Really comprehensive, especially on optimal form. Do you have any idea why I get shooting pains from having the bar low on the palm? I seem to consistently hit a nerve when benching heavy and it makes my arms feel like they're about to explode. Also music credit at 01:25?

He does speak quite fast, thus I had to rewind it many times... still, this is the best information packed video on the subject by far!! I wish I had someone half as great (at least) to watch my bench technique and correct me. Much respect coach.... I like you more as coach than a doctor; though you seem great at both, though, you have absolutely no reason, nor should you, care about what I think. Great video.

Most folks suffer from low S. S for squat. However, low B is also common, but not for lack of trying, usually the same thing over and over again, such as one-rep max attempts on the bench somewhen on a Monday (and Tuesday, and Wednesday, et cetera) and have the spotter do an increasing amount of rowing intensity.
@aragon19964

Low bar squat guide would be highly appreciated! The area around my elbows started to hurt last few weeks (when low bar squatting). I tried to set the grip wider/closer, have a thumbless grip, do the proud chest cue and i still get the pain. The pain itself feels like weak/kinda trembling sensation and is affecting the bench press when the bar descends approaching the chest, in which position while the weight gets heavier, the initial 1-2 reps are largely affected by the pain and the movement/force production is compromised.
@zach5557
@zach5557 6 жыл бұрын
Alexandros Koutoulas I had the same exact problem a few weeks ago. Something that I did which helped was I didn’t push my elbows up so high anymore. I kept my grip on the bar narrow so I could still have a tight back but I focused on keeping my elbows down and tucked in. Hope this helps.
@Naptownstreetsquid
@Naptownstreetsquid 6 жыл бұрын
Try focusing hard on mainting the shelf the bar sits on. You might be getting a little lazy with it. Also you might have an acute injury so even if you "fix" the problem, pain might remain for a few weeks
@CrimsonStrider
@CrimsonStrider 6 жыл бұрын
You're going to have to concentrate on your elbow position, assuming that is indeed the issue. I think one thing I often see Jordan and others suggest is gripping the bar with the thumb rather than thumbless. You could also try high bar for a little while, to give the area a break and some time to recover, then giving LB another shot when things start to feel better.
@aragon19964
@aragon19964 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestions guys! Yeah I'm currently squatting high bar so it fixed the problem for now... I sometimes also move the low bar squats AFTER the bench, that way my elbows are 100% pain-free... Naptown Squid I think that's definitely one of the issues I have on the squat because when I consciously try to keep my back tight I feel like the bar sits better... Also Buddy Lake that's the hardest thing for me.. Even with a narrow grip i feels like if I move my elbows down the shelf is starting to get looser... Although I haven't experimented with it a lot since I'm currently squatting high bar. Most likely next week I'm going low bar again so will see what happens.

Hey Dr. Feigenbaum, you mentioned in 7:53 that one should retract one's shoulder blades together (retracting the scapulae) during the setup. I'm just curious if you've heard of conflicting opinions on this matter? For example, Kassem Hanson from N1 Education and Training laid out a very compelling, seamingly biomechanically sound explanation of why one should not do so in his video titled "Should you keep your scapula depressed/retracted/pinned while you press?".

One question guys! Should I use wriststraps all the time or only when lifting heavy? My 1RM is 70kg (I know, shame) but from 50kg and more I find it difficult to keep my wrists straight. Until now I didn't want to use wriststraps to every lifting as I think it's like doing squats with belt even if the barbell is empty.
