I use the shotgun as a grenade launcher that has a shotgun alt-fire mode.

Even though I'm somewhat "advanced" I still learned some new things, like that the normal punch also has a purpose.

I literally never buy games on day 1. But I loved Doom 2016 so much and I had $60 in Microsoft rewards so I decided to splurge and got the base game day 1. (Xbox one X). I don't regret it at all and I don't even play multiplayer. Great quality all the way through. Good frames and great graphics on a good tv with the One X. Beat it on ultra violence now I'm adding halfway through on nightmare.

12:13 Ah, this is where a little bit of my expertise comes in You don't have to wait for the wheel to actually show up. The second you tap the button you can flick the stick to get whatever weapon you want. If you have the muscle memory down, you can swap before the slowdown even has time to set in and you can potentially swap before the wheel itself is even visible

I love how he says “when you fall in love with doom” because he knows if you play doom, you’re gonna love it.

"You can quickly tap the weapon wheel to switch between your two most recent weapons" ... I've played through both games and didn't know that until now. 😂

I've never seen a beginner's guide that perfectly represents how the game feels and what you`re actually thinking in while playing; you explain all the fundamentals without ripping off the tutorial sections while still elaborating on every important detail without overstuffing it... Can`t wait for the DLC, although I'm skeptical about the soundtrack.

When the guy talks like "You might not master this your first play-through", I smiled embarrassingly, because I still haven't mastered a lot of that stuff.... after 120 campaign hours! Currently on my third Nightmare play-through. I did try Ultra Nightmare and did eventually make to Exultia. I thought that once you beat a level, it's done and you start over at the beginning of the level that you're currently on when you die... felt like that naive summer child when I discovered that it deletes your save no matter which level you die on and it's back to Hell On Earth, and listening to King Novik blabber on before you can skip the intro. Argh! The only quick-swap combo that I can do reliably is still SSG and Ballista, which is admittedly pretty effective. The time slowdown rune is a god-sent for an old fart like me, along with the death blow one. Kids, enjoy your fast, cat-like reflexes and having enough free time to invest hundreds of hours into games like this, while they last!

After I finished Doom on Nightmare (1st run on the game), I saw that I my gameplay on other shooters improved dramatically. Love it or hate it, Doom is THE school of shooters.

i would be happy if in the dlc they add more animations for chainsawing the fodder demons because yes they are awesome but they are always the same would be nice to have like 2 more for each fodder enemy like in doom 2016 where there are 2 or 3 per fodder enemy

Dont be discouraged if you arent god mode like mayo. Im a hurt me plenty level player, and the game is still fun as hell. Slap on some cheats, and just mutilate the forces of hell as a stress reliever.

I got my friend into doom by showing him the music then some slayer gate footage. He finally bought it during quake con sale. And i've been watching him play via streaming on discord and i give him tips on what to do, weapon switching, combat advice etc. Definitely going to send him this though.

"Get halfway through the campaign without using the flame belch." I beat ultra nightmare and used the flame belch like 5 times at most. I always forget to use the flame belch and I have 160 hours in the game.

When you complete ultra nightmare while trying to achieve can’t perfect perfection but the tutorial still helps you

Your videos on Doom Eternal helped me pick it back up after bouncing off it at launch. I’m slowly working my way through the campaign on Nightmare and while it’s challenging it no longer feels like a slog, and it’s incredibly satisfying when I finally manage to come out on top after a difficult battle.

Damnit... I'll admit, I wish I had this 18 months ago when I first started playing Doom Eternal. Most of it I now know (after slogging through the game many times) although there were still things that I weren't aware off - due to you definitely being far more pro than I could ever be. This has to be one of the most precise, concise and genuinely thought out game guide I've ever seen. It's articulated so well, there's no fluff or waffle - just 16 minutes of pure tips, tricks and meaningful information to help people rip and tear. In a time where MANY people yammer on and on, merely trying to create videos long enough to monetise, this shone through like a beacon of light. This was... beautifully made. Thank you.

