Music from Australia and New Zealand in the year 1963:
The Bee Gees performing 'I Want You To Want Me' on the TCN-9 program Bandstand - broadcasted on the 7th of September 1963.
Note: The Bee Gees were British migrants that had started their career in their homeland. However, like many British-born performers (Billy Thorpe, Olivia Newton John, Frank Ifield; to name a few), the Bee Gees became a household name in Australia prior to international success.
Note: Bandstand, was an Australian musical/variety television show which screened from November 1958 to 1972. It was produced at the studios of TCN-9 in Sydney and eventually became a national program as Nine Network expanded into other Australian cities in the early 1960s and was hosted by Brian Henderson. Later shows from the mid 70's was hosted by Daryl Somers.

@@LazyIRanch 'may not have been handsome like his brothers'?! Robin was the most handsome Gibb boy! Those Heavenly brown eyes & that brilliant smile with those adorable crooked teeth.... GAH! How can you _say_ that?! I feel so bad for him, being compared to Barry all his life & never measuring up. IMO Barry & Andy were attractive enough but Robin was sexy & more attractive. Don't take my little rant seriously, I just like to defend him since not many people seemed to when he was alive & I do think he was a gorgeous man. He was an absolute hellion as well!

These guys were part of so many different eras in pop music. From early '60s doo-wop to late-'60s flower pop, to disco, to using synths in the '80s. They had their last hit in the late '90s, for crying out loud! They went out of style a lot, but then had a lot of comebacks. Having good songs will eventually convince people to let you back in. Only death could finally stop this band, sadly.

When The Bee Gees were touring they sent a trunk via air to Key West Airport to me to change the heel bases on their boots from straight to more like a cowboys pitch. I was told one pair were very special, and I later found out that one pair were John Lennons boots wore in Hard Days Night, that John took off at party and gave to Maurice shortly before John was murdered.Apparently, I'm told, Maurice liked Johns boots. I kept the heel bases, not knowing but.....Oh my claim to fame HAHAHA. But Maurice later sent me a pic of him in the very boots after I changed the bases. Next year they sent another trunk full off boots to change for the next tour..I'm a retired shoe cobbler and one of my greatest memories of being a female cobbler for 30 years was all of this...

All these boys wanted to do was entertain Australia with their singing talent, and I think it's absurd that 58 years later, the world is bullying them for their looks. How shallow has the world gotten that not even young boys cannot entertain the world without their looks being criticised. I am so happy youtube was not around back then. Reading these comments I can only imagine the complex these boys would have developed if reading the rubbish you people are saying about them. We may never hear Staying Alive, Jive Talking, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, Island In The Stream, Emotion, I Started A Joke, and all their other wonderful songs. If youtube was around in the 60's, these boys would probably need therapy. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves.

I grew up to the earler BG's and was not a fan of their disco music or any disco music. They made some of the best music in the world and will last forever. Robin is such a ham! One of the few bands that I never got to see and regret not seeing them live..Rip..Robin, Maurice and Andy.

Astounding that in a continent the size of Australia only a little more than 10 million people lived there in 1960. That's 2 million more than New York City! And yet to have produced all that talent.

OMG! I've never seen them this young! I met them in the early 70s when I worked at Philharmonic Hall in Lincoln Center. I was asked to take them down to the stage from the Green Room one night. They were very friendly and down to earth. That was just before they went disco!

@@ambersalcove Exactly! I loved songs like "Words", " Massachusetts", "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart", and yes, even "1941 New York Mining Disaster". I still play them on the guitar often. As an unrepentant former Haight-Ashbury hippie, I detested the whole mindset of Disco, but even in that synthetic universe they always stood heads and shoulders above most of the over produced dreck that fueled The Studio 54 psychosis!

During the 90s I was sitting in Doramos Pizza in Huntington NY eating a couple of slices. It is a big pizzeria but I was the only customer. All of a sudden a beige convertible Rolls Royce pulls up and 4 guys come in to pick up a few pies. I could tell that one of them was probably a famous musician but I never knew who it was? A couple of months ago I described this incident to a friend who grew up in Huntington and he said it was Robin Gibb !

I love old footage of the Bee Gees when they were younger and I think it's just silly things were different back in the 1960's when music was so much different than any decade of music that I had experienced and I never stopped listening to their music or watching KZfaq videos on their music videos in black and white or in color

The hilarious part with Robin--the show stealer--is that he is not hamming it up. You just know, it's intrinsically who he is. A little bit scary, yet overall charming and joyful.

Robin was always the weird/nerdy one. Kudos to him for owning it and letting his talent shine through. Growing up nerdy myself, I appreciate him. But it really wasn't fare. Barry got more than his fare share of good looks AND talent, yet every interview I've seen with Barry, he is very humble.

@@GlennSacks - Good for you! It pisses me off when people judge books by their covers. I don't call Robin weird but eccentric. Vive la difference! People usually call others weird when they are smarter than them or have unique talents, interests or tastes. That's their problem, not yours (or Robin's). They can't stand anyone who is different rather than realize that is what makes them unique and appreciate their uniqueness. I actually don't think Barry is all that and a bag of chips. I think he is conceited.
