I think shoko deserved so much more. This is the same girl who sakuta mentioned dreaming about every single night and cried in his sleep just remembering her. For the person who has saved sakuta twice from depression , inspired him to be a good person and save people , is always there for him at his worst , even decided to sacrifice her own life just so he could be happy , and when that didn't work she decided to erase her own existence from his memory just so he wouldn't feel guilty : sakuta still chooses mai san. I get she's the main heroine , but like bro ? Mai san ain't done nothing close to what shoko has done for sakuta. They are literally bound by fate and both have saved each other metaphorically and literally.

Yea Mai did nothing for him, only sacrificed her own life to save him, not a big deal. The fact that Shoko did all of this for him doesn't mean he automatically owes her his love and devotion, even though he does love her but not in a way he loves Mai. There's no good choice, however selfish it may sound he did choose happines and lives for 2 people instead of 1 person and even after he still wanted to save Shoko knowing that he may loose memory and never meat Mai ever again and Mai agreed to that. In the light novels its described in a way greater detail, Sakuta literally cries every night to sleep thinking of Shoko and that's what prompted Mai to agree about saving Shoko in the end. Sakuta and Mai love is unshakeable and unwavering, they trust each other no matter what, that's what makes them soulmates.

@@restless8638 and shouko sacrificed her life...twice...and erased herself from their memory... mai can't begin to compete with shouko's selflessness. And while that doesn't mean that sakuta owes her love and devotion , it still means that shouko deserved some type of appreciation or compensation , because NO other character in the entire show would be willing to put up with all that for sakuta. And while I can't blame sakuta for his feelings , I can criticise the show for making mai completely pale in comparison to shouko as a love interest, and in my opinion shouko deserved more recognition and a happier ending , as apposed to getting cucked and forgotten for the rest of the show.
