this time and their popularity has shown no sign of receding! Why is this...well it's simply because their songs are just that good! Their catalogue of achievements is simply staggering and they did this all in all about 8yrs which to this day noone has come close to. As a musician I listen to them most days simply because I am lost for words at how stunningly complex and simple their songs utilising many musical devices that they simply shouldn't of known about yet they used them to the poignant powerful effect and devices are all over their sublimely crafted music. The Beatles are actually ''underrated'' because music education was taken out from school curriculum eventually and almost altogether and without this mindless act students of the west would appreciate the beauty of the Beatles music.

Being an old fart that grew up with The Beatles' music as the soundtrack to his life I very much enjoyed your very thoughtful rundown of their albums. It gives me great hope that future generations yet born will "get" what The Beatles did for pop music and culture.

The Beatles were like masters in their genre. Most artists are flash in the pan, remember them for a little while, but history will ignore them. The Beatles will be remembered for centuries like Beethoven and Mozart. I am just so happy that I lived during the time when they were alive and putting out new material. It would be like being alive when Michelangelo was painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. It will br remembered for eternity, but we actually got to witness its creation.

You forgot to mention they recorded Please Please Me in a single day.

I think “you never give me your money” doesn’t get enough praise for how adventurous it is. And starts off the second side of abbey road so well...

Glad you show the love for "Good Night". It's often overlooked but it's a beautiful tune and Ringo's voice suits it perfectly.

Sgt. Pepper might not be the best album made but its the most influential. It changed how records were made and sold. It made everything before it become instantly dated. It transformed the idea of what a pop album was supposed to do or be.

You should do a retrospective of John lennons solo career. Not much was released but it's damn good. Especially his first two albums. Imagine is one of my favorite albums ever. I can put it on front to back and not skip a single track

Ringo's drumming on tomorrow never knows was used on setting sun by the chemical brothers. Tomorrow never knows sounds as if it was made in the 90s it's so far ahead of its time.

Actually, fun fact: that heavy 'guitar' in Think For Yourself, is actually Paul introducing his brand new Rickenbacker Bass by hooking it to a fuzz pedal. If you listen carefully, you can tell it's a bass the way it's played. It blew my mind too

During the two weeks prior to public release, the entire "The Beatles" LP was played, every night, commercial-free, one side after the other, with the DJ only introducing the next side by number, on my city's FM station. And during the weekend it was all-"Beatles" all the time.

Call me a beatles fan girl but I totally love all of their early stuff even though I understand its not as amazing as their stuff after the early days. The Corn factor honestly makes me bubbly and happy

The Beatles recorded the Please please me Album, it was recorded in 10 hours, the entire album in 10 hours!!!

I rather think Norwegian Wood was a song about a girl Lennon DIDN'T have an affair with! (Although he hoped he was going to, of course..) The 'So, I lit a fire' line was always a deliciously ambiguous ending, with so many possible meanings.

You never commented on "Because" from Abbey Road.

PS. You might not know that Paul wrote 'When I'm 64' when he was about 15.....So the opposite of a 'progression' .

One should take into consideration, when analyzing The Beatles' first two albums...The Beatles were new. Their sound was new. No one else had really ever done anything like them before. There really wasn't anything to compare them to. Granted...we already had Elvis, and many blues artists. But the notion of pop music...really came into its own with The Beatles' first two albums. 'All My Loving', is quintessential pop. And a it stands, even in todays market as quality, and true beauty. 👍☀️👍 Just sayin', 😎 Great review work. You did a fantastic job.

You didn't grow up with "The Beatles," so under-appreciate their first LP. It was not only the equal of everything else there was, but also was ahead of the "market".

