Hey Beatles Fans come join me in a comparison of a 1971 pressing from France and Giles Martin's 2020 Revolver remaster. In this case it is a ripped CD to Flac 16bit 44kHz file. It's all about the sound-stage and imaging with this one. Lots of fun and some toe tapping.

Great video. The deluxe vinyl box includes a mono version of the album, pressed in analogue mode, half speed mastered. Is the gem on that box.

I haven't listened to the mono on the CD that came with my set yet. Not really anyway. I'll have to give it a go this week. Thanks.

The 2009 digital remakes were remasters. This digital version by Giles Martin is a REMIX.

Does this guy understand the difference between a remix and a remaster? It sure doesn’t sound like it. I’m glad you have passion for the music and these sorts of comparisons, but many, many times when you said remaster you were talking about a remix (that of course would have to be mastered).

A remix is not a remaster. Every mix has to be mastered, but it's not equal to a remaster of the original 1966 stereo mix. To compare the two doesn't really show much of anything.

Cool. I have found the atmos mix is the way to listen to the Giles stuff. I down mix the atmos to stereo and it is not nearly as compressed and better than the vinyl.

I'm not a purist but after having and comparing many of the original LP Beatles albums in Mono/Stereo to Modern Beatle LPs and CDs/Hi-res Flacs I prefer the Originals LPs from UK and German 60s-70s Pressings. I Think They have the most dynamic and full sound I also like some Japan Pressing from the 70s. I do enjoy the Giles mixes but they are a secondary choice for me and I prefer Hi-res flacs for earphones the LPs don't sound the same on earphones as they do on good speakers. cheers.

The 1973 Apple German Sgt Pepper is my go-to copy. The frequency response is the most true-to-tape-source I've ever found, and the dynamics are terrific. My only complaint is that it's not the most detailed presentation. a 1978 UK vinyl copy has more detail but has worse dynamics and more obvious EQ.

@@thomosburn8740 I have the Netherlands 5C 062-04177 1979 which sound like the German 1C 072-04177 (1977) I was able to get the Netherlands in mint so that's my go to copy in my opinion its slightly better than the 1978 UK. Most of the Dutch/German 70s Beatles LPs are great. Cheers!

What exactly is the point here? You’re comparing two records from entirely different mixes. They are not remastered in 2022, it is remix from the ground up, from the multi tracks, which have been further separated into individual instruments from there using MAL. (edit, add:) Even further you're comparing vinyl (and all the coloration of your cartridge and phono preamp) to a CD! A much smarter test IMO would have been the 2012 stereo vinyl (cut from the original mix, albeit digital) and your 1971 French pressing.

It's not remastered. It's remixed. Completely different concept. An "audiophile" should understand that.

@@charlyW34 Remastered just means they took the same "master" 2-track/stereo mix used on the preceding releases and, in the case of vinyl, made a whole new vinyl master from which all "remastered" copies are made (ostensibly with better sound), or in the case of digital remastering, just audio software tweaking. Remixing means they went back to the original multi-track tapes and rebuilt a brand new mix from the ground up. In the case of these recent Beatles remixes, it means a bit more than that, since for all the ones from Sgt Pepper 2017 on, AI "machine learning" has been used to create new multitracks from bounced-down mixes, so we can hear stuff that it was literally never possible to hear before.

@@nazfrdeHi. If you knew me, I would be ticked off that you somehow think I don't know those differences. However, since you must not have read my first post in the thread which pretty much stated everything you did, you must have thought I was referring to myself in my second post. I MEANT to imply that "the modest audiophile" was confused. I often find it amusing the folks who set up their own youtube channel to "share knowledge", and to be fair, opinion, can make such rookie mistakes as this guy did, yet not go back and change their heading. Wrong info is still wrong, even if you are modest. Now, on another twig of this branch, I had actually given your original post a thumbs up, before posting mine!.

Appreciate your views and agree with them… One thing though..you keep calling this a ‘remaster’, but this is a remix, which is a totally different beast.

Thank you for the comment. I should have just called it the 2022 release....😀 It is a remix as well as a remaster. Steve Rooke did the remaster per the credits.

Hi, modest and a bit confusing... You held up the latest box version, which is TOTALLY remixed, not just remastered. So what are you comparing to the 1971 all analogue, which may have been mastered in the U.K. . A remix, digital or not, is a whole different animal than a remaster. Folks either like digital, or find it flat sounding and harsh. A remix such as the type Gilles M. has been spewing, evokes a much deeper level of allegiance or betrayal.

Charly.... Of course its a different animal. There is nothing confusing with this one. I'm literally just comparing the imaging and soundstage of the two different versions that I have. One is a1971 pressing from France and the other is the Giles Martin 2022 version. Thats it. Nothing more, nothing less. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the comment. Yup I think Apple Corps would take issue with that. 😆 Really what I'm trying to articulate is the difference in sound-stage and imaging in my listening room. Your mileage may vary as they say.
