Thank you so much for SBL! I did the trial, then I signed up for 1 year, and it was so incredible that I became a lifetime member. I am halfway through the Player's Path and I am also utilizing the courses for Theory, Site Reading, and so much more! Every bass player at every level of skill can use SBL to level up and become a better all-around player and musician. Thank you again Scott and everyone at SBL.

To any bass players considering joining SBL, do it! I became a lifetime member many years ago. The content on SBL is incredible. The courses you have access to once you join are truly helpful, especially if (like me) you learned to play by ear, and now need to 'fill in' lots of gaps in your understanding. Plus, Scott's fluid technique has gotten into my playing; I play more efficiently now. SBL offers Accelerator courses; these are an additional cost, but OMG they are FANTASTIC! Technique Accelerator is so good, and I am now implementing some double thumb into my live playing, which would not have been possible without Scott and Ian's recent Slap Bass Accelerator. During the lockdowns when gigs dried up and I was home A LOT, this site was an oasis; having a healthy place to focus and refine my craft while the world went to hell was a huge help, reminiscent of how playing music as an early teen kept me out of the worst trouble with my friends of that era, who were trouble. You have to put your work in, and there is still plenty I need to work on, but SBL has truly helped me move forward on the instrument in a way that would not have been possible left to my own devices. I have joined several other online music courses, and while they are all valuable, if I had to commit solely to one online bass education, it would be SBL without a doubt. Peace!

I finally signed up for the SBL lessons and it’s been fantastic. Nothing comparable to the course material on KZfaq, and it is an amazing value compared to private lessons. I’ve been a self-taught ‘hack’ on bass for decades, but decided to finally put my money where my mouth is and get serious about my bass playing. The course material has easily doubled or tripled my skills and knowledge in just a few months of membership. Thanks Scott and team!

I got the lifetime membership not long ago, and I've already learnt more than I'd done for years before joining. SBL is not only an astonishingly high quality platform, it is also THE Academy for bass players. And it's not boring or demotivating like everything else I've tried...like books and snobby tutors, or unfocussed like YT - it's engaging, it's entertaining, it's fascinating; and I feel I'm always in great company. Wish everything else in life had a solution like SBL for playing bass.

The SBL Academy is just that, an “Academy”. There a lifetime worth of material to learn from, and that material is structured and direct with no BS. I’m getting so much more out of these courses than I have from all the in-person 1:1 sessions that I’ve ever had, for a lot less money, and according to MY schedule. I had an Annual membership for 2 years. When the time came to renew again, I just got the Lifetime membership. I retired from my day job last year and have been able to spend around 2 hours a day playing and learning. Over the past few years SBL has had a huge impact on both my playing and my musical knowledge. I’ve been playing for over 50 years and have huge holes in my education that are being filled in. This is the best musical investment that I’ve ever made, better than any amp, bass or pedal. I’m sharing my experience with SBL in case those considering membership may find it helpful in making their decision, not to try to tell anyone that SBL is for them. Not everyone wants a structured set of courses/tutorials; some prefer in-person sessions to a structured, self-paced series of courses and lectures, and some may prefer the “entertainment” value of the free material available on KZfaq (there are a precious few KZfaq channels that get right to the meat of the topic without needless blabbering). Also not everyone has the money to spend on lessons. In any case, I wish you all the best in your bass adventures.

Hey there Scott, where do you get your bass gloves from and what material do you prefer?
@devinebass
@devinebass Жыл бұрын
Thanks for enquiring about the gloves Scott uses. Unfortunately he has to use them as he suffers from a neurological condition called 'Focal Dystonia'. So... before you run out and buy a pair of black gloves - save yourself the money. If he didn't have to use the gloves he definitely wouldn't be using them. If you do have a similar condition - they are simply tight, thin woolen gloves that you can find in most camping stores or on Amazon. www.amazon.co.uk/EDZ-Merino-Wool-Gloves-Red/dp/B009S4QJOA/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1375953899&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=woollen+gloves+merino+redl Hope that helps

You had made a video to explain that you must NOT use a 5-string bass and lately you have only had that in your hands ?
@fractal_aura
@fractal_aura Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure the suggestion of beginners starting on a 4-string is just that: a generalized suggestion, and that ultimately, if you know you want to play a 5 or 6-string bass, then you should go ahead and do it so you can get comfortable with the instrument you actually want to play
@devinebass
@devinebass Жыл бұрын
Hey dude, in the video you've mentioned Scott takes us through his opinion on why you might want to avoid picking up a 5-string bass as they're not always the best option. In other scenarios they're totally awesome! That's why Scott has a handful in his collection 🙌🏻

You said it yourself at 16:47 why SBL was too frustrating for an absolute beginner. It's just "random content" for people that already know how to play.
@devinebass
@devinebass Жыл бұрын
Hey dude! Certainly the volume of courses available within the academy can be overwhelming to beginners. The learning pathways however are a step-by-step way to accelerate your bass playing which is an ideal solution for players just starting out. If you need assistance navigating the Academy or learning how to best utilise the courses within SBL you can reach out to our team via the Campus, they'll be happy to help!