Finally someone that acknowledges that pepper is a loose concept album. I got in an argument with someone that said it’s not in anyway a concept album. Their argument was that none of the songs are directly connected and didn’t have a story. But they’re connected in that they are all supposed to be songs written and performed by the fictional band. Maybe not a full on concept album but still it kinda is

I loved your exuberant review of Eleanor Rigby, Paul was 23 when it was released, a story way beyond the experience of most 23 year olds. Yesterday, as I get older it feels like a lament after a long relationship- 20 years or more & again written whilst Paul was in his 20’s - they all were in their 20’s. Yes their early stuff was pure Pop but they were kids. Having experienced loss at such young ages & the extreme austerity of post ww2 possibly accounts for this wisdom. We North Americans never suffered like they did certainly through the war but even after. They had 20 #1 his here only 17 in the UK, some think it’s due to all the other greats that became the “British Invasion”, I wonder if the fact we had more $$$ to spend might have been an issue. I was 5 when they appeared on Ed Sullivan so they have been part of the sound track of my life.

Bravo! Great job. I'm a second-generation Beatle fan, born around when they broke up. I caught wind of them through their solo stuff in the 70s and became a fan at the age of 11 in 1979 when Paul released Back To The Egg and George released his self-titled set. Unfortunately, I caught on to the Beatles trip just a John was murdered so that left a lasting impression on me, as well. Cheers. You made a great video.

To start it this way: I usually dislike "Kids" (sorry man, just for the comparism) explaining The Beatles to me - as it obviously should be the other way round! But watching this with growing pleasure I have to admit: Very, very well done! I really like the way you showed, that each album was richer than the one before, I really was stunned by some brilliant anyalyses, but what I really loved was the passion you threw in! I like this review. Enthusiastic and clear appreciation with a musical understanding. Sequenced and the editing keeps us moving. I don't know too many bands who were as consistent as The Beatles and classically trained producer George Martin understood what worked best before witnessing their incredible advancement that changed the recording process for everyone. As many of you will know the first Beatles album was recorded live on two-track. Apparently for this 10-12 hour recording session, George Martin decided ask them to set up as on stage and set microphones, levels and acoustic baffles as appropriate. July 1964 brings us A Hard Day's Night and the third album, the sink or swim stage. Studio advancement and four-track recording enables delayed options with more space to work with and better vocal and instrument blending. This is evident on the finished warmer recordings than previous. They still sound very good today but then Abbey Road Studios were built to get the best sound possible before more advanced machines were used for 'recorded treatment'. In 1966 readings tell us that John Lennon wanted the tracks on Revolver to flow together on each side but EMI wouldn't have it. Further readings tell us that Beach Boy Brain Wilson has always been astounded that the advanced and for the time complex Sgt. Pepper album (1967) was recorded on four-track. Much credit here to George Martin and his engineers. Some eight-track recording was used on the following The Beatles double album (1968) which also had a chosen dry mix compared to the year before with much production stripped back. 1969 sees Abbey Road Studios take delivery of a transistorised recording console compared to valve circuits which gave the September release Abbey Road album a more lush sound on the final mix. "The Beatles came along at the right time. They didn't choose that time. Somebody chose it for them." - George Martin. Thank you for posting your enjoyable video. Liked/added.

please don't listen to 'please please me' as a first album - it makes more sense to look at it retrospectively as precedent to their later work - in some respects their first two albums are their best in terms of an emotional listening experience - go on, give it a try

'Abbey 'F'n' Road' is the GREATEST album I have ever heard, and I'm 57!

Given you weren’t alive to experience Beatlemania you present with the excitement and energy as if you were. Kudos! Their impact will never be replicated.

Great review, brought with infectious enthusiasm! But a few great songs went uncommented on: Paperback Writer and Rain - the A and B sides of a single released early in 1966, both VERY good. I’m Only Sleeping - a wonderfully strange, dreamy and humorous song on Revolver (1966). Lady Madonna and The Inner Light - again only released on single, in early 1968. Hey Jude - released on single with the rougher version of Revolution, later in 1968. The Ballad Of John And Yoko and Don’t Let Me Down - released on single in 1969. Because - one of the absolute highlights on Abbey Road album. You Know My Name (Look Up The Number) - the B side of the Let It Be single, released in 1970. It’s mad, but displays their musical versatility and is always fun listening to. They started work on it in 1967.

I enjoyed your reviews. You cover a period of I awaited the arrival of each of these albums. To give a personal perspective of the time, I graduated h.s. in 1967.

