Today, we'll take a look at an interesting little slipjoint, a new version of Benchmade's 'Proper' slipjoint, the S90V and Carbon Fiber 318-2.

I have the sheepsfoot version, and I think what jumps out about this piece is it looks and feels so refined and lovely. The action is non-traditional, but that feels like it’s by design to me, and while I like trad W&T, this thing does feel good in its own way. It’s my first S90v blade and despite what some say about that steel it sharpens exceedingly well to an absolutely laser sharp edge.

I’ve 2 Propers, not to mention a pile of other knives in this vein, but I still keep looking at it and probably will buy one.... just as they iterate it in to something super special and then halve the price of the poorer version I just bought!

You need to have a look at the new ZT 0230 it's blown me away tbh,the detents are perfect and the knife smooth in all the right places,no blade clank as the blade enters the body on closing etc,put it in a wee GEC slip and disappears into the pocket, second to none is putting it mildly

I have two Propers and he’s right about the action, it’s not awesome. If benchmade isn’t going to improve the action, they should add a nail nick to the other side to make it easier to pinch pull open. I just put copper Flytanium scales on one of them and I’m really liking the added heft. Makes it feel substantial.

I've been interested in slip joints lately. Just picked up my first one, a Cold Steel Lucky One. Yes it has questionable billboarding but it was on sale direct from their site for $45 which is a steal for full carbon and S35VN. Could you do a review of Aaron Frederick's Trash Panda? I love when he comes on the Knife Nuts podcast, funny dude and would like to pick up one or 2 of his knives one day.

I generally like a clip point aesthetically better than a sheepsfoot, but to me the lines of this knife flows much more smoothly on the sheepsfoot than the clip point. They finally have come up with another version of the proper that looks as good as the micarta original run. The red g10 looks terrible and the limited dlc/blue g10 run was horrible idea for a slipjoint. And I like blue. As far as the fit and finish, I've had very good luck with benchmade QC in the past, but I handled 3 of these at a brick and mortar and none of them were well centered. Yikes.

I was just thinking the same thing. I have the BM 319-2 (the sheeps foot version of the knife in this vid) and ZT 0230. They're similar enough to make a good comparison. The ZT slices better. But if Nick doesn't like the action on the Proxy ;) he's going to hate the action on the 0230.
@everydaycarry1328
@everydaycarry1328 4 жыл бұрын
Nathaniel Easterling I haven't handled either the ZT 0230 or the Proper but from the reviews I see the 0230 has a stronger first detent and a positive half stop. I don't know how strong the second detent is on the ZT but we're going to get the good the great and the bad and the ugly! Which one do you prefer?