Fun fact if your struggling with cyber mancubi: microwave beam them while walking up towards them (best to start this in the air). Blood punch when you get close them (they won't retaliate, that's what the microwave beam is for). After the blood punch, depending on how long you've been microwaving them, they will either die outright or be staggered for a while as their armour breaks. Even funnier fact- you don't need to switch weapons after the blood punch. A couple plasma rifle shots should kill it or put it in a glory kill state, but if you want to a single SSG blast will end it. Continuing with the microwave beam will explode the mancubus which will protect you from the the demons that have defiantly crowded around by now.

I cannot stress enough how important increasing fov was for me. Took my gameplay to a whole other level. I even managed to completed Ultra nightmare on console, before that I was having trouble with hurt me plenty. It’s very important to also realise that movement in this game is essential. The better your movement, the less damage you stake. Enemy AI in this game does not have pin point accuracy and their projectile are not instant. Therefore, I would recommend changing the default settings to where you can simultaneously aim, shoot, jump and dash. For a regular controller I used l2 and R2, but if you have paddles, that’s a huge bonus and will improve your movement significantly. I do have gripes with the game tho. Mainly because I played on console, there is a huge skill gap between pc and console players mainly due to more accuracy and button mapping. Still managed to overcome those with a shitty controller. I just feel that this game was made for console as an after-thought :)

I just gotta say that this is the best tutorial I've ever watched for any game I've ever played. Unbelievably thorough with no waffling on.

You can also customize the weapon wheel if you want your favorite weapons to be more accessible to you. Also also, turn off empowered demons in the options. It's not a good idea to have to deal with those in your first playthrough.

But the struggle to get my friends to see the amazing things this game has to offer is real- for me, it's been less about explaining to them how not to have a bad time in Doom E, but more about how they can enjoy the process of pushing their own limits of what they thought was possible. It's really tough to land that message on someone who doesn't believe there's any benefit to leaving their comfort zone.

I like how the game teaches you quite a few of these things, without you really realizing you've been shown how to do it by the game. I found I was just kind of doing a lot of these things naturally through my first playthrough. Especially with the chainsaw stuff lol Its such a life saver

The Key binding stuff is really important. I played through my entire first playthrough with the weapon wheel and after adjusting every weapon to keys I can comfortably reach I felt like I was playing so much better my second time around. Flame belch and grenades are also something that I had to get used to, since they're something that's just absent even in other classical fps. Would have surely done better my first time around had I seen this video, but I am happy, that many new players will get a better grasp at the mechanics more quickly. Thank you for this video :)

Mayo, i have been watching your channel since you had only 500 subscribers, and yet i have found you one of the most proffesional, optimistic and best player and youtuber to yet see in Doom, keep up the great work and don’t stop!

It's worth mentioning that weapon wheel players can switch weapons before the wheel appears, as long as you hold your wheel button. Makes it a bit faster as long as you remember the weapon placement

Great guide, Mayo. I played once on Hurt me Plenty and struggled to finish the game, I was playing it wrong. After seeing your tips in another video, I'm on my first run in Nightmare and going really well, just arrived on Urdak. In my opinion, you can't play Eternal in the same way you play 2016, it's very different in a lot of aspects and getting used to the new battle dance can take some time. Doom Eternal is for me the best first person shooter ever made and one of the most fun games ever.

Much respect for mentioning doom 1/2 and duke3d. We used to have a blast with dukeedit and changing the cfgs for different weapon sounds and damages.

