The California Beekeeper

Күн бұрын

Commercial Beekeeper and Queen Breeder, Jose Uribe, begins getting ready for the day at 2:30am. We need to head from Glenn County to Butte County to pick up a load of bees and drive them up to Plumas County before the day warms up and the bees start flying. We are in a race against the clock.
Upon arriving in Plumas County, Jose cannot find a lighter to smoke the bees back into the hives. He begins getting to work- taking down the old electric fence from last year and moving the yard about 100 yards deeper into the property so they are not a nuisance to visitors who will stay at the cabin.
Jose then sets up a new electric fence setup and chats a little before he finishes unloading. After unloading all of the hives, he digs into a couple and shares how he spots and marks a queen.
If you placed an order for queens with us this year… thank you! We are passionate about what we do and are working on making a big difference in the industry. If you would like to place an order, please contact us at 530-354-7794 or visit our website at www.thecaliforniabeekeeper.com.
If you are new to our channel, welcome! We are a small family owned and operated commercial apiary located in Northern California. We've been commercial beekeeping for the past 12 years, but branched off and opened Uribe Honey Bees in January of 2019. Shortly after we launched our KZfaq channel in April of 2020. We specialize in queen breeding, pollination services, hive management and brokering.
Thank you for watching and supporting us! We love you guys!

I love watching your videos. I have gone through moving bees by hand and feel for you. We use electric fences here in Australia and have found that the electric fence is only as good as the earth. When it gets dry the fence does not work as well as it should. To counter that problem we carry a bottle of water and pour it on the ground where the earth is. I hope this can be of help to you.

Ya need 1 of my trucks 5 TON 4x4 with 24 foot bed and EZ lOADER. A beekeeper never sleeps. Yep each keeper has to do as they know and for their area. Like me Verse you i am in minus 20 to 30+ deg in winter and in 70s to 90 summer. I shed in singles for 6 months out of year. Also i have thousands of arc of Farm the girls work. Every Queen i have but 2 are Black as a tire. a couple of new ones from cells turned out a carmel color but they are a carnie cauc mix. take care my friend

Matthew my man! That sounds slick! Kinda like Ian’s setup (Canadian Beekeeper)? Anything would make this process easier but no complaints here, I love this stuff! Im hoping to introduce a Caucasian next year into our program. How do you like them?
@matthewmccormick2417
@matthewmccormick2417 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheCaliforniaBeekeeper I like them. Up here in the Cold the seem to need smaller cluster to winter on and use less food to winter on. I still keep 90lb + single deeps tho so they have plenty. Yes much like IAN on she is more electronic and state of the art you can say. IAN and how his shed is set up and what he said he would change has helped me a lot. Btw expect stick hands/gloves as caucasians tent to prop things a little more but again up here in the cold thats why they do so good. You and the family take care and stay safe

It’s rough but that’s what it is for now Frank💪🏼 Need to feed this beast😄🤷🏻‍♂️ In all honesty Frank I am enjoy this process of our growth. I know with our hard work and efforts we will reach our goals! Yes we have enough time to build those singles into doubles. I was actually up the mountain yesterday making our firebreak wider and cranking some feed and stacking some deeps onto our strong singles. The Dixie fire was about 3 miles out when I left. They have that area evacuated so we just pray now

I don’t deal with bears, about 100 miles South of that issue. Why not just use 4-5 strands of wire and get rid of the hog wire? I think you get more bang for your amps. I wish i could send you a diagram of the fences the ranchers are using in South Carolina for cattle, horses, and sheep.
@TheCaliforniaBeekeeper
@TheCaliforniaBeekeeper 3 жыл бұрын
Michael that’s funny you mentioned that! I had a rancher out here tell me that same thing. I took his advice and went with 5 strands and 1 ground for the bottom wire. I upgraded to a Parmak Magnum 12v solar energizer and 3- 8 ft. Earth rods. Hope it does a good job with the zap! I accidentally touched it and definitely gave me a good bang!💥
@Tcrim354
@Tcrim354 3 жыл бұрын
California’s Extension Service, In South Carolina it is through Clemson, should be able to advice you. Also Premier One, sells fence netting. I use them as an example all the current in their netting flows horizontally not vertical. hog wire as current flowing in all directions so the POP or bang is diminished. Keep making videos. My High School FFA kids are going to love these so far.

Damn... I see in the description you are at Plumas County. That's where they evacuated a few towns because of the fires. :( The scenery of those woodsy spots in your videos are awesome. I love seeing that kind of stuff. Your website says you guys do NW Carniolans? I'm very curious how much difference there is between those and the hybrid carni queens. It would be interesting to hear you talk about it sometime. Partly that caught my eye because the other NWC breeder near charges a freaking arm for shipping. :S I hope you guys will be OK.
