0:00 the elevator pitch
1:18 what's the goal?
1:45 make a checklist of what you need to learn
-- 2:20 button layout
------ 3:03 set the dash macro to a button!
- -3:24 learn about our character's moves
------ 3:40 universal anti-airs (forward punch / 6P)
------ 4:11 universal overheads (dust)
------ 4:27 CLOSE slash and FAR slash
------ 4:49 unique input attacks
------ 5:10 special moves
-- 6:00 Gatling System (your attack's cancel options)
-- 7:12 Movement Options
-- 7:25 you can air block attacks but...
-- 7:48 Learn at least one mix-up
------ 8:00 Throws, how do they work?
---------- 8:45 Throws beat meterless reversals
---------- 9:03 air throws
------ 9:16 most characters have unique mix-ups too
-- 9:33 learn a combo or two (be careful here!)
-- 10:28 System Mechanics
------ 10:45 Bursts (blue and gold)
------ 11:19 Wall break
------ 12:51 Roman Cancel
---------- 13:10 Blue RC (not attacking)
---------- 13:18 Purple RC
---------- 13:29 Red RC (right when you make contact)
---------- 13:47 Yellow RC (defensive)
------ 14:16 other system mechanics (FD, IB, RISC)
-- 14:42 time to play actual matches
-- 15:27 what next? (watch your replays and take notes)
-- 15:58 thanks for watching

It's true. Outside of rivals of aether, dragon ball and Smash bros 2D fighting games are usually so hard to play compared to shooters or racers for example. I remember trying blaze blue and struggling to do even a simple projectile or special attack. But this game kinda looks like a fun time even if u suck so I'm considering getting into it

Thank freaking god I found a video that actually beginner friendly. Many a times have I found fighting games or guilty gear beginner guides that talk as if the begginers already know what all of the jargons they use mean, as if we're expected to know a single thing about fighting games even though some of those videos claim to be guides for complete beginners on fighting games. It is highly frustrating and discouraging to see those videos, but at least yours was different and informative.

Thank you for the awesome guide man! I've never invested a lot of time into a fighting game to get good. A couple of months ago I started with dbfz but got bored with learning combo after combo because I thought I needed that before playing matches. Thanks to your video I've learned that that is by far not the most important part which means getting one or two combos down is enough for the start. Also this game is a 1v1 which means less things I have to worry about when starting compared to dbfz. Thanks again for the video. Looking forward to guides on the rest of the game's mechanics that you didn't touch on here and some character specific guides.

So I just picked up GGS as the first fighting game I want to try to take seriously. After about 12 hours I know some basic combos, have dipped into RCs a little bit, and have a general idea of what my character wants to do. I'm having trouble with a couple things though: 1) I don't know when or how to take back my turn, so end up sitting in a corner either getting mixed up or countered to death disappointingly often, and 2) I'm not really sure how to go about figuring out how to learn through training mode without burning bad habits into muscle memory. Great vid, and I look forward to what you put out next!

No matter how many videos I watch, or how much I spend my time in training, I just cannot control my hands when in an actual match, I cannot react to an opponent at all. I REALLY want to love fighting games but im just horrible at them.

Jumping in to a fighting game can be very discouraging, especially when you think you're making good progress. Playing matches in the park against opponents that are stronger as well as ones that are less adept is very helpful. Watching your replays and seeing how you should have reacted in a given situation is very helpful too. Roman cancels can be overwhelming and not easy to incorporate into play if you're new to the series. I am for instance but I don't think I'm terrible at fighting games. Yesterday I won some matches against a guy with over 1500 wins and I'm around 110 or so. I also got thrashed ten/zero by a by a guy who I truly believed I was better than, but he had his basics down cold. He didn't have to do anything fancy, he was just consistent and I got wrecked for it. It can be hugely frustrating, but it's all part of the process of fighting games. Watch a lot of content too. Sajam has great videos, instructionals, and he talks about fighting games and how to climb that mountain, so to say. If you take only one thing away from all of this, it's be patient with yourself. You don't need to have optimal combos when you're starting. Work on basics until it starts to feel more fluid. Then keep doing it. Adding in one Roman cancel to a combo is still progress, even if it doesn't work out. Training your brain and muscle memory to act/react takes time. Try not to lose patience with yourself and super importantly, put the controller down when you're not having fun. If you're getting destroyed and it's just pissing you off, you aren't going to help yourself. You'll just feel like more of a screw up and you won't want to keep playing. Other than that man just give it time.

@@YukonJack Thank you very much for those words, I'll take a look at Sajam's content as well like you said. Thanks!

@@xStryphe93 always. I'm still working on putting the controller down when it's not fun bit. I'm trying to take my own advice too 😂

Hello, I'm new to this channel and I've had a lot of interest in this game since the beta, I plan to buy it soon but I never quite understood what people are doing when I watch tournaments, now however I have a much better idea on what's going on, so thanks for that.

This is my first fighting game and ngl when I saw the game on sale and took a look I bought it just because of the visuals but after playing for quite a bit I realized that I could really get into this game it's actually really fun eventhough I'm still very bad.