I used to play this game religiously on my PS4 back when it launched and throughout the quarantine. Now that I've finally got a PC 4 years later, I'm just waiting for it to go on sale, tho I'm really rusty so this video is going to help a tonne.

another small useful tip about finishing a combat is check ur ammo capacity, you may go frustrated to check different ammo amount, but check12:07, you can see a red contrast light indicator around the edge of the weapon wheel, that red light indicates full ammo. I do recommend UAC UI, because it has the most powerful contrast (forme me at least)

Really appreciate & enjoy your videos Mayo! I'm kinda an old school gamer, My parents bought me a ColecoVision when they first came out, man those were the good OL day's lol. Then at some point in time I went with a computer with mouse and keyboard, there is just so much more you can do with a mouse and keyboard for sure compared to an Xbox one controller that I have now. At some point in time the computer messed up and... I by no means am Tec savvy let's say for sure, people still ask me do I still live under a rock when it comes to technology. The only thing I knew how to do was hit the on and off switch so I could play. Of course I played all the doom games from day one, and as far as Doom Eternal goes, it's absolutely amazing to me with the Lighting Fast pace that I would think would be great with keyboard and mouse to Make you feel like, hey let's say it...A God in such a way of gaming!! I bought my son an Xbox one several years back, and I played it a little bit, I think it was gears of war. I absolutely sucked at the Xbox one controller and the reason I never fixed my PC because back then to build one and to build a kick-ass one was about four grand! Obviously today it's nothing like that because I just went and bought my stepson one without the monitor because I already had one, it was $1,100 and probably would have been 30 times better than the computer I would have built quite some time ago. Now I did buy him a nice mouse and keyboard, I can't think of the name of it right this moment but It does have all the shiny lights flashing back and forth lol, there was none of that back in my day so to speak. So I guess where I'm going with this story, Is that I broke down and bought me an Xbox one several years ago for myself just because I am an old school gamer and I've gotten better with the Xbox one controller and I do really enjoy watching Mayo's videos, some things that I kind of knew about from gaming back in the day and of course stuff that I've learned from him it's been pretty awesome. But of course my favorite, sorry I hate to say it 😬 is of course the Double Barrel Absolutely Brutal Mayhem/rocket launcher when you make it explode when the flare becomes visible when it gets near the enemy. It's fun to hit them with the double barrel and of course leap in the air switch to the rocket launcher just like Mayo does I think it's fantastic it's really Awesome for sure! The first day when I played Doom Eternal, I admit I started on the easiest level. I'm not a hardcore gamer by any means, but what I do like when it comes to games as beautiful as Doom Eternal, I like to look at everything, absorb everything where you're not constantly being rushed or enemies looking around the corner to to take you out or if they are you're on easy mode so it doesn't take much to take them out. But I just enjoy taking the game in as a whole from the start to the end and you get in the zone and you become a part of that game and obviously that's where we all go for an hour or two to get away from the stresses of the day. So now I'm on ultraviolence which is absolutely fantastic because if you don't move we all know what happens lol! seriously on the easiest level I very rarely used the flame belch or their grenade cause I couldn't make my fingers do it or my brain think about it ( sorry but that's what happens when you get old lol ) but Now we all know it's a lifesaver and obviously it's a constant when it's there for you and it's built back up. I appreciate everything you do Under the Mayo!! I really respect and enjoy your videos and then of course everybody leaving a comment about a game that's so awesome!! I don't really never comment on much of anything but I do like Mayo and I know I got a little bit long-winded but the game an most of the players are pretty much amazing in itself!!

Thanks for a really helpful video. I like to think I handled Doom 2016 pretty well, even on harder difficulties. But Eternal is a lot more unforgiving, and it's just a lot easier to trap yourself underground with 2-3 heavies. It's not yet unreasonably hard, but I definitely learnt to play better just from following your trick of quick switching, and making more regular use of the chainsaw, even when I didn't need the ammo to give myself a few seconds of time to think. I only just got the chaingun, and until then, I found Eternal's iteration of Hell Knights (and their Dread Knight cousins) to be surprisingly difficult. Back in Doom 2016, I'd just run up to it and double tap the super shotgun to its face.

One day I really want to be like this as a KZfaqr interesting to watch and live to watch helpful videos while I relax and eat breakfast