I always thought that abbey road was their greatest work, which is really impressive. Not many bands ever end on their highest note.

Aware this review is now some 2 years old but I really really liked your overview of the works of the Beatles. You reflected my feelings of the albums almost verbatim. I am glad I have heard an opinion from someone who values Revolver and revolution Number 9 as highly as I have done for many years.

For me, revolver is the clear choice for the best album by the band. All 4 members firing on all cylinders and completely engaged with each other. Last time Lennon truly cared about a Beatles album. George coming into his own as a writer. Ringo playing some of the best fills of his career. And of course Paul’s contributions are other worldly.

Great video, this may be an unpopular opinion but carry that weight is criminally underrated in the ending to the album and the medley as a whole. When ever that song comes on the volume goes straight to max. So powerful and gorgeous

Excellent video. Your knowledge and enthusiasm for the material makes this review a joy to watch. Of course no two people are going to have the same opinion of the Beatle songs. But you make a great case for each song you like and the few you don’t. I have a bit more love for the early Beatles than you, but a lot of my opinion of those songs are nostalgia driven. They take me back to my childhood playing “with the Beatles” and “hard days night” on Friday nights with my parents and sisters. Anyway, great job on the review. I assume you have more reviews, and I will be checking them out.

This is an impressive set of reviews. I don't say that lightly, having been a massive Beatle fan since 1985. You sum up each album very well indeed, though I don't agree with many of your comments about the early albums nor Let it Be, but hey your opinion and my opinion are just that, opinion! That said, you totally nail it on Rubber Soul, Revolver, Pepper, white album, M Mystery Tour, Abbey Rd . Even your comments on the various songs on Please Please Me, With the Beatles & Let it Be are well placed. Your rating for each album is spot on, though I'd rate Let it Be a bit higher and Beatles For Sale & Help a tad lower. I am very impressed by your knowledge and appreciation of The Beatles. You ought to do something similar for their singles, which would give you a chance to review She Loves You, We Can Work it Out, Strawberry Fields, Lady Madonna, Hey Jude and Ballad of John & Yoko.

You have to put yourself in the place that people were in when the The Beatles hit the scene. Then you will totally understand that they were groundbreaking. My mom had me at 17. She gave me the Beatles first album that she bought at 14. To this day, it's the best album ever.

For me, 'Hard Day's Night' is the album to play to an alien who asks 'What is this thing called Popular Music?' - this is the album to play to the curious alien - there's not one duff moment! I happen to adore 'Revolution 9', especially the use of the last two unison notes of Sibelius Symphony 7 (used 13 times, I counted!). I know I'm in a minority, but I don't care! Thank you for a fascinating and well-presented run-down.

I disagree with the first two albums. In my opinion please please Is a great first album for a band. Sure it’s not an masterpiece. But it does capture the simple area of the Beatles when there songs were just simple love songs and just fun.

Please please me is a fantastic record for it’s time... But you have the right to dislike it or should I say misunderstanding it ;)

I Am the Walrus is the only song on this album on my list of 13 or so favorite Beatles songs. Good choice on your part!

Something i learned about Help! recently was how Wait (from Rubber Soul) was written during Help but was scrapped for Dizzy Miss Lizzy (probably didnt have time to finish it). Completely agree about Dizzy Miss Lizzy though, it completey changes the mood

Dude, the Beatles first number 1 single in America was I Want To Hold Your Hand, not Love Me Do. Everyone knows that!!

It is useful and enjoyable to hear the perspective of new generations about the Beatles. I agree about "Beatles for Sale" containing the roots of Rubber Soul, but the best examples for me would be "Every little thing" and "What you're doing" rather than the favorites chosen here.

Never disagreed with you more than about I Me Mine, which is on my list of 13 or so greatest Beatles songs, along with Let it Be's I've Got a Feeling. I realise the latter choice is a particularly eccentric 1.

"Magical Mystery Tour" was a double EP in England. The LP originated in the US, to include 45s that hadn't otherwise been included on US LPs.
