I built one last month. Yes, mind blowing. So... I built another. T- motor stack and motor set up. Crazy smooth. Sounds great too. Arms aren't as strong as an Apex! But it's lite, strong, smooth and easy to maintain. Brain 3d has a nice choices in prints for all the aos frames too. I have two apex and two aos v2. Happiness till my next bad crash...

Got Evoque one year ago - still amazing and more to say awesome . But made AOS 5 v2 myself and it’s indeed best frame money can buy . Almost . Never enough . Still polishing PIDs . Installed 2020kv motors . Can sbang, can juice . Can anything . And skystars stack . Failsafed and forgot to disarm . Quad was laying in the grass and full Of grass with stalled motors literally I was smelling ozone and damn hot motors … flies after like nothing happened..

Awesome review JB. I love this frame. Those motors are the black evoque motors which are 1750 kV I believe, not 1855 kV as you noted. I have the same motors in my AOS5 V2 1855 kV are the blue Xing2 motors Also, added some Rosser lube (nyogel) on all of the arm joints to make the quad fly even smoother.

It’s not all about if you got the money to go digital I have and could easy go digital but I love a analog and will fly a analog until digital has the same latency. Yeah the pictures loverly but my brain feels the latency horrendously makes digital feel al mushy and slow. I have tried it and hated it.
@109haggy
@109haggy Жыл бұрын
That is true for sure. For me, it's only the price, so I mentioned it as the main reason that holds people back from going digital. Bind'n'fly's are cheaper than building yourself. So if a intermediate pilot with not much money like me wants a new quad, we gotta go with pre-builds. And if new quads are only available in digital, budget pilots can feel left behind quickly.

I am so new that I’m still looking into purchasing my first drone & I’ve never flown one before. Wow! I had no idea they move like this. I’m so used to seeing them move so slow for long distances. Now I’m really stuck in which type drone to get into. First I thought maybe the DJI mini pro 3, then i thought maybe the avata. Then when I saw a KZfaqr giving a review on a much quieter drone than the avata & the same size…, I was led down a rabbit hole to these types with the open frames exposing all the parts.

@Joshua Bardwell - Glad you gave a significant amount of time to one of Chris' frames. I've owned Apex's, Evoques and a few other randoms, but I can definitely push pid tune master multiplier way higher than any other quads (using damping grease and locktite to ensure limits can be pushed to the max). I would always have a second profile set though so if I have hard crash or do damage to props I can switch to fly back without issue (needed if you're living on the edge in your pids). I have to admit though, I secretly shake my head as you continue to perpetuate this '30mm ESC is more robust than 20mm' theme 😵‍💫. Honestly, in my experience the size of an esc is far less important than who actually manufactured it. You kind of admit as much without actually saying it, but still poo poo 20mm gear whenever you see a 20mm esc. I have comfortably had more 30mm stacks fail on super hard crashes than 20mm, though I am sure I haven't broken the volume you have. Like with anything in FPV, you get what you pay for. I have a bunch of blitz mini stacks and they are rock solid, only succumbing to water crashes due to stupidity.
@Schradermusic
@Schradermusic Жыл бұрын
Considering the quality is the same, which is what you should do when comparing two different sizes of something, the 30x30 ESC has more space to dissipate heat which in theory makes components live longer.
@fpvdotkiwi
@fpvdotkiwi Жыл бұрын
I think my point is clear enough that it implies I wouldn't compare a 20mm vs 30mm from the same manufacturer (theoretically the same quality) and say the 20mm is better. The point of my original comment is choice of specific fc/esc is much more important than whether it is 20mm or 30mm, so I don't get why he still perpetuates (or _seems_ like he perpetuates) this '30mm is always better than 20mm' ideology.

Also, something to *please* keep in mind. NOT everyone wants to fly like you do, i am not saying "can't", which is obviously true, i am saying "want to". Definitely the best BNF available at the moment. And yeah, in order to get prop wash handling as smooth as possible, that Master Multiplier needs to go up quite a bunch :) I just love how sharp and precise these things can fly. It's a nuance just like between various sports cars... but it's there. And that being said... amazing flying around your yard! It's just mind blowing how much progress you've been made over the years and how tightly you can fly your home spot. Awesome review!

AOS5 owner here: the arm mounting screws could be 1~2mm longer. If they come loose and you tighten them, the standoffs, in which they screw into, strip easy, if not careful. The short screws only grip into a short part of the standoffs. Also the arms suffer delamination after a crash. You cant see it ! A novice wont notice and it will Start flying really bad. Hold the motors and Twist the arms to check of it feels loose. Its delamination. I hope iflight sells the arms soon. They are hard to get. Until today they are not sold on their website. Soon I'm gonna quit the aos frame if the arm availability sucks. After my apex build, I cant say the frame flight feel is any better. Just my opinion. Although I like the aos design and details.

Loctite Threadlocker series 248. Loctite is a brand, not a product. Yes, they do make threadlocker that adhere to steel screws and stay good for long periods of time after application.
@jiatan_fpv
@jiatan_fpv Жыл бұрын
@@MysteryD Nope, 248 has 24 hour cure time. It's not the same stuff they use to coat the bolts. 'ND Patch' is one of the names for the tech if you want to google it.. "During the ND Patch pre-applied process, fasteners are heated and sprayed with a custom nylon powder which adheres to the part." Beside, when you say 'loctite' it's understood to be a shorthand for a standard thread locker, not an exotic formulation that just happens to share the same brand name. They also sell glues and epoxies, but nobody in their right mind would refer to CA glue as 'loctite' :)

@@creationlabsinc.189 Honestly I can deal with it, it's my favourite frame by far. That extra small triangle can really wedge a twig or branch in there if it goes in the right way. I also like to not use the stock fpv camera mount instead removing it totally and using TPU camera holders from the standoffs, I think it looks much nicer aesthetically like that and it also seems to protect the camera a little better more inside the frame.

nice review JB! just a minor quibble for those who will fly this quad without an action camera up front, how do you establish proper CG? it seems the XT60 cable coming out mid-frame limits battery placement to the rear only. in line with this, the cable itself seems oddly short without any stress relief against battery ejection during a crash. cheers!

I don’t know why I think it’s over optimised to the point exaggerated. Resonance noise is bad but it doesn’t require super slowing filtering to develop it to this degree of a frame. Just an opinion

The V2 version of the AOS 5 does have space for the full air unit. There are mounting holes for three 30x30 stacks and just enough for the air unit in the back. I think the V1 was only able to fit the vista in the back.

On the last flight, when you took the master multiplyer up, where did you take it? 1,3? 1,4? 1,5? Because it had some (minor) oscillations so if it was at (say) 1,2 or 1,3 it could go a bit higher but that's not the case if you had it on 1,5...

As a few others have mentioned, the AOS V2 frame has a design flaw where the arm breaks at the thinnest part (where the braces meet). I've since retired my AOS V2 after breaking multiple arms. I've been flying the FPVCycle Prototype 5 frame and have had zero issues with durability.

I like this new frame. I basically fly only iflight frames, Nazgul5, evoque, cidora and chimera LR but I never had luck with their electronics unfortunately. I would like try the AOS5 with my stack of choice, HW 4in1 60a and FETTEC G4. Btw it doesn't look 16x16 mounting holes cause the vista is mounted in those holes in the back
